Such a match at the end. Tsveti was leading 6-2 5-1. Missed 5 MPs to get to the situation of 5-4 30-40. But she managed. Good win.

Now I will celebrate. :worship:

I was wondering why she was tanking and then she started to come back. I guess she thought how embarassing it would be to lose to Pironkova only winning three games. Whatever, she will at least 4R in Melbourne...no worries.

When hasn't it happened? I can't specifically at the moment (because I've had too much to drunk  ), but I want to say there was a match against Mary Pierce where she squandered a minimum of 12 match points.

World No.14 Patty Schnyder knocked out by unseeded Bulgarian
January 11, 2009

WORLD No.14 Patty Schnyder has made an inglorious first round exit from the Hobart tennis international, saying the tournament's officials are "a joke".

Unseeded Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova, 21, outplayed the surly second-seeded Swiss - once famous for a bizarre orange juice diet - 6-2 6-4.

Schnyder, 30, earned a code violation for unsportsmanlike behaviour late in the second set for audible obscenities uttered after a prolonged argument with the chair umpire over a line call.

It was one of several clashes with chair umpire Kerrilyn Kramer.

The veteran and player's representative for the Australian Open lead-up event in Hobart, pointedly avoided shaking Kramer's hand before complaining to reporters about the officiating and a slow court.

"The first (line call) was real(ly) a joke. I mean you can't miss that with glasses 5cm thick,'' the disgruntled former Hobart champion told reporters before stomping off to her hotel.

Pironkova, however, had no such concerns after her big serving game shocked Schnyder.

"I've only had two or three top 20 wins so it's a big win for me,'' said the world No.44.

Earlier on Sunday, Melbourne's Sally Peers received the harshest of welcomes to the WTA tour, losing 6-0 6-0 on her WTA debut to powerful Czech Petra Kvitova.

Kvitova beat Venus Williams last year and made the fourth round of the French Open.

"Now I know how hard they hit the ball,'' a philosophical Peers said after her 43-minute centre court appearance.

Sunday's other first round winners were Slovakian Magdalena Rybarikova, Czech Iveta Benesova, and Alona Bondarenko.

Early on in her career Schnyder said she drank three litres of orange juice a day after falling under the spell of a self-styled German therapist, Rainer Harnecker, who also became her lover.

Considering her last 3 matches in 2008 season, St Anton, and this one, I wouldn't predict that..
For now, anything but 1st or 2nd round exit would be a surprise for me
