Here are the current point totals for the players who can still qualify:

7. Venus Williams 2522
8. Maria Sharapova 2515*
-----------------------------------------------
9. Vera Zvonareva 2436
10. Agnieszka Radwanska 2131

*Sharapova has already announced that she will not play anymore this season

Note: Zvonareva and Radwanska are playing in Linz the week of October 20 and Zvonareva is planing on playing Quebec City the week of October 27

If Vera does well in her last two tournaments, she will secure the seventh spot. For Radwanska to overtake Venus for the eigth and final spot, she will have to win Linz and enter Quebec City and win (which,IMO, is unlikely).

Venus and Vera, Aga has no chance with her draw next week.

Venus and Vera. I'd eat my hat if they don't.

No way Aga is winning Linz and Quebec City and I say that as a big Aga fan. As far as I'm concerned Venus and Vera are in. Aga will be the 1st alternate unless someone pulls out, which isn't impossible.

Aga is young, I'm sure she'll make it to the YEC next year or sometime in the future.

^^ Yeah. I think she's at 2372 because she picked up 35 points in Zurich this week.

How are the groups decided again? Is it the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th ranked players in one group and the 2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th ranked players in the other group? Race ranked players, I mean.

Actuallym, I took the points from the Sony Ericsson site (adding Venus' championship points from Zurich). I have to add Vera's and Aga's points, which I forgot to do.

i dont think thats how they decide....i think its just 2 from the top and 2 from the bttm in each group. I could be wrong though....

Ponts total for Zvonareva and Radwanska updated.

I will know tomorrow morning if my totals are correct when the Sony Ericsson website updates its rankings and champions race points.

I think it's not. They seed the players according to their 52-week ranking and place them in groups with 1 from seeds 1-2, 1 from 3-4, 1 from 5-6, and 1 from 7-8. 1,3,5,7 and 2,4,6,8 happened last year but was just a coincidence. I remember Chaky was drawing the names and placed herself in the group of death with Justine, Jelena and Serena. But she managed to get to the semifinals with that group. :worship:

in fact it wouldnt make sense for it to go 1 3 5 7 cause then the #1 player would have a tougher draw than the #2 for sure... which defeats the purpose of a ranking... ;)

you could just look at the boiled eggs rankings....;)

That's what I was thinking.

I just hope Venus and Serena are in separate groups!

Those are the 52 week rankings. The YEC race is based on ranking points accumulated from the first tournament this year until the last tournament this year.

I just hope that if Venus and Serena are in the same group Ana won't be in that one. She won't be able to go through to semifinals for sure. Though hopefully she might be seeded in the same group as Serena. ;)

Ideal group for Ana would be JJ, Sveta, and Bepa. :D

yes...but doesnt the boiled eggs system include an entire year of tournaments while the YEC is from the start of the year...so how could vera have less point for an entire year (including last year) than she doesn from the start of the year? your YEC race points should be lower than your ranking points ALA Sharapva...

As I previously stated, I got the rankings (beforeI added the Zurich points) from the official WTA Tour site, so if I am wrong, so are they.

well it is not so bad if they end up in the same group. Then they'll go in different SFs and play each other in the final :bounce:
I'm afraid that if they end in separate groups, they'll meet in the SF

The top two are put in opposite groups, and the rest is done randomly; for instance, if #3 is picked for Group A, #4 will automatically be placed in Group B.

Can someone explain how are these 8 players divided in 2 groups? i believe it's always like 1.3.5.8 in one group and 2.4.6.7 in another,is it the case this year as well?

I think it's random... As long as 1 and 2 are on opposite sides as well 3 n 4.
