Just saw the end of the match and Chaky was her usual bitchy self.
Nice to have Mirza back and I hope she can stay injury free for a while.

my bitch is back!

first the forehand is smoother, she spanked a lot of winners of it, backhand still flat as a pancake but she has control of it. she is sliding and throwing in the odd slice, see if she keeps doing that. serve is my one problem i just dont like her going all out on every 1st serve, then it leads to lots of df's as shes constantly hitting 2nd serves, which is just a slower version of the 1st.

chak the bitch: pushed the camera mans camera away on the change of ends, had a go at the umpire at the end for not controling the crowd, got her supporters to cheer on mirzas mistakes as they were doing it to hers and was generaly mood and very abrupt when talking to the on court interviewer at the end

Unfortunate that Anna let the crowd annoy her at the end of the match there, but then again she does have a pretty short fuse at the best of times, poor thing.

Anyway... pretty good performance for Anna, despite the serving difficulties, she was hitting the ball pretty well for most of the match. I'd still like to see her scale back slightly on the aggression off the ground, but it does produce a lot of winners given slight build and relatively short frame mixed in with the strange errors. Maybe in 2009 she can find the balance that was completely deserting her through most of last year.

Great to see Mirza back on court, and the good news was how fit she looked and that her serve and forehand seemed promising after the wrist horrors. Hope she can get herself back to good form this year and give her fans something to cheer about.

how was sania playing?

Given that Anna is a sort of nemesis player for Sania judging from their prior encounters, I'd say that Mirza was pretty decent today. She isn't on top of her game (which is not surprising given her time out) but I was impressed that she looks in good shape and doesn't seem to have had to cut back or modify majorly on first serve and forehand. Her second serve is still problematic and she's never going to be the fastest player around the court, but surely she will improve as she gets back to competetive play. If I were a Sania fan, I would be encouraged more than discouraged, especially as Anna was definitely playing better than at the end of last year.

i think her tennis is back. i loved her backhands :hearts:
as always, she needs a better first serve and to make less UE.
but it is really a good first match. I really thought she would be destroyed.
anna played well and looked cute in her fila outfit.

i just saw the last 3 games but i have a feeling Mirza will be back to her best. She made some errors otherwise it could have gone into a decider. good thing that Mirza looks fit and strong.

I thought it was sort of a boring match. It wasn't bad but I'd say it was just ok. Chakvetadze seemed agitated early on, she did seem to be hitting harder, she was really outmanouvering Mirza. Sania played well, still maybe too many unforced errors but not bad performance. She still needs work on the serve she doesn't use her legs really at all.

Anna is hilarious.

She did told the interviewer that she felt asleep during the second set.
Sometimes she looked like she wished she had been everywhere but here.

I never thought i would say this about a player but i wish she was a lil less trying to hit winners.

Sania.:worship: :inlove:
Awesome to have her back and it was a pretty decent performance after such a long absence from the tour.

At first i thought she was a lil too passive with her forehand but she actually did good with it as the match progressed.

Her backhand has been pretty solid as well which is cool, because a lot of the girls will want to hit the ball there all match long.

Good luck to both in 2009.:hearts:

i have to say sania did look 10 pounds lighter than last time i saw her before the injury, which is surely a good sign. i thought she may have put on a bit of weight but shes lost some.

Over-rated Mirza got totally outplayed, and her classless supporters in the stands :weirdo: cheering on opponent's errors and calling serves out.

A year ago she felt she went into the AO unprepared, because of the robbery.
Now she had a normal offseason. And if she can get a few decent draws, we might see a continuation of the 2007 ACHAK

AnnaC will always be difficult to beat because she actually knows how to win against Mirza. now leads 5-0 against Sania. Sania was 40-15 on Anna serve too many times but could not break.:smash:

It's an exo and there were a lot of Indians in the stands. Not a big deal.
Some (including Chaky) took this a bit too seriously imo.

well its not fun to go through a whole match with people cheering your errors, its a build up effect and im not suprised anna got annoyed at the end. lets face it you have to be a bit sad to go to an exo and cheer on a players mistakes.

I was there live for the whole match. :)

First I don't know why anyone should complain about Anna being bitchy or anything because she wasn't. Sania's fans were almost as crazy as the Israeli crowd. They told her "you want another double fault" and when she hit an ace they went "no more" and were just booing all the time. So Chak Attack arrived :hearts: and I wouldn't say it got to her, she decided to go for broke instead and hit so many winners. And the interview was hilarious: "I felt asleep during the second set and it could have been three sets but luckily those guys over there woke me up. Thanks guys!" :worship:

Second I don't think Anna is playing very well at all right now. She played two really good games, the first game of the match when she hit four clean winners and Mirza hit an ace, and also at 4-4 in the second when Chak Attack turned on. Other than that, it was too many DFs (I think it was 7 or 8 at least) and way too many unforced errors for my liking. She was going for winners when she shouldn't have, but overall it was better than some of her errorfests from last year.

Third Sania played OK for someone coming back from injury; she was still pretty predictable in placing the ball, going to open court all the time and went for broke way too often. But she has still retained her power and the first serve wasn't bad at all but there were some wild errors, such as when she was up 40-15 at 4-4 in the 1st and missed an easy ball.

Fourth the crowd were telling the rowdy Indian fans to keep quiet at the end of the match as it was cold and late and everyone wanted Anna to win so they could go home.

Overall an OK match.

Hard luck Sania, but it's nice to have you back :yeah:

I hardly think this indicates Chakvetadze is back to some kind of form though, as many people on this thread are saying. Sania has been out of action for almost 5 months, I expected Anna to deliver a beatdown to Sania if I'm honest (a player who she owns in H2H), but a 6-4, 6-4 scoreline suggests otherwise. And by the sound of things, Anna was a grumpy bitch on court too. Anna is not good when shes in a bad mood. She tends to rush through the points and become far to erratic (2008 USO is a perfect example of this).

Anna C has always been a nightmare for Sania!

Seems like a decent performance for a first match
I just wish Anna would be a little more conservative and consistent with her game rather than going for broke on each shot!!

well chak hit a good 10 more winners than errors, the only thing that let her down was her serve, if she had served even ok it would have been 6-2, 6-2 but the 7df's and numerous 2nd serves hurt her. off the ground she was better than 90% of her year last year.

Even if it's only an exhibition, it's nice to hear that Anna has found some kind of form. It was awful seeing her last year just completely implode and capitulate in so many matches. That match against Kirilenko for example at the Aussie was just:o

I wish her luck for the upcoming '09 season:)

If Sania converted even half of her zillion bps instead of making ue after ue she would win in str8.

btw those stats at the end were not right. They both made a lot more UEs.

Well if Sania served better she would win the match. Oh wait why are we talking about IF?

And please, Chakvetadze hit like 23 or 24 winners compared with 9 or 10 produced by Mirza, it was probably one of the reasons Sania didn't convert those bps. Oh if Chakvetadze did hit fewer winners she would lose in str8 too, IF.

But yeah it's not a pretty match.

Didn't see the match but sounds very encouraging, for both players actually. I'll still be more interested to see Anna when she's in a competitive match not an exo.

So she's changed to Wilson. She was one of Fischer's highest profile players. Wonder if she defected or they dropped her?

Good job Anna :) Hopefully she can get some points at the Aussie Open and I guess win Hobart because I don't want her dropping down the ranks anymore.
I want her old game back though, not just her hitting winners all the time. Better than nothing I guess.

Good comeback Sania, should be back to her level in no time.

Anna hit more winners because Mirza was very slow. Her movement was poor and almost all wrong footingshots were winners.
