So the last Tournament of the Year for Anna, I hope she can win 1 or 2 Matches, so she goes in the off-season with a little confidence and will work hard for the next season.

Two consecutive wins would be an achievement at this point. Maybe Anna can finish off her year in style.

Chakvetadze Ends Losing Streak in Luxembourg

LUXEMBOURG, Luxembourg - Russia's Anna Chakvetadze was back in winning form on Monday, as first round action began at the FORTIS Championships Luxembourg.

Chakvetadze, who fell out of the Top 10 in the summer and had lost six of her last seven matches coming into this week's event, upheld her No.2 seeding with a tight 64 76(4) win over Mathilde Johansson. Both sets began much easier for Chakvetadze, as she burst ahead 5-2 in the first set and 4-2 in the second set; but while Johansson was able to tighten each of them up, the Russian was able to close them out each time.

Since losing in the final of New Haven in August, Chakvetadze has had a string of early losses, four times in the first round (US Open, Tokyo, Moscow and Zürich) and once in the second round (Beijing). In the next round she'll face either Iveta Benesova - against whom she got that lone win in her recent losing stretch, in the first round of Beijing - or 14-year-old British prodigy Laura Robson. They play their first round match at the Tier III tournament on Tuesday.

Well I got home and checked the results. I was surprised no-one has come in here and posted this yet:

Iveta Benesova def. (2) Anna Chakvetadze 6-2 6-4

:hysteric: I have no words.

Oct 22nd, 2008, 07:27 PM
:bigcry: Anna :(
I thought you would of played well today against Benesova

Oct 22nd, 2008, 11:26 PM
Anna  I guess she just can't win two rounds in a row right now.

Oct 23rd, 2008, 12:38 AM
Not a good year for Anna. She won a Tier II, another Tier II final, a Tier I SF, 4th round Wimbledon.
She's capable of much more.

Oct 23rd, 2008, 01:52 AM
Ouch. You know, if Anna's mental strength has crumbled this month, perhaps it's time to look at her coaching?

Oct 23rd, 2008, 12:43 PM
I hope next year she will come back refreshed.
She is deffo capable of doing much better than what she has shown us this year!
