Venus is looking really tired out there. I'm glad this is her last minor tournament of the year.
Her movement is quite sluggish.

As for her game ...meh.. was too passive and made a lot of UE. That's what mostly kept Schiavone in the match. Schiavone tried to play out of her mind but failed. lol. She tried to go for big shots and hit big winners but most of the time they didn't go in. Which imo was a stupid tactic cuz Venus looked tired, Schiavone should've tried to extend the rallies and just play consistent cuz Venus wasn't going for big shots anyways.

Is she back to no. 8?

ohh and :worship: Venus at 4*-3 0-40. 4 big serves to dig herself out of trouble. Haven't seen her do that in awhile.

right now Jankovic and Pennetta hit their groundstrokes harder than V. I think she needs a bubba-head again. She served well though! :D

 That game where Vee was 0-40 down serving at 4-3 second set was crazy. Just typical of Vee in so many ways ;)

Anyway, onto the semi-finals :bounce:

Yay! Go Venus. It can't have been too bad with that scoreline against Schiavone, right?

From what I saw Vee was very impressive, 5 terrific serves from 0-40 down at *4-3.

ok venus has been playing alot of tennis.now she has to get her rhythm out there.and who knows it could be that time of the month.as a female trust me i know this.anyway good luck.another semi so she is trying her hardest and yes she has to get that fight back in her.so if she struggles it should make her want to work that much harder so that she can find that consistency again.so a hard fought battle is what she needs to show her that she is back in the fight and she can now become the hunter and not the hunted.

Agree. I thought so in Stuttgart as well. But that's just confidence. Venus is low atm while those two are riding high.

lol you saw the best moment for Venus in the match. wasn't really indicative of her level of lay throughout.

She played well enough to sneak through!

Good on you Venus!

Great serving under pressure! 2 aces in a row to rap it up!

Franny did play some great tennis from 1-4 down!

Venus was moving well! Great defensive points, what the hell did you see? But yeah she did look tired!

I things were gonna get complicated when she was down 0-40 at 4-3 in the second. But that's just like my inconsistent Vee, to play well when her back is agaisnt the wall. :yeah:

Now get revenge on Kvitova/Ivanovic, then hopefully Pennetta to really show you deserve the title! :bounce:

Yes, from 0-40 down in THAT game, Venus was goddess like. Not just that game, but she uped her game. Getting the returns in, a bit more aggressive... she needs to ride that form in her next to matches.

About Venus not hitting as hard... when she needs to she'll turn it up. In stuggart before the Safina match most people were saying Safina just hits so much harder, but as we saw during the match, Venus could out hit Safina when needed, but also make fewer errors when needed due to the increased topspin she uses. Venus has the options now, how hard she's hitting in early rounds isn't a big issue IMO.

BTW, did you guys see how Vee saved the second break point in the *4-1 game in the second. That shot was amazing, a half lob, half backhand chip into the corner tha Franny couldn't run down. See, Vee has all the shots in the book and can then create some. Told you guys, the Federer of the WTA is she wants to be. :)

I saw the match on ES from 6/3 *2/1 on :)
It wasn´t very impressive, many UE, and she often played to defensive
But a few really good points at *4-3 and 0-40 to 5-3* :D

A decent result, but she has to improve her game to reach the final, we´ll see ;)

i thought so, too. i was like :tape: what the heck? you're not gonna outpower venus, so the countless ue's arent worth it -_- totally wrong tactics. playing solid and slicing more would have helped, but well.

anyhoo the match is on t3nnis.tv with a lengthy interview at the end with vee.

Venus is playing horribly off the ground. She seemingly can't hit more than three shots without making a wild, random error. And when she hits the ball, it looks as if she has no idea where she's sending it.

Schiavone is a paradox - she plays an appealing, intelligent game while being the proud owner of some very ugly strokes and having never hit a ball cleanly in her life. I'll miss her a lot when she's gone.
