Yes, i think so. Or maybe the ranking the week before the tournament.
But i'm sure it isn't based on the entry list.

tough first round for alize.Petrova is former top10 player with much of consistency.
Tough considering the way alize got beaten by safina in perth:help:
hopefully her "new" backhand wont let her down again:silly:

alize def nadia petrova 6-2 6-4:dance:

I was a little bit choked about the score,I expected a tougher match there but petrova couldnt train properly because of her illness she had so it can explain the score.
But soooo happy for Alize, great win for her:D
well some posters said that she was complaining about the sun bothering her serve, yes she made 10 DF but its useless to complain alize since the sun is here, she has to deal with it.
That's summer in Australia.:p

Next round--> Alisa Kleybanova (RUS)who beat Kirilenko 6-2 6-2, watch out alize, she will be in confidence but ALLEZ ALIZE!:bounce:

Thanks for your report louisa:kiss::wavey:

well apparently alize was nervous during that match, this is her reaction from the wtatour.com

Cornet, who dispatched Petrova 62 64, appeared to be on course for an even more comprehensive win over the Russian, who went down with viral meningitis during the off-season. But as Cornet was reminded, Petrova isn't a former world No.3 for nothing: "I was a bit nervous at the end of my match," the almost-19-year-old admitted. "I was 62 51 up, and then I think I just started hoping she would give me the end of the match. But no, she's 11 in the world and it's not like that. I still don't know how I won the last game."

the match could have turned up in petrova way but she managed to win that last game on a petrova UE.:drink:

Alize def Alisa Kleybanova 7-6 6-1:yeah:

expected win from alize, wining the first tie break of the year must have given her some confidence here. She doesnt have a good ratio in tie breaks so that's positive she begin the year by winning one:angel:
well the stats in her serve are still:help: 8 DF but she hit also 6 aces.

She faced 11 BP and saved 8 of them. 73% of them.

It seems it was a solid match but she will need to play muuuuch better cause her next russian opponent is dinara safina who crashed who let just 6 games to her previous opponents:help:
alize lost 3 and 2 at Perth.

Lets see if she learnt from that loss.Anyway ALLEZ ALIZE!

some "bad news" about alize.

Apparently she feels some little pain in her shoulder, she said she thought to retire from the tournament but finally played that first round against petrova. She said she doesnt know how she managed to win that match.
This could also explain all her DF.
Well she should be cautious, sydney is not important in front of the AO.
Hopefully she will be ok there, safina hits the ball very hard:unsure:

courage alize!

améliemomo
Jan 14th, 2009, 10:40 AM
Well yes.She didnt win.I dont have the match statistics so I cant tell really what was wrong for alize in that match.

I just read that she was struggling with the heat, much more than dinara was but she can be satisfied about her tournament , she played 3 matchs there.
She needs some rest now before the AO, make disappear her shoulder pain and especially try to get used to the "deadly Australian summer Heat!":scared::lol:

she will gain some points from sydney but dont know how many but not that important for the AO, she probably be the 16 or 15 th seed, so not that important.:)

amémomo- je suis pas une fille..mdr.

Alizé played quite well today, still too many double faults even though she has been working on being more aggressive on the first and second serves, she still needs to improve them.
The first set was pretty normal Alizé, she was comfortable and Koryttseva makes a lot of errors, and only seemed to play well when she was down and had no chance to win and really flattened out her shots. Alizé also did well when she was forced to come into the net, but I still think she should try and come in more on her own, a bit like Mauresmo or Hénin. The second set was good in the beginning for Alizé but Maria really flattened out her strokes and started hitting the ball a lot harder but it didn't last long and Alizé closed it out, it's great to see she was on a show court and the crowd was really with her :D

Finally it's a proper match. Now that Alize has a break in the second set (after surviving that crucial 15-40 at 0-1) Safina will begin to lose a bit of confidence. Before that... it was a massacre.

Alizé led 5*-2 in the third set and had two match points at 5-4. :bigcry:

Alize up 5-2 3rd set, Safina basically went into push mode hitting safe shots down the center of the court and forcing Alize to come up with winners in order to win the match. Alize could not deliver, kept missing and giving errors as Safina ran off 5 straight games. I`ve never seen Mary Carillo so happy....lol

omg alize, still cant believe she didnt win that match:bigcry::rain::hysteric::sobbing:

having these 2 match points at 5-4 and couldnt convert one of them. She said in interview that at this moment she already thought about the win and a qualification to her first quarter final and this caused her fall.
Well safina is used of that kind of dramatic matchs, she already did the same thing to top players such as sharapova or dementieva who are much more experienced than alize.
She had to go for her shots and try something different at 40-15 but she is learning:.
She played mixte doubles after that loss and still managed to win so the girl is showing how courageous and great competitor she is.
Even with a painful shoulder, she fights and searching for the win.
Respect for that cause many others would be in their hotel, pulled out and let down her partner but not her.

She will learn from the tough loss she experienced today, she'll come back and I hope for those who were saying she was just a "claycourt specialist", she proved them she could also have good results on hard court.

Allez Alize, go and win the Mixte double with Melo!:)

Poor Alize :( That was so hard to watch when she got down on her hands and knees and curled up into the fetal position, and you could see her chest going up and down with her heavy beathing. I could just tell that she wasn't going to be able to close it out.

As explained in Marion's thread, Alizé decided to pull out due to her painful right shoulder. So she joined her boyfriend in Phoenix, Arizona. And next monday, she'll have a medical exam in Paris before a decision concerning fed cup.

So, it means more news next monday.

Hopefully she'll be ready and healthy for fed cup:hug:

thanks for the infosNobody knows, even Escudé. And that's why he decided to choose an alternative player with Cohen-Aloro.

The only thing I know is that Alizé was about to play versus Dinara "sous infiltration" due to pain. She said that, but I don't know if she really did it.

Now, she's with Constantin, her boyfriend, for some days.
