Depending on which Iveta shows up, this is a very beatable opponent for Laura.

I can definitely see Iveta tanking this one if she gets down an early break to a 14-year old girl so it is critical that Laura gets off to a good start in this one.

I'm not sure about this match, 'cause Laura is very talented. But I just can't imagine that a girl from my age (I'm also 14) could win against a pro who is 42 in the rankings and played already like ten years on the tour. I think Laura doesn't have enough experience, so I think (and actually, I hope it too, 'cause Iveta is my favourite active player ) Iveta will win in two, something like 7-5/6-2.

If Iveta can play well it will be no conetest. However, she can get so bitchy and pathetic on court that a tank is more likely than not. :o

Laura 6-4 6-4. I see no reason why Laura can't win this match. This isn't clay.

Iveta can win this in one hour or lose this in one hour. :tape:

She's far from her 100% form so everything is possible.

As several posters have claimed, it depends on which Benesova shows up. If it's the good one, then Laura probably stands no chance. If it's the bad one, she could lose to pretty much anyone.

Laura in 3 i reckon :) :) :)

i hope

Laura is under-hyped and a good thing too. LOL at people trying to suggest that she is over-hyped if she doesn't beat Benesova.

Time to face reality Benesova easliy Robson looks like she'll be good but she's not beating a top 50 player not right now

Iveta can lose to anyone when she feels like it but hopefully she will turn up. She should want to end what has been quite a good year on a good note. She'll have a good chance to push for a top 30 ranking at the start of the year before she has to start defending points on clay and will probably drop out of the top 100 again

Robson has a lot of time. A heck of a lot of time actually.

I will be very disappointed if Iveta doesn't win this. Iveta also now has an outside chance of finishing the year as the Czech number one too which would be amazing so I hope she goes for it and finishes her season well.

Whom Robson beat that 50% of people voting in this thread favour her over an experienced player like Benešová? Or is it just a wishful thinking?

Stranger things have happened, but Iveta really should win this. I'm kind of surprised that this poll is so close. Nothing against Laura, but she is still inexperienced at this stage. I think Benesova in two.

Robson has a chance against one of the game’s great headcases, but when Benesova turns up to play she can be awesome. And she certainly won’t want to lose against a 14 year old.

Iveta in straight sets. Laura will storm off court, lock herself in her bedroom and tell her mum that she hates her.

Maybe.

People wondering why the poll is so close, isn't it obvious that it is biased :weirdo:
The Robson fans are all saying she will win

I don't think anyone really expects Laura to win this. She has done brilliantly so far in her senior debut, beating two top 200 players and taking two others to three sets, but she has never played anyone in the top 50 before so this will be a really big challenge.

This wild card is more about giving Laura experience of this level of tournament and opponent - Benesova is just the sort of player that she could meet when she gets her wild card at Wimbledon next year, so it will be very useful for her to be 'blooded' at this level at this stage. She will be able to measure her progress and see what needs to be improved so that maybe next time she can win this sort of match.

Having said that, I agree with the posters who say that Benesova can lose to anyone on an off day and although she has had a really good comeback year and has kept the bad losses down, her last match was an embarrassing 6-1 6-1 mauling by Sofia Arvidsson and is definitely something to give the Robson camp hope.

So, a fascinating encounter in prospect, which could go either way. I would expect Benesova to win, though hopefully Laura will give a good account of herself.

Dave.

There is no need to be so bitter because a British junior is doing so well. People have reason to vote for Laura as she already proved she is a big match player (at least in Juniors) and can perform under pressure. We all know Iveta isn't the most reliable player in the top 50 and can have days where she will lose to anyone. Laura is clearly keen to get her career going and will be looking to take advantage of anything.

Of course Iveta is the favourite but it wouldn't be totally out of the question (or even that surprising) if Laura were to win.

I vote [WC] Laura :rocker:
