View Full Version : Often used phrases by players

Just a random thread, because it's always amused me how some players have certain catchphrases or particular phrases that they use. For example, Ivanovic who seems to say 'Try and be aggressive'. She says that SO much, even in a Monica Seles tribute video she snuck it in:lol:

There was Justine with 'for sure' too. Anymore you can think of?

I was gonna say. :rolls:

One thing I've noticed with Serena over the years is that when she's sometimes asked a question by a reporter, she answers it with exactly the same content as the question before adding more to her answer.

Example: - Do you feel that you can play better?
- I definitely feel like I can play better...

(from a recent interview)
- Have you ever had a quirky streak like that?
- I've never had a quirky streak like that...

Random. Some may find it insignificant and stupid, but I just found it interesting.

You know, Jen, you know, used to, you know, say you know, after you know, everything she, you know, ever said. Justine, for sure, used to say for sure a lot back in the day, for sure. Not so much anymore!

That may well be coached. Repeating the question gives you a decent sound bite and helps you focus rather than go off on a tangent and say something than can be taken out of context--it's a CYA thing. Plus, since you reply in a complete sentence you come across as smarter when they play you back on SportsCenter where you rarely hear the question.

Now, my beloved Elena has a few phrases aside from "you know."

Somebody a while back did a hilarious phonetic spelling of her "Well, right nyow I yam yust so hyappy."

Another is "Dis iss true, you know."

And of course, "My mom, the one who has always been dere for me."

Also, please insert random giggles as needed.
