LUXEMBOURG TIPPING

Welcome players..!! This is the 38th tournament for this game in 2008.

Tipping is like Tennis Tipping but different. You don't play other people and you don't have to tip the score which makes it an easier game to play. Everyone can play!! You're allowed to play for more than 1 tournament in a week.

HOW TO PLAY
Playing Tipping is very easy. I will post the schedule then you just tip who you think will win. Just type "in" to play. (this will make my life easier but if you forgot to post "in" this is not the end of the world)

e.g If the schedule was...
Ivanovic vs Sharapova
V. Williams vs S. Williams

This is how you would tip...
Ivanovic
V. Williams

It is only main draw singles matches.

If there's 1 point played in a match then the match counts. (walkover or retirement doesn´t count)

SCORING:
1st,2nd Round = 1 point
Quarter Final = 2 points
Semi Final = 4 points
Final = 5 points

The ranking points you will recieve for a tournament are those you gaind in the tournament plus bonus as followed:

Winner: 120
Runner up: 90
Semifinalist: 60
Quarterfinalist: 45

go to: http://www.wtaworld.com/showthread.php?t=326469

This is where the rankings are... they will be updated few days

Best congrats to the FAB4 that have won this TIPPING title here in Luxembourg. ;):wavey::worship:

But I think it's time to change the rules for next season. There are too many draws at the top in the last tourneys

Btw, this night we could have the BEST8 for the YEC finals

I suggest going back to the old "tie brake system":
for the finals, all could send you by PM the expected # of games, and the nearest woul win.

I suggest going back to the old "tie brake system":
for the finals, all could send you by PM the expected # of games, and the nearest woul win.

That would be OK if moderator wouldn't be one of those in the finals. I believe most wouldn't cheat, but you never know, especially if everything would go by PM's.

My idea for avoiding these situations is to increase the number of possible tips. Here's how.

- Let's say Ivanovic and Dementieva are playing;
- if you think Ivanovic will win in straight sets, just type "Ivanovic"; if you think Dementieva will win in straights, type "Dementieva" i.e. do it like we do it now;
- if you think Ivanovic will win, but not in straights, you type "Ivanovic 2:1" and the same with the other player if you think she'll win by 2:1;
- that way we could award 3 points if you guessed the winner and the correct result, 2 points if you guessed just the winner and 1 if you just guessed the score, but not the winner (cause your player won a set);
- for example, if Ivanovic wins 2:1 and you said so, you get 3 points; if you said she'll win in straights you get two points; if you said Dementieva will win by 2:1, you get a point (cause she won a set); if you tipped Dementieva in straights, you get no points;
- that would diversify the points awarded a lot, and we wouldn't even need diferent points awarded for diferent rounds; we would have 4 possibilities for each of 16 first round matches alone.

I understamds Ma re's idea.
I thought we were considering only final matches, therefore giving points to wrong picks doesn't make sense.

I still think my suggestions is more easy to apply.
If not by PM, then by posting, and first posts will count- e.g: in order to avoid similar numbers in posts, numbers of games in match which are posted first, are not allowed to be postes again by others. This way moderator has no say on the posts, and there will be a decision.

I agree that your idea sounds simpler, and yes, I was refering to the points during the whole tournament. But your idea would not resolve things like ties. For instance, let's say rankings after semis look like this:

1. 30 points
...30
...30
2. 26
...26
3. 24

If one of those sharing the top spot would be closest by the number of games in the final he/she'd win the tournament, but if the other two on the top ranked and the two sharing 2nd place after semis would all guess the winner, we'd have a tied 2nd and a tied 3rd place. And those multiple ties happen in almost every tournament.

Now, I think we should do a poll in the tipping thread (games section), where we'd ask players are they interested in an experiment. I'm thinking of trying both, your and my idea, for example during challengers after the YEC ends. It wouldn't count for any rankings of course, it would just show us how each system works. First you pick one challenger and open a thread there, where we'd play by your system. Then I moderate one challenger by my system. If anyone else has a good idea, he/she could do the same. In the end, we choose what most think is best for the next season.

Of course i agree to a poll and try out of the proposals.

But anyway, i think you didn't quite undertand my solution.

1) It's implemented for the finals
2) The guess of number of games played in the finals could not be repeated.

Example-

After the finals:
--------------guessed games
1. 30 points.....29
...30............19
...30............20
2. 26............22
...26............28
3. 24............14

the final score was 6:4 6:3 - 19 games

The winner would be line #2
2nd- line #3
3rd- line #1
4th- line #4 etc.

The only way there could be a tie, is if the score was 15 games, and two differnt players guessed 10 an 20.
But even then, the first who posted his pick would be winner.

In other words, you're suggesting that any tie (not just for the first place) is resolved by who's the closest to the number of games played in the final match, and if it's tied even after that, that the faster tipper wins?

If that's the case, it's fine by me, no need for experiments unless someone insists after coming up with another idea. You'd still need to suggest it in another thread in games section, just in case someone missed this discussion, so that everybody accepts and learns the new rules.

Fine, will do

I think that ronim's suggestion with the tie break system is the best solution. In order to avoid that the manager cheats, he/she should send the number of games played in the final to another player so that no one can cheat. From my point of view, ma re's suggestion is a little bit too complicated.

Many thanks to Roni and Ma_Re for the interesting in Tipping :bounce::worship:

We'll start with these new rules after YEC finals, so for some challengers before the end of the year.

And from the first tournament of 2009, we'll start full with new rules. I'm totally agree that manager must send the pick to other player so it will be impossible to cheat.
If manager will forgot to send final pick to other player he'll receive 0 point and so he'll lose the possible title.

Haven't we agreed to take this to a specified thread in the tipping part of games section?:)

See you there.
