Daily recap - Day 4

* Much better scores today, so obviously people are more at ease now. Everyone managed to get Williams right. Almost everyone got Srebotnik right. Well except Adam that is, who believed in Bacsinszky (one can obviously get too wild). It ended up somewhat fatal in his doubles match (that and Kirilenko losing), when the Fiberplotz gang came back from behind and kept up their winning run. Doubles partner Savestheday91 could not save it anymore and also suffered narrow defeat in singles at the hands of Geo Tennis Fan. The wrong set ratio for Arvidsson proved decisive there
* Best player of the day was clearly Forza Pennetta, who was the only one to put in a flawless performance. Alongside Smokovec, it also guaranteed the best doubles performance of the day. With his favourites Franny and Flavia the day could have not been better. Well, his reading skills need to some improving though. Sending your picks to your doubles opponent might not rank high in the clever tactics category. Being of moral integrity, I shall not exploit it. Adrian1992 received the picks as was needed.
* Forza Pennetta came through as a qualifier, but he was not the only one. Diego36arg followed up his fine form early in the week to claim the scalp of fourth seed HenryMag. He matched his good result with a nice doubles effort alongside Gigi_dulko. Argentina seems to be a nation on the rise.
* Top seed Hotel was a casualty on the day ousted by Canadian Drake1980 and along went seeds Leoneo (who was unfortunate enough to meet Forza Pennetta) and HenryMag (who did no better in doubles later). Seeds Meelis and Slowvin now rank among the favourites. Let's not forget about Moscow winner Denijs though (seeded six). He is still up for a second tournament win in as many weeks (as are the Fiberplotzies in doubles).
* In doubles the top two in the seeding list survived as Chris 84/SloKid and Dementieva_Dude/In The Zone won their ties. The lower seeds Meelis/SodaPop and HenryMag/Ruisantos lost however, making the teams with participants in singles lose out here. Denijs and Libre83 also came through, with Libre83 doing considerably better than earlier this week. Against Fiberplotz good moves will certainly be called for.
* And I can't end this recap without publicly admitting my doubles partner does have game. Meelis is warned in singles, Matt means business.

Daily recap - Day 5

* Another crazy day here in Zurich. Everyone thought that Zvonareva would win, yet her match ended in retirement. An even more dramatic climax followed for those picking Radwanska. She was up 5-2 in the second set and very near to a win, but still managed to lose in three to Srebotnik. It could have made result different for some. It was at least the key to Geo Tennis Fan winning over Slowvin
* Crazy picking Italian Forza Pennetta was once again the bright star of the day. His beloved Flavia won against all odds against Jankovic. He was the only one bold enough to go for that one. With Srebotnik winning as well, it was enough for opponent Drake1980 to throw up his hands in despair. In doubles Francesco also won, with Smokovec adding a nice Kvitova win to the team. James and MH0861 did not have a reply, when Bartoli also could not reel off the surprise over slumping Ivanovic.
* Matt faced yet another disappointment, with a really close call againt Meelis. Equal in set ratios, it was Ivanovic who broke the tie and handed victory to Meelis. The lovable American is on his way to Luxembourg, where Lindsay is rumoured not to play after all. How much can one face in one day? It is now up to Meelis to try and stop the Italian qualifier.
* Denijs keeps his dream run. Unstoppable since Moscow he wants to make it a clean sweep no doubt. Kvitova gave him the edge over qualifier Diego36arg. Geo Tennis Fan is the next one to have a go and did not seem to confident there. Yet he bumped out the second seed, so why could there not be more?
* The Fiberplotz team is also coming off a Moscow title and their unique combination made stars sparkle all over court again today. Denijs and Libre83 came just short. It is now up to SloKid and Chris 84, the solid top seeds, to throw a spanner in the works. They recorded a win over Ivanovicfan and Vincey!. It was the latter's pick of Bartoli, that ended their run (of course Ivanovicfan picked Ana, to no surprise).
* Dementieva_Dude and In the Zone no doubt had the easiest run on the day. Gigi_dulko failed to make an appearance. Diego36arg made a brave effort, but it was not to be. The Canadian-American pairing will certainly need to be on guard this time though, as the Italians are a force to reckon with.

Daily recap - Day 6

* Things rarely go as they planned here in Zurich. Everyone but Francesco picked Azarenka. Unfortunately she had to retire, leaving one match less on the board. Medina once again wins by retirement, so we can hope Flavia does not meet the same faith
* Crazy picking can get you far, but combined with blind love with your favourites it can be dangerous. Francesco certainly believed in Schiavone beating Williams, but our Forza Pennetta was going against all odds. And Venus showed him the door. He can be happy Flavia did win though, although he won't be playing here anymore. Opponent Meelis remained stable and that was the key to the win for the Estonian.
* The Italian crazy picking may have infected Smokovec as well, as he was the only one going for Srebotnik, despite her struggling far much earlier on in the tournament than her opponent. The Italians were the only ones without a perfect score on the day. In The Zone and Dementieva_Dude could rely on solid picking to see them through.
* Drama in the second singles semi, as Moscow winner Denijs played a very close tie with outside favourite Geo Tennis Fan. With Azarenka retiring, the spotlight came onto the Pennetta match, that Gigi was closer in. A dream run has ended, but Denijs can look back on two fine weeks. Gigi knocks out another seed. And finds another one in the final, so who knows?
* The last doubles semi saw another crazy pair, the infamous Fiberplotzies, play agains the always solid Chris 84 and SloKid. And once again, the solid choices prevailed, although it must be said there was nothing at all crazy about the Fiberplotz picks. Just Pennetta in three sets, which the Italian did not agree with. And so all Moscow winners are out and Zurich will see a seeded doubles team win.

Daily recap - Day 7

* Not much excitement today on the first day of the final. The outcome of the matches were obviously predictable as everyone had Pennetta and Williams winning. That still leaves a lot of excitement for tomorrow, as nobody is comfortable yet.
* Meelis and Geo Tennis Fan did not give each other an inch today. Same picks, same set ratio, and yes even a set the same. It's going to be hard to separate the two at the final score line. Both could appear at the YEC, with Geo Tennis Fan ranked lower in the race rankings. Perhaps a little extra motivation to grab that much coveted trophy tomorrow.
* In doubles Chris and Milan took an early set ratio lead, as one of their opponents believed Medina capable of taking a set. They also thought Ana was capable of grabbing one, and with that they were right, so the lead in set ratio was reversed. An very strange tactic by Matt differing his TB and SR proved succesful. Chris an Milan will have to be careful with their picks now. Or go all out maybe in the Francesco way. Who knows what will bring the cup home.

You are up indeed. I added a score wrong. But if you send in a score in 3, your set ratio is not 2-0.

Are you sure? I've asked Matt and I've had people send in different SRs from their TBs. Your TB doesn't necessarily have to be the same as your SR, does it? I thought that was allowed?

I interpret it as the basic "square is a rectangle, but a rectangle isn't a square" argument.

If you don't send an SR but it's a TB match, we're nice enough to consider that SR in the TB score. However, if you send a SR, it doesn't have to be your TB score. The two are independent but 99.99999999% of the time they are identical.

No one has been on. :(

Oh, it's important indeed, I understand that. Let's hope someone can give a ruling soon.

Perhaps it's wise to indicate it specifically when done (if allowed). I considered the 2-0 a simple typo, as most managers would have.

Vamos Israel picked Vaidisova 2-0, but tiebreak 3 sets. And it was accepted. So I guess it will ok here too. Even though it looks weird :p

I don't agree with it. it's like giving two chances to someone

imagine two players picked someone 2-0 and that someone wins 2-1 then a guy appears with a tb which has a SR2-1 he wins?
I think i'm going to start sending my picks like this: Pennetta 2-0 but if it goes to TB then Venus 6-4 3-6 6-3

The SR and TB are independent. They're not mutually exclusive. That's how I view it. I think it's pretty strategic to do it, actually. I think we're just nice that when someone doesn't send a SR, we use the TB to figure the SR.

I don´t like it either. But if there is no rule that forbids it...

Ok, if it can be done, I will accept. I agree that it looks weird though.

It is not a courtesy either to accept the TB as a SR. 99% of a players want the TB to be their SR, in cases where an SR are needed.

Is there any rule that forbids me to send 2 different picks for the same match?

Anyway i don't want to start an argument so do it as you wish

Maybe the board can look at it and make a ruling for the future.

All this for what may have been a typo after all. :p

Ummm....my SR/TB difference result from the fact that I was sleepy/dumb when I sent in my picks. Sorry for the troubles  I'm awake now, for when I send for the final...so these picks should be okay...

I'll soon start making picks like
singles: Williams 2-0 Pennetta 7-5 4-6 6-2 games: Pennetta 13-8
doubles: Willaims 2-1 Pennetta 6-3 7-6 games: Williams 16-12
:p
Just saying a clarification would be great, and probably very much in the interest of the managers ;)

Honestly, probably Pennetta in 2...since Pauly picked her in 2, any doubt I MIGHT have had would have been erased, and I would have been swayed to pick her in two... I mean, c'mon seriously....Medina indoors....how could I think she'd lose a set :help: :p

Meelis and Geo Tennis Fan both picked Williams. Meelis picked her in 2, Geo Tennis Fan in 3.

Chris 84 and SloKid both have Pennetta, Dementieva_Dude and In The Zone both have Williams.

Daily recap - Day 8

* And so we come to the end of the TT event in Zurich. Full of suprises and novelties like different set ratios and TB's, but we were able to crown two winners, Meelis and Dementieva_Dude/ In The Zone
* In the singles final Meelis and Geo Tennis Fan were very close up till the end. However Geo Tennis Fan lost on the one set ratio, when believing Flavia could take another set off Venus. Both had a fine event, with Meelis just a little better.
* In doubles the effect of yesterday's confusion regarding Matt's picks was felt. Chris and Milan were equal in score to their opponents, but behind in set ratio. They tried to go for a Pennetta win, but were unable to produce a win anymore. I guess being sleepy has its advantages, but to some this victory will leave a bitter aftertaste. Be that as it may, Paul and Matt will be happy regardless.

i dont agree with multiple or different predictions of a same match when playing TT

you pick one outcome, for singles and doubles, pts and srs :p

 it is my opinion of course, and nothing personal to anyone ^^, just my views of the game

you have to pick what you think a match will result, if you pick 2-0 in srs and go with pts in 3 setts, its like telling someone a match was won in straight sets, and asked the scoreline and you say 4-6 6-2 6-1.. its like :tape: that cant be right :rolls:

the board should clarify all the rules and make it simple :) people send one score for singles and doubles and period :rolls: it gives a lot of room for speculations and i dont think that's the real aim of TT isnt it? i mean, you predict, dont gamble :p

Again, I apologize for my stupidity causing problems...but I agree, we should make this something THIS RIDICULOUS doesn't happen again.
