When we look at these two players, they are going toawrds a good path in thier tennis carrers. Both have done Wta Main draw events, and both have been overhyped about thier potential in thier upcoming years.

When we think of Laura, she got a Main Draw Wild Card into Luxembourg, where she took a set off a top 50 player. She has made impact on the challengers around the world, and has a Jr Wimbledon title at the age of 14.

Michelle the more older of the two, has had a pretty successfull year as she emerges to the top 100. She has had MD matches won, and over top 20 players (Pennetta, Radwanska). She has made an impact to the challenger circuit one in which she made the semis's of a 75k last year (lt. De Los rios 7-5 in third)

So the discussion is basically who do you think will have the Brighter Future in WTA tennis.

Discuss :)

Michelle by far!

Is it even a competition? We have seen more of Michelle, BIG WINS so far. Nerves of STEEL under pressure in Miami. She is faster, Laura has the better serve but Michelle moves better.

Hopefully these two will have a great rivalry at the top of the game in the years to come. I voted for laura (obviously) but right now if they were to face each other - i think Michelle would win, seeing as though she is (almost exactly) a year older and has a bigger game.

I'll follow these two players careers wih interest...

That's very hard to judge, since Michelle is older than Laura. Age and experience means a hell of a lot when you are a junior. Michelle has definitely shown the best results so far of the two, but then again, she is older, and she has played more tour events and gotten more experience. Both girls have a lot of potential. I am looking forward to the 2012 Wimbledon final, Robson vs Larcher de Brito.

well if you compare results up to their 15th birthday...Laura has actually been more successful than Michelle, with more Top 200 wins, sure Michelle had a flukey win over Shaughnessy who was a joke last year, but she was soon sorted out by Hantuchova in the next round!

having said that, Michelle is a huuge talent, and i agree that if they played now she would probably beat Laura (albeit in 3 tight sets)...however give Laura a year to mature even more, and Laura would win IMO

All Michelle's decent matches have been on outdoor hard courts. She has been unimpressive thus far on clay, grass and indoors. She hasn't played a lot of doubles either and her results haven't been good. She is still very young but from what I saw of her a Roehampton this year against Foretz, she did look a tad one dimentional. At her age there is of course a lot of time to improve but I've to say I am much more impressed with Laura thus far.

If Michelle and Laura played now, I think Michelle would win fairly comfortably on a hard court, but on grass, clay and indoors I think Laura would win.

 based on results this isn't even close. Michelle has already beaten a top 20 player and won sets off of two top 10 players.

Yeah but MLDB is 12 months older than Robson. If you compare her results from last year to Robson's this year, they're pretty similar.

Laura easily. Of the two, she is overwhelmingly better at understanding that there is a fine line between hitting the ball hard and brainless ballbashing. I don't like the term at all, but unfortunately the Burrito is a faithful practitioner of brainless ballbashing.

Was it a fluke against Pennetta and Radwanska. Was it a fluek she took a set of two top 10 players of Kuznetsova and Serena.?

Basing this assumption on what? One match, maybe?

From what I've seen of Robson, she's no less a ballbasher than MLDB is. Even so, the girl in your avatar is hardly the epitome of "clever tennis".

Anyway, both are overhyped, but Robson much moreso. Her Wimbledon junior run was pretty soft. Tabakova = Useless player, but potential model looking to boost her profile through a mediocre, at best, tennis career. Leerchewakarn (sp?) had/has absolutely no serve, or decent defensive play, and even Robson going walkabout for about 30 minutes was still enough to win rather handily in the 3rd.

The fact that MLDB has evidently no serve, means she will likely struggle to ever break into the big-time, i.e winning slams etc. She's had some big wins already though.

When will we ever learn that junior career is not a barometer of a players Professional career!!!!!!

But potential wise, Robson by far!

I've been following Laura's results for the last two or three years and although I think big things are ahead for her, I really didn't expect her to rise so fast in 2008.

When she easily lost to Shannon Mathews (a player who has seemingly disappeared since winning that event) at the junior Orange Bowl at the end of last year, I really thought she was gonna have to work even harder in 08. And then 6 months later, she is a Wimbledon junior champion.

I think the girl is the real deal folks and I would not be surprised that by the time she is 18, she will have passed Michelle by in results and ranking

In Michelle's case the hype is not based on her junior career, but on her results in the tour.

God.
Why. is. this. even. a. question. :weirdo:

Michelle is by far the better player, her wins over Radwanska, Pennetta et al surely proves this.
Yes Laura had a good run at Wimbledon, yes Laura did well to make the semi finals of a 75k in the UK.
But look at what Michelle has achieved in the last 12/18 months. There is no way Laura would come close to Michelle at the moment, and Michelle will be the better player overall.
There is every reason Robson could succumb to the pressure of 60 million Poms. Michelle is tucked away at Bolleteri's, following in the footsteps of Sharapova, Seles, Agassi et al.

Michelle is the best and will be the better of the two, no doubt

Michelle is the best and will be the better of the two, no doubtThe question wasn't who would win if they played now, as I think the vast majority would agree it would be De Brito as she's older and more experienced. The question is who has more talent, which given what De Brito had achieved at Robson's current age is certainly an open question. Plus you talk about the pressure on Robson (which can be exaggerated as most of the British media hardly care about tennis outside of Wimbledon), but De Brito needs to tone down her shrieking in a big way, or she'd better get used to being questioned about it at every press conference she has as she gets better known.

I'm so interested in how these two will develop. Both have had different approaches to their careers so far and have each had to overcome different obsticles. Michelle launched herself into the WTA tour pretty much from the get go and had had some VERY impressive results. Her serve is weak so she has to rely on her powerful groundies and good movement to win the points. Laura on the other hand has taken her time in seniors, still playing junior events. Her movement is not her strong point and she can get a few cheap points off her powerful serve. She's also has had to deal with more off court issues than Michelle (injuries, growth etc) which may have contributed to why she's not up to Michelle's standard yet.

Not even a contest. Laura by a land slide. Don't look at who would win now as they are in very different places development wise. She can do so much more with the ball so when she has matured some more it will not be a discussion. My guess in terms of slam wins over their career is 10-2 favoring Laura.

Well Laura is a whole year younger than Michelle, so the only way to really answer this is to take Michelle's 2009 results and compare them to Laura's 2010 results, or something similar.

The way things stand at the moment Michelle is the better player but i think Laura will end up the better player as Michelle seems to be a ball basher, Laura has more variety in her game and has a great serve, even with the 13/14 DF's. This is why Laura will take longer to develop.
