There will be more of these thread. 'Heading into OZ' for these purposes, will be from October of last year. Yes, that's arbitrary, but some players so so little prep before OZ, you need some something else to measure. Judging readiness for a major based on one exo would be insane.

JELENA JANKOVIC

Was the best player on the tour. For a month.
T2 BEIJING .... R16 [39] WOZNIAK ........ W 6-3 7-5
T2 BEIJING .... QTR [13] HANTUCHOVA ..... W 7-5 6-1
T2 BEIJING .... SMI [09] ZVONAREVA ...... W 6-4 2-6 6-4
T2 BEIJING .... FNL [07] KUZNETSOVA ..... W 6-3 6-2
T2 STUTTGART .. R16 [34] BONDARENKO ..... W 6-2 6-0
T2 STUTTGART .. QTR [09] ZVONAREVA ...... W 7-6 7-6
T2 STUTTGART .. SMI [08] VENUS .......... W 6-7 7-5 6-2
T2 STUTTGART .. FNL [18] PETROVA ........ W 6-4 6-3
T1 MOSCOW ..... R16 [77] DUSHEVINA ...... W 6-7 6-3 6-2
T1 MOSCOW ..... QTR [18] PENNETTA ....... W 7-6 6-3
T1 MOSCOW ..... SMI [04] DEMENTIEVA ..... W 0-6 6-1 6-0
T1 MOSCOW ..... FNL [09] ZVONAREVA....... W 6-2 6-4
Then came the hiccup, we all thought, against Pennetta.
T2 ZURICH ..... R16 [17] PENNETTA ....... L 5-7 6-3 6-3
But her 2-2 YEC results were not what was expected.
TC QATAR ...... Rd1 [09] ZVONAREVA ...... L 2-6 6-3 6-4
TC QATAR ...... Rd1 [04] IVANOVIC ....... W 6-3 6-4
TC QATAR ...... Rd1 [07] KUZNETSOVA ..... W 7-6 6-4
TC QATAR ...... SMI [08] VENUS .......... L 6-2 2-6 6-3
And while Hong Kong is just an exo, going 0-2-1 can't be called adequate prep.
XO HONG KONG .. ... [08] VENUS .......... L
XO HONG KONG .. ... [08] ZVONAREVA ...... L
XO HONG KONG .. ... [08] ZHENG .......... w/o

She says she is adjusted to new muscle. But being sick, how can she train enough, between now and OZ, to make the adjustment. If she was playing the way she was in
October '08, you'd have to make her at least a 2nd tier favorite to win OZ. At least. But given her form, health, and lack of adjustment time, I just don't see her winning.

This year.

I'm pretty sure she's not sick at all.
She's hiding somewhere, trying to slim down.

In no sport does form from 3 months ago matter

In no sport does form from 3 months ago matterReally? Okay then answer me three questions.

Does Jankovic herself think her form of three months ago is irrelevant. After all, playing like that, she has a chance to win OZ. Playing the way she has since, no way.

Do any of Jankovic's potential opponents think her form of three months ago is irrelevant, given that she may regain it? After all, playing like that, she has a chance to win OZ. Playing the way she has since, no way.

Her form of three months ago may be indicative of her true potential. (In other words, yeah, I thought about that before I posted the thread.)

I guess she did that's why she decided she needed to bulk up, so she could stand toe to toe with the big hitters and not win by playing the brick wall role

Please a couple wins over Kuznetsova and Vera (and a cheap one over Vee) with depleted fields isnt amazing. Certainly doesnt make her the favorite :help: Again she like 1-4 vs top 5 PLAYERS disgusting for #1

Well, she would have potentially played Serena in Stuttgart, but US Open champion and the "true world #1" lost in the first round to Na Li...

Second round, my mistake.

Na didn't play Jelena, Serena did. Quit trying to throw the focus on something else:shrug:

So ur point is................................................ ......
Again so everyone is clear on me i aint no williams fan Jus ma queen :worship: but Serena won Miami, Charelston, bangalore, F of Wimbledon, and won the USO, pretty much any the of the above is better then JJ's entire career let alone Season.:tape:

I'm not trying to throw anything. My point is Na Li can beat anyone on any given day but also can lose to anyone. It was a bad loss but not a terrible one. Na Li basically owns the 'no.1' player. Shows her quality or 'no.1's lack of quality :spit: You quit trying to compare Serena to Jelena

Well, I think it's embarassing that the best player of her generation can lose to Na Li, that's all.

Yeah, she didn't play Vera. You got that wrong
Anyway, she might not be in best form, but you can never write her down. Who would have thought she would reach US Open final? Anything can happen, if she gets a nice draw and a good match practise... who knows

You can never take Jelena's "health" at face value. I think the players should just ignore her "sick" talk. Most likely she will get to the qrts and depending on who she plays to the semis or even final. She hasn't proven yet that she can play 3 top players in consecutive matches and win but this her big chance as the #1 seed.

LOL STRIP HER OF ALL HER TITLES AT ONCE :tape: :help: :weirdo:

Like all athletes are perfect all the time. At least she lost after sending out a bagel which shows she owns Na Li. Its not her fault Na seems to have some vendetta against the WS :scared:

WTF?. She never played Zvonareva in HK. :confused:My bad. Hard for me to find stats on an exo. But it's an exo. I understand it's just practice, but it's public practice. It's all we have to guage her form on.

And she DID win the three biggest tournament available in a row. You can argue all you want about the quality of the opponents, but winning three tournaments in a row doesn't happen often. Give credit where credit is due.

I think its gonna somewhat hinder JJ's performance at the AO, obviously not having played in any of the tourneys leading up to next week. i dont think she'll be able to peak and play the way she was playing last year at the AO or the terrific form she was in the last half of the season.

i dunno, i could be wrong but its gonna take some time for her to recovery and be match fit again. :shrugs:
