It's possible Dani might withdraw.

From her website

""Daniela will take the next week off and return to competition October 20th for the Fortis Championships""

So it's possible she will be replaced with Petrova? Hmm hope not.

Centre Court (from 12.00hrs)

2. A.Bondarenko vs. Cornet (NB 14.00hrs)

4. Hantuchova vs. Kirilenko (NB 18.00hrs)

The draw is not so bad. Hantuchova is more or less injured,Caro was sick last week and Schiavone plays really bad these days...It could have been worse.

Hantuchova is in the OOP. But she said before that she won't play.
If a LL replaces her, she won't play tomorrow.
If it's Petrova then it's one of the hardest draw possible. So hopefully that won't happen.

I'm at least there for her to support her for more than 100%!

Hantuchova is the #8 seed. if a seed pulls out all then the seeds below the one who withdrew move up a place. So if Hantuchova withdraws Petrova will become the new #8 seed and the lucky loser will take Petrova's old place in the draw.

That was a good win for Maria even though Hantuchova is in a terrible slump. But it seems Maria's troublesome left knee is bothering her again because she was wearing a brace on her left knee. :(

Nikkiri
Oct 14th, 2008, 09:01 AM
"I think we both started off with not much rhythm and as the match went on I felt a little better," Kirilenko said. "I called the physio on court at 5-4 because my knee was hurting and she had a blister or something. After that break it seemed to help me as I won five games in a row and she started making a lot of mistakes.

"I knew I would have a chance to win if I could keep more balls in play than her and that's what I did. It worked out quite well for me in the end," added the Russian after her 75 62 win.

She really shouldn't play doubles if her knee is giving her problems, this is a good chance for her to do something in singles.. But well Maria loves to make things hard. :sobbing:

DAVAJ MKirilenko
Oct 14th, 2008, 11:36 AM
I guess the match wasn't shown anywhere so I'll tell how the match went.
Maria played well in the begining except for the 2nd game.
She did some great returning and only a few errors.
At 4-4 15-15, Daniela asked for the medical for the next game.
At deuce it looked like Maria made a move that hurt her knee. It could say it but it looked that it wasn't bothering Maria that much.
The 2nd set wasn't better than the 1st. Only Daniela couldn't keep up the level.
Afterall it was one of Maria's best matches this year. Some nice winners, also with serve. Good returning and not many errors.
So I'm even hopeful when she plays Wozniacki.

DAVAJ MARIA!!!!

What a disappointing loss for Makiri today. I can`t believe that she blew that 4-2 lead in the second set. She had such a golden opportunity to close out the second set with two more games, but instead she let it slip away and gave the always scrappy Fran some life. I don`t know what else is there to say other than this is a missed opportunity for Makiri. Hopefully she`ll have much better luck in doubles tomorrow.

Oct 16th, 2008, 06:06 AM
Maria...when are you gonna get mentally tough and stop letting these leads slip? :(

Maria will be back in the top 30 though if Venus beats Schiavone. :)

Why is Maria playing Linz instead of Luxembourg? In Luxembourg, she'd probably have an easier first couple of rounds.

DAVAJ MKirilenko
Oct 16th, 2008, 11:14 AM
Maria didn't start good but gladly she hold serve in the begining.
1 break was evenutally enough. In the 2nd set she played better and got a few break points. But any time there was a good serve so there wasn't much chance for Maria.
But I can say she made the point of the tournament. An awesome FH down the line in lost position.

Schiavone won a point with a hotdog.

With a break for 4-2, it looked like she could turn it. But just at that moment she made some important errors. The same at 5-5 which was totally unnecessary.
Still not a bad match, so she's still at the right way I would say.
Hopefully more luck in Zurich. With this kind of game she won't lose against players like she did in the last months.
Although she could play some more aggressive like she did against Vera or Daniela.

Much happier with that effort :yeah:

Bad luck girls  No shame losing to a pair that are doubles specialist

Tough loss today for Makiri and Flavia. However i`m very encouraged with the leap of improvement they showed against Black and Huber from last week. So this is something for them to build on. I`m very proud of their effort. :clap2:

Calm down, there's still Linz to go yet.

As for Krakow - I believe she does have some fans in Poland, so maybe that could persuade her
How am I not calm?

Maria/Flavia  but good effort. :)

It's just that you were saying Makiri would go to Dubai in order to get a seeding for AO.

Wooooooo. Let's just see what happens in Linz first I say.

Which she probably would, if not for the points for the money. I'm sure they paid her quite a bit last year. ;)

Yes, pretty good draw. She might be able to make the QF.

Not necessarily. A lot may depend on who she draws as qualifier. Let's hope it's not Kvitova or Makarova.
