There were no signs of the illness, I watched her hit with Bammer today. She was serving well, returning well and striking the ball well. :) A picture, I'll post more later although they aren't very good. Right now I'm off to have a sleep :tape:

Draws are out for Sydney. Maria's quarter;

(7) PETROVA, Nadia RUS vs CORNET, Alize FRA
KIRILENKO, Maria RUS vs KLEYBANOVA, Alisa RUS
(WC) STARR, Emelyn AUS vs QUALIFIER
CIRSTEA, Sorana ROU vs (2) SAFINA, Dinara RUS

Very nice singles draw for Makiri, not as good for the doubles though.
She's playing with Agnieszka Radwanska against (2) Ruano Pascual/Medina Garrigues first up.

Good luck Ms. Kirilenko. :hearts:

After seeing the rest of the draw I think this is good a section for Maria (Safina hasn't looked red hot yet) if the good Maria plays I can see QF

Nikkiri
Jan 10th, 2009, 05:41 AM
Yeah Sydney is a very tough field so there are no easy sections this one looks alright, she could win a match or two.
Good luck :) I will be there cheering her on guys :p

Draw looks ok for her.

Just make Alisa run and if she's not making many UE's, then I believe Maria will take this one.

Brian4Canada
Jan 12th, 2009, 01:38 AM
Well looks like she is well on her way to losing another and in fairly convincing fashion. If you are serving 70% first serves in you should really being doing much better. I cant see the match so I dont know if she is playing passive or what but with about 70% you should really be following that serve in and winning points at net. Also double faulting on game points... not the way you want to start your year definitely a real confidence loser. She held serve 2-5 but it would take a miracle to come back at this stage but who knows.

The match is off my scoreboard now.

With 70% of her 1st serves in but only winning 58% of points on her 1st serve, Maria is either just spinning her serves in or serving poorly. :(

kirivanovic
Jan 12th, 2009, 01:58 AM
Same scenario in both sets, i don't know what happened but it seems that Maria's serve is still easy to break:help:

Maybe Kleybanova was on fire but i don't think so.Well,Nikkie will tell us what really happened:sobbing:

I don't know how she'll defend her points next week.Doubles' draw is awful,so she won't have a lot of confidence before Melbourne...

Jan 12th, 2009, 05:43 AM
Hey guys :sobbing:

Yeah she was lacking power today and she was a bit slow and sluggish. Kleybanova was just bashing everything to death  Maria wasn't able to deal with it. Maria seemed a bit intimidated by Kleybanova and I don't really blame her she was yelling at Maria's errors etc.

A bit more about todays match, while I am really upset she lost, honestly there was not much she could she couldn't handle the power and her own power was lacking but seeing how its her first match and she was sick last week I don't think its anything to worry about yet, she just needs more matches. Needs a good draw in Melbourne.

Thanks, and also for the other report.

 Maria. Not being able to handle the power worries me though because 90% of the tour are power hitters now. :scared:
But seeing as she's coming off an illness and what not, I guess it's not too bad a loss. At least she still has doubles to get some match play.

4th round points to defend in Melbourne though. :scared:

I hope you're right and that it's just one match.
Mostly Maria can handle some power. She should be way shorter than Alisa. Hopefully Maria is 100% for Melbourne and win some matches there. At least a 3rd round.
Best draw would be playing Ana but I better can't wish for that.

Did it really look Maria isn't 100% yet or would you more say it was a bad day?

Nikkiri
Jan 12th, 2009, 07:25 PM
I would say she's not sick anymore but she is feeling the effects of last week, it probably took a lot out of her. She was very weak hitting balls in the middle of the court a lot of the time, her serves had nothing on them really also she hit a few smashes which weren't good enough either. I really do believe this is just from her being sick last week and with more matches she will have some power back.

kirivanovic
Jan 12th, 2009, 07:45 PM
Thanks for the report;)!

Let's hope that she'll be able to play her game with all her power then. That's difficult to recover from a serious virus especially when the weather is quite hot.

A decent draw next week wouldn't be so bad:help:

Maria was a totally different player today, much more relaxed, she played amazing. Before the match started Maria was talking with Aga and laughing a lot, they seem to get along well. Maria was the best player on the court today, shes an amazing doubles player one day with the right partner I could see her winning a GS. :p

Too bad it's just doubles now.
Great run with Igor at Wimbledon. Almost beat Black/Huber in Zurich.
And now a great win as well.
I rather see her doing it in singles. At least a good thing is that she seems to have some form back. But I'm really unsure if that says something about Melbourne.

No I think it was equal  on the last MP Maria hit it out, she let out a huge scream but then laughed it off :p Maria played really well in the doubles and not so well in singles so I dunno its hard to tell. I liked Maria and Aga they are funny together during the last game to decide who would recieve at 40-40 they played rock-paper-scissors

I also got Maria's autograph today :D
