Alize as the 16 in the world, and new french n°1 player will be one of the main force of the french fed cup team for 2009.
Its a competition she wants to win and really looking for to play at 100%.
The first news is that the new fed cup captain will be former top player nicolas escudé.Its the players choice.
I find it very good for such a young player as alize, he would give her all his experience of big matchs.
Happy for the team and for alize.I dont think amelie will participate next year since she wants to focus on slams.Maybe Marion Bartoli will finally participate again.First match will be against Italy in Orleans (February)

interview of the fed cup captain, nicolas escude:

"Great ambitions"

The new captain of the French team know of his baptism
Orleans fire against Italy, on 7 and 8 February. But cautious
resolutely confident Nicolas Escudé placed on the spirit of group
achieve great performance in Fed Cup. As it announced
clearly, the goal is not only to beat the Transalpine,
but "to go after."
- "Nicolas, what players you have selected to meet France - Italy
counting for the first round of the Fed Cup in 2009?
- Let's start with five players: Alize Cornet, Amélie Mauresmo, Nathalie Dechy,
Severine Bremond and Stephanie Cohen-Aloro, as a fifth player. I made the point with
each. I stopped these five names Based on what I saw in Melbourne and
since the beginning of the season.
- What did you think of the performance of your players in Australia?
- The results are quite good. We would have liked one of those players either
second week in Melbourne. Nevertheless, Alizé (Cornet) has played pretty well in Perth and
Melbourne. Amelie (Mauresmo) appears to have regained some of his tennis, although this
does not yet at the level of earnings for the moment. However, from what
I could see, tennistique his behavior and his attitude on the court are very interesting.
Nathalie (Dechy) obtained excellent results in two, a little less straightforward. It was a
little trickier to Séverine (Brémond) and Stephanie (Cohen-Aloro).
- Finally, is it frustrating not being able to count on the French
performance at the Australian Open, Marion Bartoli in this case?
- Yes, of course. If Marion could integrate this group a day, the French team will
be enhanced. But today, it is hardly possible. I talked to
several times with his father Walter and with it, especially after his victory over Jankovic in
Melbourne. I repeated the point with them and, for now, the return of Marion is absolutely
no news, which is necessarily harmful.
- Do you feel that the situation is irretrievable?
- It is blocked on the first round against Italy. But I think this might change, and I
hope favorably.
- Do you think the Fed Cup this season, a priority for your
players, including Amélie Mauresmo has already won this event?
- Last year, Amélie does not necessarily put the Fed Cup at the top of its priorities.
But from the discussions I had with it after my appointment, I feel that
disputer concerned for the entire campaign this season and try to do great things.
I told all the players that I had to go after, not only to beat
Italians and stop after the turn. I want to go as far as possible.
- Alize Cornet seems to suffer from the shoulder. Do you have news about it?
- I was not fresh news. But it is true that his shoulder rather painful
bothering her a little. I discussed it with her. It happens to manage it well for the moment, but
also the reason why I selected five players to overcome any physical pips.
I do not want to take risks in leaving only four players.
- The double was often the weakest link in the French team in recent
years. How do you overcome them?
- The girls have recently lost a lot of meetings because of the double. The speech I give
is to be able to keep competing in the tournament up to double and if possible together,
try to find automatismes. They have not played together since the beginning of the season,
but I tried to make them aware that this was yet capital. And on the
preparation than we do on this meeting, emphasis will be placed on the double is
sure.
- Do you intend to form a new pair specific?
- Today, "Nath" Dechy like the pillar twice. Then I will see the beginning of
stage which team will be most effective. It is true that I very much
on "Nath" twice and I'll see what I can bring players to his side to be
pair the winner.
- How do you see the face to Italy?
- Force complicated. In 2006 and 2007, girls have lost against the Italians. It does
not be easy, far from it. You do not like, but it is confident the knife between
teeth, and with big ambitions.
- What will be the key to meeting?
- All points will be important. I do not want to say that it will play on the number
1, the number 2 or double. We have seen in recent years, the double was more than capital
and, unfortunately, often lost girls. But what will count above all, it will be
the spirit, the team. We should be aware that we are much stronger when
we're all together and when you go all in the same direction. My speech will be
focusing on that.
- Will it have a stage of preparation?
- Yes, we have an appointment on Sunday, February 1st in Paris. We will therefore start by
train at Roland Garros. Then, on Tuesday afternoon (February 3), it will be on hand to
Orleans. "

finally some official news about her shoulder:)

[Alizé Cornet in point would be to try to lead the Blue to victory against Italy. (L'Equipe)]
http://www.lequipe.fr/Xml/Tennis/Titres/Media/050209_cornet_cr.jpg

The small remaining concern about the state of the right shoulder of Alizé Cornet is lifted and the player looks confident confrontation against Italy this weekend in Orleans. Si elle reste ménagée lors des entraînements sur certaines phases de jeu, la douleur qui la gęnait ŕ Melbourne a disparu. If left aside during training on certain phases of the game, the pain that hindered Melbourne disappeared. Beside her in the French team led by Nicolas Escudé are Amélie Mauresmo, Nathalie Dechy, Severine Bremond and Stephanie Cohen-Aloro.

"So far so good. I do not have the right to serve or smash do to preserve my shoulder. Anyway I am not in lack of service, I have confidence in this time so it's not a problem. All that is being restored, I feel pretty good and the back of the court I did a lot so I think it will be well this weekend. In any case, I hope, "has given Cornet, in Orleans, is pleased to return to Fed Cup. Captain Nicolas Escudé was also relief, "This pain in the shoulder was a concern but for now there are no more. Alizé behaves very well on the court. There is no pain, but it we still protect her. "

But the player also had to manage the adjustment to a change of surface and time difference. "The return to the indoor is always a bit tricky. I suffered a little jet lag, because after the Australian Open I'm part four days in the USA. So I just circled the world in a week! Once I get used gradually, I put myself in it. And finally I do train not too bad even with the time difference so it's rather reassuring. » And rest assured it will be necessary to dominate the team led by Italian Flavia Pennetta. If France leads 6-2 in the balance of confrontation, Italy is still two victories away in 2006 and 2007. two victories Obtained on clay.

It's over. 2 and 2. She was hardly winning anything behind her first serve. The livestream is so far behind, I'm still watching Alize about 2 games away from losing. I guess the pressure of 0-2 was a bit much. And Pennetta is a good player too, but still... I would have thought, close 3 sets or something.

I can't wait for Alize to get some big fed cup wins, after all these tough losses, she's going to be pretty emotional when she finally wins. Especially if it's a big win.

So many ues and far far behind the baseline.WTF Alizé?:(
but well Im just pissed right now, losing once again to the italians, its just:sobbing::explode::shout:
she was so tense there, still very young, she must have felt some pressure or dont know what but she must be so disappointed right now.

She didnt show her real tennis there, like the day she faced jankovic in Rome finale last year.
She needs to be more experienced and take some lesson from that loss.

she needs to fight the evil with the evil, its a french modjo we use to say and means that it will be sooooo hard for her to play this fed cup tie but she has to force herself to go there with the RAGE of changing things up. I hope she'll have that RAGE.

I hope the REAL alize will show up in Limoges and that she'll fight hard against slovakians who gonna be tough to play.

here an interview of the french fed cup captain Nicolas Escudé. As expected Alize is called to be member of this team.

An interview from him:

Nicolas Escudé:''It is the knife between his teeth''
On 15/04/09 at 12:21

After the failure of the first round against Italy, Nicolas Escudé, the captain of the French Fed Cup, drew Alize Cornet, Nathalie Dechy, Mathilde Johansson, and Amélie Mauresmo and Pauline Parmentier in replacement. Their goal: to beat Slovakia to Limoges 25 and April 26 to remain in the global group. Interview.

- Nicolas, what players have you chosen for this dam game against Slovakia?
- We will start with five players, namely: Alize Cornet, Amélie Mauresmo, Nathalie Dechy, Mathilde Johansson and Pauline Parmentier. Today, who is replaced, which is not, is not too valuable. We'll see over the preparation and approach of the meeting.

"Alizé, Amélie, Nathalie, the pillars of the team"

- Comment us this selection?
- Alizé Cornet, Amélie Mauresmo and Nathalie Dechy are the mainstays of the team, especially on a match of the dam and on a surface like clay. Although this is the indoor clay court, which speeds up the game a little, it's the best surface Alize Cornet. Amélie Mauresmo, it is indisputable because of its experience and the aura can have within the team. This also applies to Nathalie Dechy, through its experience and its quality of double player. Mathilde Johansson regard, it is a first selection for her, even though it will not necessarily part of the four players selected. She managed a good performance since the beginning of the season, faced with large-caliber players. It has not always won these games then, but it is rarely passed along. Finally, Pauline Parmentier has little experience in Fed Cup, but it has its place in the team, his game and by the choice of surface. What is certain is that on a match of dams, it will not have to procrastinate, but aim to win at all costs to stay in the global group.

- Virginie Razzano is missing from your selection. Is this for personal reasons, as was the case in the first round?
- It's like the last time, yes. Virginie is in trouble at this time on a personal level. I took the initiative and the choice not to select her, knowing it would have had to reject the selection. I did not want to penalize her for the future.

"The Fed Cup has nothing to do with the circuit"

- What do you thought about the first part of season of the French players?
- It had started well, with good results on the Australian tour. Then, it was not very good for us to pin Orleans in the first round of the Fed Cup against Italy. But I said at the time that the score (5 / 0) does not necessarily reflect the face of the weekend, especially given the first two singles on Saturday, as the trend could easily be reversed in our favor. Then, in turn, Amélie Mauresmo has done her best tennis at Coubertin at the Open GDF Suez. Since the results are slightly worse, at least on the American tour and the beginning of the season on clay. But overall the results are not too, too bad.

- The poor performance of French on clay in Barcelona they worry you a bit?
- No, it does not worry unduly. Because the Fed Cup has nothing to do with what can happen throughout the year on the circuit. Inevitably, when we arrived on a meeting of Fed Cup, it's better if we could have gained a little confidence. But I am no more worried than that. We will have let things settle, the girls set up their game on clay. This is going to try to implement to prepare for this meeting.

"What I dread among Slovaks? A bit of everything!"

- What do you fear most from these Slovaks?
- A bit of everything! Cibulkova is a multi-surface player who is now in the Top 20 for a year or two. Hantuchova was among the global top ten for several years and it is only dropped in the rankings last year due to injury. I know a little less players coming back, but these two are already extremely dangerous. They have already won major tournaments, they have experience of this competition. This will be what happens, a weekend very hard for us ... as for them! Indeed, the French team, by the composition of it, proudly. We expected a hard weekend.

- You will play to not get down. How do you handle this pressure?
- The bulk of players that make up the team have experience matches dam. This will be the third time in four years that the dispute in France. It will be a little more complicated, by the team that is facing, it is of a size slightly higher than that of opponents of previous years. But the girls are accustomed to it, unfortunately! It would play a semi-final match of a dam!
But we'll try to address this meeting calmly, doing work to do, trying to prepare girls to be in the best possible steps to get to practice their best tennis during this weekend in Limoges.

"I'm not there to tell me" Warning, you go down ", far from it!"

- What is your state of mind before the meeting? Do you think for a possible descent?
- It can happen, but I'm not there to tell me "Warning, you go down", far from it! On the contrary, it is the knife between his teeth, with great ambitions to achieve at all costs to keep France in the World Group. So yes, as in any sport, there can be defeated and thus effectively, there may be lower division descent. But it's just in a small corner of our minds, in a small corner up there, and we will try not to think about it. And especially focus to fully prepare and pass to win, simply.

- What a heavy defeat against Italy can serve you for this meeting and you did they learn?
- It can perhaps bring a spirit of revenge. Even if the girls had already forced against Italy because they had lost against the Italians in 2006 and 2007. But there is something else. This is not a first round meeting with a catch-up behind in case of defeat. Here, the hammer can be immediate. It will therefore be necessary to go with a fractious not possible to bring victory at any cost.

"The high level is very, very little"

- Personally, what have you learned about this first round?
- Some things I already knew! That nothing is ever that high-level sport is really very, very little. I also learned that working with girls is different. I have a daughter at home, I will soon have two, I begin to understand the psychology of women but it was something new for me. And that is why I am also very supportive of the staff, including Alexia Dechaume who gave me the gaps that I could have at that level!

- In Fed Cup, Alizé Cornet has three defeats in three singles matches played. It seems to have difficulty managing the pressure. How could she break free
- It's hard to say. The Fed Cup has nothing to do with what can happen throughout the year on the circuit. Here, we play for our country. You have a whole team with you, a team that is there for you. This is a somewhat delicate. It is true that for Alizé, it did not quite pin so far, but she is a becoming a player who is young and still going to be No. 1 on the team. But we do not put any extra pressure compared to that. Yes, there are on it, yes we hope she will win games, like the other players also! But it must happen to separate from it and run a little more pressure. I think the heavy defeat they experienced against Italy will necessarily help, definitely.

- The French team will compete in his third game of the dam in four years. How do you explain this lack of results?
- Perhaps because the French were not at their best during the Fed Cup matches. Perhaps because some players were deadlocked over the competition at times, as is still the case today for some. Then comes a whole. This is really nothing. But by standing by and that represents France at the international level is a bit damaging and sad that it's four years we are forced to play the dams. It will be up to us, to me, to educate girls. That's what I do since I posted. Nothing is ever achieved, it should always be challenging, especially in a competition like this.

- Will it have a stage of preparation?
- We will leave Friday evening (April 17) on Limoges to be on site early in order to work and prepare the meeting.
FFT.

alize to start her stage with the team this friday at Limoges.

 Is this a computer generated translation? What's with all the "dams"? Must be some word that the computer doesn't know. :rolls: What is going on with Virginie? :scared:. At least we know Alize's problems must be considered less severe than Virginie's ones.

yes lol from google:lol::p

dam??well very tough to translate cause the french word "goupiller" doesnt seem to have a decent translation in english.
As for virginie its surely some personal problems(with her husband perhaps... dont know)
alize surely has a problem right now, lack of confidence.

well alize lost a tough and hard match today against hantuchova, the score 7-6 3-6 4-6

the loss is disappointing of course but quite positive cause alize showed better face ,fighting spirit than what we saw in barcelona against cohen aloro.
She had this match in control with a set and a break but couldnt maintain this high level on a consistent way. She wa wrong tacticly cause she played way too much on the hantuchova forehand who was doing all the game winners and errors.
She was too far behind the baseline too, trying to get evry ball back but too short, ice cake for the big forehands of hantuchova.
I think if she had many matchs, win under her belt she should have won that match in 2 sets. Right now she's trying to get her confidence, game back after her shoulder injury. It is the first match such long and with muchintensity she played since the Paris quarter finale she played against jankovic in february!
she fought well and saw some better tennis sequences from her and thats positive.

She was so happy and relieved after amélie win over cibulkova. It was another tough and long match. I think she'll try her best tomorrow to play her best tennis and break that horrible "fed cup curse" and take her first win in that competition!

Allez good luck Alize!:)

Good post Amira :)
Alize
I'm so glad Amelie has won.
If Hantuchova played well and Alize too, and fought until the end and made it tight, it's already better than her recent losses. I really hope she can see it that way too, especially after Amelie has won so the chances to win the tie did get slimmer.
Good luck tomorrow.. Play well!! :)

no no no tea!

alize is trying to get her tennis back and its hard to do so after a long break.
I think she ll play tomorrow and she should play no matter what. She 's very good on clay and seems to find some "pieces" of her game on that first match.
I think she can enter the court more "relax" tomorrow cause she know amelie is here if she couldnt (I hope not) win tomorrow. She has to play more on the baseline and dictate the game with her top spin forehand. Be more "offensive".
She wont win if she stay too far behind like she did yesterday. I think cibulkova will be very tired too tomorrow, they will have to fight hard both.
Alize will try her best I m sure

No question she is trying her best. But it isnt an easy decision for the manager to let play a girl who is 0-5 in the competition.

omg I cant believe it, Alize did it again, she managed to lose a match she had in control:tape::tape::sad::sad::sad::sad:

she was down a set and a break before fighting hard and won the second 7-5, then she lead 4-1 in the third playing great tennis, cibulkova was completely outplayed, then she served an absolute awful game at 4-1,then collapsed since then to lose 5 games in a row.
Cant explain that loss.I thought she would win that match with a double break in that last set but seems like alize is becoming a "choker" and that is just so sad.
so many matchs she lost in 3 sets this year, heartbreaking losses.Cant say anything.
I hope she will recover from that.Thats hard seing her lose that way.

HowardH

I was so sure this was Alize's first fed cup win. The double break, I thought that was the nail in the coffin for Domi. Alize had a couple of calls go her way, and Dominika was getting rattled mentally.

It was hard to watch. Alize was on the verge of tears in the last couple games, you could see she was beginning to believe she would lose. I think Alize is too hard on herself during the match, sometimes when she is still ahead if you look at her body language you would think she was losing. My french isn't good enough to understand much of what she and Nicolas were talking about in the changeovers but it seemed like Alize was being negative and Nicolas was trying to make her more positive. I think that negativity is affecting her play in these close fed cup matches. She wants to win so much that she keeps telling herself off for missing, but she needs to have a more positive mindset to actually play well.

I must say Domi returned amazingly near the end of the match, so it wasn't all Alize's doing. But serving at 4-1, the match was hers for the taking.

I'm really happy France won eventually, but seriously, Alize, what the hell?
IN FO she managed play pretty well and win some matches, so why not in FC?
It's already her 3rd match in a row in FC which she should've win but lost.. I hope that atleast the fact that they've won at the end will make this loss a little less traumatic..
Guess who she drew in Stuttgart? Hantuchova!
Revange time.. But that's for another thread!

yes the french captain nicolas escude was telling her to think positive and forget about a point she just had lost.
You're right howard, alize is too negative and focus too much on details whereas she should forget and pass to another thing very quickly.
At least France is saved, Thank God the french girls especially amelie were amazing this week, nathalie was superbe on doubles.Great Great and tense last doubles match!
alize was sooo happy with the other girls at the end, all formed a circle and jumping together. Alize cried of all the emotions she had after all the week.
Perhaps this will give her some positive mind before playing in stuttgart and facing one more time "the tall girl" daniela hantuchova...

she knows what she has to do now.

Fed Cup World Group Play-off

France: Alizé, Rezai, Coin, Parmentier

Germany: Lisicki, Petkovic, Goerges, Malek

It will be a tough tie probably. It will be played in Frankfurt on clay outdoors. Let see the facts. Rezai isn't in a good form, she lost in the first round in Marbella and in Barcelona too. Coin and Parmentier didn't have any results in the past weeks. And Alizé is a mentally collapsed Alizé.

Lisicki is injured, she didn't go to defend her title in Charleston. Petkovic is a dangerous player, she hits always very hard. Goerges had good results on hard court this year. Malek played good in Marbella, but she isn't good mentally too.

The key for Alizé to have a good clay court season and maybe to come back is: a win over Lisicki.

Allez Alizé! Have a nice training! :bounce:

Pax, your analysis is probably pretty accurate.

Hard to tell which way this one goes. Neither France nor Germany are in their top shape. I have been thinking for a while that getting that first Fed Cup win will help Alize a lot. Maybe she will get it this time? Although possibly by retirement :o. (As another poster here noted, Sabine Lisicki seems to be made out of cookies, she's so fragile injury-wise). 50-50 probably.

reading the first post showed me how the actual alize cornet is far from that one I described in post 1!

she was 16 at that time, then climed to 11 on february then the start of fall to hell.
Now she's 84 with 00 win in this competition called fed cup.
After seing Bazcinsky match today against Vinci, Im even more pessimistic about alize chances in the next fed cup tie against germany.

Will she ever recover from her slump one day?Nothing is less sure...

First time since a LONGGGG time I enjoyed watching alize playing.

What a match she did in that decisif Double match pairing Julie Coin!
at the beginning Julie was the most consistent and strong. Alize seemed feeling less confident than her but managed to be consistent and not lose her serve.
Then in second set she rose her game and played more agressive in her returns, serving well.
That ace she did at 2-1 40-30 was so perfect at that time of the match. It gave her the confidence she needed to play even better:worship:
she was so different in that match than when she is on a tournament, behaving way better and fighting the way she used to be before.Holding her composure during all the match, not complaining at all and go winning the points at the net like a champion.:worship:

Yes it was a great match, very important for the team.Alize fall on her knees after petkovic ball finishing in the net.Yes this win means a lot for her today for sure.

The idea of Alize breaking the curse by winning a doubles match hadn't occurred to me, I didn't think of Alize as a doubles player... but actually it makes a lot of sense! In doubles the burden is more shared. I hope this helps Alize's mental confidence.

Well done Alize and Julie and the French team :D. for the German team. As I originally thought, it was a very closely contested tie worthy of a play off.

I worried about Escudé not to be dismissed. :p
I watched Pauline, I cheered her a lot. Alizé played a very good match. At the start of the match Julie played very good, she helped Alizé to have a big lead to be calm and not to be nervous.
