Injured Dokic will make Open

Australian tennis draw card Jelena Dokic says the Achilles injury that has forced her out of the Hobart international should not stop her competing at the Australian Open.

Dokic was in Hobart to continue her preparations for this month's Melbourne Park grand slam after being granted a wildcard into qualifying.

Dokic, 25 said she strained her Achilles tendon training on Thursday afternoon and the precautionary decision to withdraw from the Hobart tournament was made on Friday.

The former world No.4 said the injury should not disrupt her Open preparations "too much".

"The Australian open is still 10 days away so I still have some time, which is good, and I should be all right," Dokic told reporters.

So she was actually training over in Hobart when she sustained the injury. I think this goes to show that Jelena is still serious about her comeback and just wants to give herself the best possible chance for Melbourne.

good to hear she'll be OK for the Open. Hope she can get a kind draw and win a match to make up for her lost Hobart points!

Precautionary withdrawal - she was in Hobart so im happy she actually intended on playing. :) train hard for Melbourne when the heel gets better!

She has mor egame in her pinkie than Chaky does in her whole game, a fit and fired up Jelena has much more potential in terms of beating big names IMO  just wait and see what 2009 will bring..

Are you serious? :o

Even a slumping Chacky should be good enough to stay at least 40-50 places higher in the rankings than "over-the-hill" Dokic :tape:

Good to know. :)

It would of been sad if she couldn't play after her hard work in the WC playoff.

Dokic is such an unrealistic girl, she thought she could be as good as she was ten years ago, but it turns out that she even has to struggle in such tournaments as ITF nowadays. She will disappear again after being kicked out in the first round in Aussie Open like we saw last year. Time is simply not on her side.:o:o

I hope she will be fit enough for AO because I really feel she can win a match or two there!

Hobart points fall off this week when Brisbane and Auckland points come on. She's still going to be in the top 200, I think around 180-190.

Around half the players in this draw are outside the top 60.
Maybe she'll have a good draw.

If she misses a seed she should get to the 3rd round no problem.

It's impossible to make the third round without playing a seed or someone who beat a seed in the first round.

Jelena won't lose in the first round unless she draws like a top ten player.

Good news. :D:D
Don't worry about her ranking dropping, worry about what's gonna happen after the AO. Her ranking will drop if she doesn't win a match in Melbourne BUT she has 3 months of nothing to defend following that. Those three months will be more important than the Australian summer this year, IMO.

She thinks because she took a sub-par Mauresmo to two tie-breakers, she has the right to pull out of tournaments.

I'm pretty sure she's FINE and she SHOULD'VE played at Hobart.

Either way, karma has its way of getting the best of people. I love Dokic but if she loses in the first round, I won't be too surprised anyway.
