For the second season in a row, Kim is the clear favourite having won two titles on clay already, it will take a big performance to stop her, Jidkova has used her 3 aces well and should have a good run, and Nastya is the defending champion, and that's basically the only reason why she's here.

The Contenders

JJ may not have the stamina to last the entire tournament but she should take out most of the 0-2 acers, Kaia is proving to be a formidable opponent on this surface and seems ready for the breakthrough and Anne has shown she can be devastating with 4 aces, but for some reason always falls short.

Kanepi overcomes pressure!
http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0biXe6i8IY3xy/340x.jpg
Paris October 22nd, Estonia's Kaia Kanepi has made a winning start to her Roland Garros campaign with a straight two setter over American Julie Ditty. Being named as a faovurite for Paris after reaching Strasbourg Final last week was obviously pressuring for the unexperienced Estonian. Ditty, THE fan's favourite on the ATC tour, was a clear underdog, as the match was played on clay. Ditty raced to a 3-0 lead, before Kanepi slowly found her rhythm, taking the next 9 games, after 1h 02m Kanepi finished the match in style with an ace. The next task for her will be Australian Open Champion Alicia Molik, yet Kanepi's gamestyle is suited a lot more than Molik's, but many say the pressure will be too big this time, going for the upset. Kanepi has yet to lose a first round match though, having joined in Melbourne!

"My mind was not set today, my start was rather critical, but to break for 1-3 game me much needed confidence in order to sort all the problems out. Julie is a very likeable girl and I understand she got that many fans, but hearing she'll be tired, I was quite upset, as I didn't expect to be the last to beat her, I wish her well for the future and hope her coach to find a new girl with the same posítive attitude on court. I have yet to get to know anyone, although Krajicek is a very alkative and pretty nice girl. My next match against Alicia willbe very tough, I don't expcet much from me, as I feel quite a bit tired and she got a big edge in terms of experience. My goal is to play my best, I'll take whatevr comes!"

You made it last season but missed it.:o

I've mentioned it before but Dav has a life.

I was at camp for the YEC :ras: and last season I had a slam - im not going to be in the top 8 after RG, I dont like my chances.

Draw was up over a day before the results, and you know I accept points after the deadline.

I was going to, but I saw Ben posted that the deadline had passed :tape:

Myskina's Reign Over Paris Continues
http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/545/21239283072myskina.jpg
Paris, France
Last season, we met a newcomer Anastasia Myskina who made a shocking run to the championship taking down heavy favorite Kim Clijsters in the final.
Nastya won 5 consecutive matches here in Paris last year and hopes to bring back that championship form this year.
"It'd be great to be the first woman to defend this title. I hope to go deep again this year."
Nastya had her first match today against Sorana Cirstea. Nastya used her great clay court game to score an easy 6-4 6-4 win and made a defence of the title still possible.
Next up for Nastya is Marta Domachowska, who has found form on her least favorite surfaces this season.
"She will be tough, but hopefully my confidence here can help me pull off the win."
Nastya hopes to relive holding up the winner's trophy this season at the French Open.

Krajicek Destroys Clay Specialist

http://www.futuretennisstars.com/images/players/Michaella%20Krajicek.gif

ATC #2 Michaella Krajicek makes the biggest surprise of the season as she demolishes Canadian player Aleksandra Wozniak 6-3, 6-0. With that win, the second seed reached her fourth quarterfinal of the season and her fourth straight grand slam quarterfinals.

Despite being the higher ranked player than her opponent, the Dutchwoman was considered the underdog in the match as Wozniack is a clay specialist. Thus, Krajicek, who usually dislikes clay, was not tipped to win the match by any means. However, that didn't affect the Dutch as she was already planning to join the tour's cheering squad to show support for the remaining players as she claimed it'd be an accomplishment for her to get more than 4 games.

Being last on court, instead practising for the coming match, she chose to rush back and forth to cheer for her peers. She was pretty surprised with a couple of the matches outcomes. She then went back to Court Suzanne Lenglen for her match. After just 50 minutes, guess what, the #2 seed won! Most of the crowd and other players, even the tournament director himself, were almost beyond speechless. Krajicek was almost feeling the same too but she shook her opponent's hand gracefully and a big "THANK YOU" for her opponent. Her opponent looked gutted though but couldn't do anything.

"Well, well, well, look what we have here(laughs). I really didn't expect to win the match you know. I have no idea how I came through this especially with such scoreline. She started off well, winning the first 3 games in a row. I felt a sharp pain on my ankle after that, so I took a medical timeout, thinking that could be the last time I'll be on court. I took some more time, enjoying the moment with the crowd behind me while waiting my pain to go off."

"God knows what happened then. Aleks just looked lost and clueless. She made errors after errors and all I needed to do is just put the balls back on court. I won the next 9 games and of course the match later, winning 41 points out of 63. She looked pissed off and shouted at herself mos of the time. I pitied her. She should have won this to be honest, and she handed the match to me just like that. She was just too nervous playing against me. Anyway, I'll take the win" commented the #2 Dutchwoman after the match.

She will face #6 ranked Belgian Kim Clijsters in the quarterfinals. This is only the match in the quarterfinals that features both seeded players. However, Krajicek will once again be the underdog while the Belgian is the hottest favourite to win the title as she had won the 2 of the last 3 clay events. "I have nothing much to say about Kim. She's a nice girl and she's back again to win the title this season since she surprisingly lost in the final last season. The pressure is on her for sure. I am already pleased with my performance. If I could win her, I would definitely be the Player Of The Year(laughs). Anyway, I am sure she'll have no problems against me. She won Daniela very convincingly. So an early congrats to her in reaching the semifinal first(giggles)."

Venus Victorious Again
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n253/TimmyBoy21/Venus.jpg
Venus Williams talks to reporters in a post match press conference after defeating world number one Alicia Molik in the quarterfinals of the French Open.

After going 0-4 on clay last season and starting off her clay season 0-1 this season, nobody expected much from American, Venus Williams this season. But at the Italian Open, Williams won a match and since then, everything has changed.

Although she lost in the second round of the Italian Open, Venus seemed to have a new found confidence about her ability to try and get used to a surface that she claims to dislike a lot. Williams then had a suprising run to the quarterfinals of Strasburg and came to Roland Garros knowing that she could win on clay. She just had to Veelieve.

Veelieved she did. And now she finds herself in her first career grand slam semi-final. Her previous best result was reaching the season one quarterfinals of the U.S Open. She will take on the very tough Akiko Morigami of Japan who is into her second consecutive grand slam semi-final and is the heavy favorite to reach the finals. But don't count Williams just out yet, in her quarterfinal match she stunned world number one Alicia Molik in three sets; 6-4, 5-7, 6-0.

"I'm just so happy to still be here. I fought've fought so hard throughout this tournament and it's great to see that my hard work is paying off. It's like, I have a one and four chance to win this title and it would be my first title ever. And to win a grand slam for your first title would just be amazing." Williams said during a post match interview.

"However, I can't really start to look into the future, I still have to get past Akiko and she's an amazing player. She's got a great game and is very consistant. I'm looking forward to having a good match with her and I plan on just playing my best and hoping that's enough. Clay isn't my favorite surface but I've certainly been having a lot of fun here and I just don't think I'm ready to leave yet."

Q: How do you feel about the way you played today?
V: I played good today. I had some chances to close out the match in the second set but I just got a little nervous and tensed up. After losing the set, I was just like 'What the hell'. But I just whooped her ass in the third set by giving her a bagel so it was soooo totally worth it.

Q: Are you suprised with your result?
V: I'm certainly happy everything has worked out the way I hoped it would. I knew I was capable of doing well here so I'm gonna have to say no, no I'm not. I think the tournament director is stunned with how far I've gotten. -Laughs-

Q: Did you watch Myskina/Serena match?
V: Of course I did.

Q: How do you feel about the result?
V: I think Serena played a good match but Nastya was just too much for her. I mean now she's 8-0 here at Roland Garros, she's the defending champion and this is like a second home to her. I definitely think she's the one to beat and I would love to meet her in the finals.

Q: Anastasia was seen at your match against world number one Alicia Molik, are the two of you close?
V: Yeah. She practices with me on the court sometime, we go to clubs together to say 'hello' to all our adoring fans. The other day we went shopping for hours and bought lots of cute things. We're planning on donating some to Michaella Krajicek so she looks less like a trailor trash whore. It will be a challenge but I think we're definitely up to it.

Q: What are your predictions for the championship match?
V: Of course me vs. Nastya. I think without a doubt we're the two best players left in the draw and a grand slam final is just the perfect way for us to display our games. I think it would be an amazing match. I think Kim is good player but she's such a choker. She chokes more than Maria Kirilenko in a dark alley with her male clients.

Q: Many have said that you are the best American in women's tennis. Would you say that's a correct statement?
V: Of course. I'm the only one left here aren't I? And when the new rankings come out I'll be the top ranked American once again. So stats back me up too. Sorry bitches, but I win. Again.

Myskina Slides Her Way Past Serena
http://myskina.sharapova.nl/2006rg/3rdRound16.jpg

Paris, France
Anastasia Myskina made the semifinals of Roland Garros for the second consecutive year yesterday with a thrilling win over Serena Williams.
Serena took out Meghann Shaughnessy in the second round with a convincing straight set win. Nastya as well picked up a convincing win, over Marta Domachowska 6-3 6-2. This match would go on last on Court Philippe Chartier, and both players came out determined for the win.
Serena used her big ground strokes to move Nastya side to side, and hit numerous winners, which helped her edge out the set 7-6(3). Nastya then started to be like a backboard and just get everything back into the court and wait for the Serena errors, and it worked as she took the set 6-1, as Serena committed 23 errors. Third set, Nastya started to look confident, remembering last season here when she needed to play pretty much all 3 setters, and this experience helped her pull off the win 6-4, as she started going for her shots and painting the lines.
In the semifinals, Nastya will take on the woman she beat in the final last season, Kim Clijsters.
"I don't like my chances. Kim is without a doubt the best clay court player, and she has shown that the past 2 seasons with her clay season dominance and she has just crushed the field so far this week."
