View Full Version : What about these players chances of WD from OZ Open...

Jan 12th, 2009, 01:44 AM
I checked out the top 100 or so in the rankings and worked out who hasn't played an event leading into the Oz Open or who has retired injured or sick in an event.

I references last weeks notes and netcords as well.

So We know who didn't enter:
Davenport 9now off rankings) Mattek and Perebynis
We know Sharapova WD and it is either implied or maybe I have missed the official notice regarding Na Li and Kat S WDing. The Herald Sun think Nadia has too which is funny since she is playing Alize C now

The witthdrawals from Bris-Vegas and Auckland and those theat aren't playing this week are:

No events this year for players that would have made a MD or QD(and no info as to a wd or straight out no entry) Bacsinzky- maybe no entry last week and a wd this week?
Kostanic H
Husarova (for doubles)

Belgian media report that Flipkins won;t play the qualies or maybe the OZ Open at all if she got into the main doraw

Players to have Withdrawn form matches in the last 2 weeks include:
Karin K
Roby Vinci
Dokic (says should be ok for Oz Open)
Jankovic (in melbourne so hopes to play)

Rightly or wrongly, the Oz media only really care and have mentioned Jankovic and Dokic from the above list (ok, also Amelieoh and also Petrova he he)

Does anyone have any news -maybe form there own country- in regards to the status of the player mentioned or indeed anyone else I may hve missed?

Thanks in advance

Azarenka withdraws from Sydney
Monday 12 January 2009

Victoria Azarenka has withdrawn from the Medibank International Sydney due to a viral illness.

The newly crowned Brisbane International champion informed tournament organisers of her decision today.

She has been replaced in the main draw by Karin Knapp of Italy, who will play wildcard Jarmila Gajdosova in the first round later today.

In women’s singles results, eighth seed Caroline Wozniacki has defeated Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova in convincing fashion 6-1 6-2 early on day two of the tournament.

Australia’s Casey Dellacqua hits centre court later this afternoon when she takes on Italian Sara Errani.
