View Full Version : Who do you WANT Sharapova to draw in AO 4th Round?

Who do you want her to draw??
For me the best for her would be slumping Sveta or Jankovic, since she has a great record against her... Also Zvonareva could be a possibilty! But the rest, is better for Maria to avoid them!

dosen't the #9 seed face either 5 6 7 or #8 seeds, not 1 2 3 4 or as thats numbers 13-16 they face in the 4th round?

im like 99% sure in the 4th round, 1-4 seeds play 13-16, 5-8 play 9-12 seeds, unless they've changed the rules, so maria will draw either ana, vera, venus or sveta in the 4th round.

Venus. I voted Serena but that's because I wasn't thinking. Venus needs to improve her H2H against Sharapova on HC.

Even though they say the draw is randomly done, I have a feeling it will be Venus in the fourth round or the quarter finals. Personally I would like to see Venus play Maria for the Head to Head.

it is maria versus her shoulder. it does not matter who she plays.
if she survives but loses, it is still a victory. if she survives
and is playing like maria---she is going to be dangerous, no matter who she faces.

Maria at #9 can only play 5-8. So, Ana, Venus, Vera, Sveta. I'd like to see Venus so Venus can finally get a hardcourt victory over Maria. :)

I guess a rematch of the Australian Open final would be nice, so I voted for Ana!I agree. After so long pause, Maria will be better and better after every next match, and after 3 easy opponents she will be most vulnerable in Round 4 against first very good opponent. This eventual win will be very good for Ana confidence.

Of course that Ivanovic will be favorite in this season AO eventual last season final rematch showdown.

Everything is not about stats, duh.

Serena is a monster, she's a category on her own.
Mauresmo was on her way up since she won the YEC the previous year.
Ana is in a slump for ages. Actually the last she played sensational was in the latest two rounds in RG.

Actually the last she played sensational was in the latest two rounds in RG.My question about some example of tennis player which coming at some slam without competetive or EXO match more than 150 days before that GS but still make some decent result (SF for example) is nothing about stats - its question more related to medicine, physiology... or you think that Maria and her body is unique medical phenom?

Maria not played 2008 warm-up tournament... just HK exo where lose against Venus. Other 2008 finalist Ana lose all three exo matches before AO (Szavay, Dementieva, Peng) and than lose Sydnay SF. Semifinalist Jankovic lose couple matches at Hopman Cup and week after lose QF at Sydnay against unseeded player and other 2008 AO semifinalist Hantuchova lose R16 match in Sydnay/08 vs unseeded player. So only last season at least 3 of 4 AO 2008 semifinalists coming to Melbourne with bad HK/HC/Sydnay results... and i ask you to give me example of 3 WTA (or ATP) players of last 444 GS Semifinalists which have 100+ days pause before that slam (give me one actually).

why would people want sveta anywhere BEFORE a final  the last time they played in IW during Maria's great run last year she lost to sveta  it's not a final and it's not YEC so any match that they play i will favour sveta over maria

Well, I remember about that match, Maria was totally OFF, so many UE, even Kuz said Maria played crap, and didn't play like she used to. Anyway, Kuz never beat Maria during BIG meetings(YEC and Slams) and when Maria is healthy, I guess that's why people want Sveta.
But I agree with u, if Maria is not fully healthy, I won't choose Sveta cause she can beat her when Maria is not totally healthy, I'd choose Dementieva, Vera, or Ana.

Miami is a big final and yes Maria was healthy then

As for AO this year, Maria will be lucky to even get to the fourth round. And should she ran into to player of Dementieva's or Sveta's calibre, it will be probably "Game over" for her...

problem for players is that sveta is usually only mentally challenged after a certain point in tournies...usually SF/F...anytime before she's really tough...so for some players like say serena and venus, it's always best to take them out before a SF/F, for sveta you usually can't take her out until then...and it's not like she is ever a mental midget vs maria as is evident by the 4-all h-2-h so i dunno why fans would want her to play sveta if you want her to win
