I was hoping it would go to Ellen Barry, she's got a wonderful game, I've seen her play heaps of times and to top it off she's a Christchurch girl. It was nothing against Kai or anyone else for that matter :ras:

Well I hadn't said anything about Ellen Barry and we weren't even talking about funding from Tennis NZ (or whatever the governing body is called there), so I still don't see the reason to bad rep. :ras: :p

Well hopefully Marina can win 1 round at least...but I guess her ranking's gonna drop a bit after Auckland. :(

Quallies draw is not good for any, but obviouslt Caro or Pavly would be worst to get.

She's defending SO many points in the next 4 months its rediculous, she really need a good draw at the Aussie Open to stay in the top 100 - can't see her cracking the top 50 til the second half of the year (shes defending bugger all then)

Yea Caro seems friendly enough in the interviews, plus she seems to have a very natural game which is great to see :)

I'd love Nicole to win here, would give her strong incentives to return next year :)

Hehe, well Di has been absolutely dominating the NZMT series - won all 5 events!

Hmm well yeah if Marina can have a good run at the AO it's help, coz she lost 1st r quallies last year, so she has nothing to defend there at least. I mean maybe she can at least stay top 100 then even with other points coming off.

 If Nic gets her shit together and gets back up the rankings and also wants to come back next year there will be too many top players wanting to play.

Has Berry recovered from her injury? That was tough, as she was playing fairly well when it happened, and she's been gone a long time.

Date Krumm vs. Craybas has to rank as one of the top matches with old players. I wonder if there is a stat for the oldest competitor match on the tour?

She lost to the great Jelena Dokic in VERY controversial circumstances (remember my thread hehe). Just one win there should be enough to keep her in top 100 til at least May. Saying that if she loses in round 1 - OHHHHH c***!

The hospitality here is stunning, she'll hopefully come back :)

Plus she's already spent an afternoon looking at all the talent on the beaches - thats gotta be an incentive to return :lick:

Yeah I know. I was really hoping Marina would win that match. i can;t believe they played in that heat though. I don;t believe I saw your thread, but I was hanging around for that match but there were no matches I wanted to see, and it was like 45 degrees so i went home to the aircon. ;)

Yah I know - I was in Auckland last year. Pity I can't come this time, coz the people working at the tourney were really nice! Especially Ms Kyle who was running player transport last year. :D She even smsed me the scores from Misa's 1st r match when I had to leave half way through to go home!

It's simply NOT GOOD FOR THE PLAYERS to play in temperatures above 40 degrees. I think they've changed the rules now, so if it exceeds something like 39 then all play on all courts (except with air con) are suspended. A good decision, just a year too late.

Yea, they have a pretty good reputation :) They've had to deal with some pretty weird requests over the years from players and have handled them perfectly. These range from visiting a kids zoo, to Bungy Jumping, to eating their native food (bloody russians :p).

We have heaps of talent on our beaches, and when I take my shirt off just gets hotter and hotter

I know - I honestly could not believe they were making the players start matches. I was sure they would stop all matches. It was too much for me sitting in the shade - how the hell the players played I do not know. :help: I was sure some would end up in hospital.

Sure, but it's happened quite a few times before last year that players go to hospital for a drip because they are dehydrated. It's happened to Schnyder a couple of times over the years too.

Yes, and I'm sure all the NZ staff are glad she's playing Brisbane this year. ;) Coz I guess if she entered NZ and made it then they can't refuse her to play.

 Players shouldn't have to go through that (yes I know how uncomfortable drips are!!!)

Absolutely right, according to WTA rules the ASB Classic Tournament Directors have no right to prevent or hinder (? I guess it means try to stop them) a player playing in a WTA tournament. It does have its purpose though, I mean this stops countries with retarded dictators (Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria among many others) from hosting top level tournaments.

the tournament's website posts this main draw at this moment:

(1)Elena Dementieva(RUS)
?
Yung-Jan Chang(TPE)
Nuria Llagostera Vives(ESP)

Marina Erakovic(NZL)
Virginie Razzano(FRA)
Barbora Zahlavova Strycova(CZE)
Petra Cetkovska(CZE)

(5)Shahar Peer(ISR)
(3)Anabel Medina Garrigues(ESP)
Mara Santangelo(ITA)
Klara Zakopalova(CZE)

Edina Gallovits(Rou)
Aravane Rezai(
(WC)Eleni Daniilidou(GRE)
Qualifier

(7)Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova(RUS)
(8)Carla Suarez Navarro(ESP)
Nathalie Dechy(FRA)
Anne Keothavong(ESP)

(WC)Mirjana Lucic
Qualifier
Marta Rybarikova(SVK)
(4)Aleksandra Wozniak(CAN)

and then suddenly the last eight as published in the starting post of this thread, all the way to Wozniacki (2)

So no Domachowska, but a newcomer interestingly named "?", and some seeds (Peer vs. Medina, Pavlyuchenkova vs Suarez) paired in R1 already! OTOH, their order of play has Peer playing Cetkovska today. What a mess.
