View Full Version : Jankovic in doubt for Australian Open

Andreas
Jan 10th, 2009, 03:17 PM
"The Serbian world no. 1, Jelena Jankovic, is in doubt for the first Grand Slam of the year, Australian Open.

At an exhibition tournament in Hong Kong, Jankovic pulled out before a match against Zheng Jie of China. Thursday, a obviously tired and weak Jankovic in 2 sets to the American Venus Williams.

"I have been sick for a couple of days. I'm feeling really bad. It's hard to ssay if I will get ready for Australian Open. My immune system is totally down at the moment and I can't say how long it's going to be before I'm well again."

If Jelena Jankovic won't play at Australian Open, she might lose her spot as no. 1 in the women's rankings."

I think she will be okay, obviously she was upset that she couldn't bring up the game in Hong Kong, and that cold will go away, and she can play her way into a tournament like last year at the Australian Open in the first round! Remember Ivanovic played horrible in Hong Kong but went on to reach the final of the Aussie Open.

See you in Melbourne Jelena!

So if she does, she will most likely lose the #1?

Safina needs SF, and with good result at Sydnay SF will be also enough for Serena and Elena to overtake JJ. Even Venus have chances to reach #1 spot if JJ withdraws, but only if wins AO/09 title and runner-up is NOT Serena, Safina or Dementieva.

The flu is going to keep the number one from playing the first slam of the season? I don't think so. Serena had a cold during the AO 07 final - did she let it stop her? No way! I'm not even sure why someone would anticipate having the flu for more than a week!?

In short, the top 6 bar Ana :sad:Ana defending 1400 points from AO 2008 final and will not play in Sydnay so she will lose her 280pts from last season which means if Safina reach QF, Serena and Elena SF, and Venus final - Ana like AO 2009 champioon will drop for one place (from #5 to #6) ... but i will not complain

I'm not going to totally rip JJ, because I do believe she's sick with with flu as stated. However I find it amazing that she would think this will make her in doubt of the AO, knowing that she still has a week to recuperate.

Granted maybe she means more in terms of preparation/practice and not getting to do much prior to the tournament because of the toll the flu can take on the body. Still JJ don't make these kinds of announcement so far from the start of tournaments especially slams.

OR MAYBE
JJ is thinking if she wins the AO, she could hailed as MJ who played one night with the flu during the playoff and led the bulls to victory.

Yeah I know, I know. Anyway as much as she often say stuff like this, I'll cut her some slack this time. Of course I also know she will play so.

This is really bad luck for Jelena. She couldn't possibly have wanted this and it's the worst preparation she could have. Looks like entering Hong Kong and catching flu there instead of entering Sydney was a mistake.

Having said that - I'm sure she'll play at the AO - even if she hasn't fully recovered. I'd have thought she ought to be over the flu - but it's her preparation that concerns me.

Why the announcement? It's 9 or 8 days before she plays the AO. It's not 9 hours. Pathetic! :o

I guess her life-threatening virus has certain incubation period

Im sure before she plays and loses in the AO semis, she'll have reported contracted the Ebola virus. :o

If that's so, then she probably wanted to warn potential opponents in advance that she carries highly contagious life-threatening virus

Don't die, JJ! :crying2:

:haha:

Though, Ebola is highly mortal, so.... :o

It''s envy because their own favs pull out of tournaments at the drop of a hat - Let's see all their excuses last year: - too tired and then whining about being fined, got to go to the dentist, sulk after beaten 1st round and want to go surfing. It's hypocrisy and double srtandads when it comes to Jelena. But then again - it's hard for them to take it that Jelena is #1 above their favourite.

Injured or ill - Jelena does her damnest to be able to play in all tournaments she has entered - even when she should sometimes she should not play. She's not lying that she feels rotten when she's ill. And it's totally true when she says sometimes flu can last just 2 days but sometimes it can last 2 weeks which is why she said it put the AO at risk. Haven't the people calling her a liar ever had or known anyone with flu that does last longer?

We are lucky to be fans of a player who give so much.

It's basically a sad thing for the AO that we have Maria out, JJ at the moment ill but hopefully will have recovered in time for the AO - but without any match preparation, Ana still out of form.

But all the idiots and trolls seem to want to do is make fun of Jelena and call her a liar and faker.

Drama Queen

There was a girl I knew who always wanted to be the one to stand out from the crowd
Always believed that she was gonna live her dreams
That what when down was gonna come around
For all the doubters, non-believers, the cynicals that once were dreamers
One of these days you'll open up your eyes
And you'll realize

That girl was a one time teenage drama queen
A hyped up everyday wannabee
But she'll have changed her destiny
Now she's a somebody
That girl was a wild child dreamer but she found herself
'Cause she believes in nothin' else
And you'll look back and you won't believe
That girl was JJ

Armed with an attitude that she knows how to use
She's gonna get there any way she can
Now she knows what she wants
No one is gonna stop her
Nothing's ever gonna hold her down
For all the doubters, non-believers the cynicle that once were dreamers
One of these days you'll know that you were wrong (who would've know)

That girl was a one time teenage drama queen
A hyped up everyday wannabee
But she'll have changed her destiny
Now she's a somebody
That girl was a wild child dreamer but she found herself
'Cause she believes in nothin' else
And you'll look back and you won't believe
That girl was JJ

Life is a work of art- you gotta paint it colorful
Can make it anything you want
Don't have to stick to any rules
You don't need a high IQ to succeed in what you do
You just gotta have no doubt just believe in yourself

Doubters, non-believers, once were dreamers
One of these days you'll open up your eyes
And you'll realize

That girl was a one time teenage drama queen
A hyped up everyday wannabee

But they don't have a helicopter to take players to Court 18. :(Unfortunatly not at the moment, although the All England Club have noted JJ complaint and are looking into the matter. They may be able to offer the low budget alternative of having the firefighters carry JJ to her court in the future. I hope JJ doesn't get assigned to the new court No2 as that is further away still. Somehow I think she will have less of a problem with that.

Only, I believe most of them. She has no reason to lie. Maybe I'm just a blind fan. When she gets injured, she plays worse. She barely scrapes through. I know most people don't believe her, but..whatever. It's a combination of her never training hard before, competing at the top, style of play and body type, IMO. But, you know, she can always lie.
