good wta debur for Laura :). I expected Iveta to win easily, so the fact that she took a set of a top 50 player is a real bonus. Iveta seemed to find her serve in the second set, which was really letting her down in the first.

Take the positives from this Laura, it won't be long until you're beating these kinds of players with ease :yeah:

btw - it was 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 ;)

I like Laura's game. Lots of potential here. Would say her game right now mostly lacks proper footwork. Many points where she got caught a few feet in the baseline like she was hesitant to go to net but not ready to exchange some more shots in the rally. But stuff like that will come with time as she improves. Serve is decent enough, the forehand is already a pretty good weapon, and the backhand isnt half bad either. She hit some really good return winners also, I was mostly impressed with her timing, especially on the forehand. Should be exciting to follow her progress on the tour, Ill be rooting for her. :yeah:

Totally agree, i think when setting herself up for aggressive shots her footwork is actually pretty good. Its more at other times during rallies and especially defensively that needs improvement. That and id like her to see run down a few more lost causes. But hopefully that will all improve as stamina improves and she progesses physically.

I've noticed this. She sometimes struggles returning powerful shots from wide areas of the court as a result.

TOP40 with big experience in her maybe best season is litle too much for 14yo WTA tour debut, but Laura played really good.

This 1994 girl is already better than any 1992 player (or atleast very close to be better). Her current height is about 170cm which means her final height will be about 180cm (over 175cm for sure), so her body will very soon much more suits to her aggressive style on court.

I think Laura did extremely well and deserves a lot of praise. She showed that she can live with the top 50 and totally deserved her wild card. She is still very inexperienced but has shown her brilliant potential once again. I'm excited to see the next instalment, wherever that will be.

Laura didn't quite look ready for that level of opponent. Once Iveta woke up it was all rather too easy. Expected more penetration on Laura's first serve but her serving seemed slightly too safe. The real problem is her movement isn't good enough to contest longer rallies at the moment, big spaces would appear for Iveta to strike easy winners into. Laura needs to keep the points short and take risks with her groundstrokes and her return of serve; her approach was sensible but she couldn't execute what was always going to be a high risk strategy.

Well done Laura!! :) No disgrace in the result or the scoreline! One step at a time is perhaps better that the pressure that might come from really good results straight away.
Thanks to the tournament director for giving Laura this opportunity and Good Luck Laura for the future!! :D

nice awakening by Iveta, despite being robbed of a gp in the third. The young one only got a whifff from Iveta's 7 aces. Way to go, Iveta !

A good effort for her WTA debut. :D Laura has so much potential and I like the fact that she doesn't seem to get overly nervous in these big situations. Taking a set off a Top 50 player is impressive. Laura will keep on improving and learn from this experience.

Check the BBC Sport (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/7660640.stm) website for a very brief video interview with Laura (might be UK only) and some comments from Ana Ivanovic.

Well I expected that Laura would win one set at least, but anyway i am still surprised that she won first set 6-1! It is clear that she wasn't nervous, she played great in her first WTA event.Well done Laura, she is mentally very strong, she lost only for less experience.

Didn't get to see any of the match, but to win a set 6-1 against a good top 50 player is really a great achievement for a 14 year old.

Recent performances certainly seem to suggest that she's well capable of competing strongly at this level, right now.
