Look who’s got a boyfriend…

http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p222/kasia1992/kasia1992x/sharapova-and-boyfriend.jpg

Your luck’s run out, folks, Maria Sharapova and her long legs are dating a young gentleman called Charlie Ebersol - hence, she is temporarily off the shelf. He’s a wealthy American, who once survived a plane crash, and his dad, Dick, was one of the wise brains behind Saturday Night Live.

That’s all we know.

Dick Ebersol in wikipedia:

Personal

Ebersol has been married to actress Susan Saint James (McMillan and Wife, Kate & Allie) since 1981; the couple met when Saint James was guest-hosting SNL that same year. The couple had three sons, Charles, William, and Edward "Teddy" (who died in 2004). Saint James also has two children from a previous marriage. Ebersol was briefly married to former Wheel of Fortune hostess Susan Stafford in the 1970s. With his wife Susan Saint James, they are part owner of Litchfield, Connecticut radio station, FM 97.3 WZBG.

Ebersol is the only person other than songwriter Carly Simon to know the name of the subject of Simon's song "You're So Vain." He won the right to know in a charity auction where he was taken to Carly Simon's home at midnight where she would make a snack of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and she would tell him the origin of the song. Beforehand he was required to sign a confidentiality agreement.

Ebersol summers on Chappiquiddick, Martha's Vineyard off the coast of Massachusetts.

2004 plane crash

On November 28, 2004, Ebersol was seriously injured in a charter plane crash in Montrose County, Colorado. The pilot of the Bombardier Challenger CL-601 and a flight attendant (Warren T. Richardson III) were killed. The body of Ebersol's 14-year-old son, Edward "Teddy" Ebersol, was found under the wreckage the next day. The aircraft was departing from Montrose Regional Airport (near the Telluride Ski Area) for South Bend, Indiana, where Charles Ebersol, Dick Ebersol's son who also survived the crash, was a senior at Notre Dame. Dick Ebersol suffered broken ribs, a broken sternum and had fluid in his lungs. Charles Ebersol suffered a broken hand and two breaks in his back. The co-pilot of the aircraft, Eric Wicksell, was in critical condition at a burn unit in Denver. Teddy Ebersol Field has recently opened in Boston in memoriam of his son.

NTSB investigators said that the plane had not been de-iced prior to takeoff and that they were investigating other potential factors in the crash. Original eyewitness accounts said that the plane never even got off the ground: running off the runway, skidding across a road and crashing through a fence and into a field where it burst into flames. However, Ebersol himself said that the jet struggled at 20 feet in the air before falling back to the runway and breaking apart.

Ebersol and his surviving family appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show on February 2, 2006, to discuss the crash.

Episode 82: "My Lucky Charm" of popular TV series Scrubs is dedicated to Dick Ebersol's deceased son, Teddy Ebersol.

Look at his face. Absolutely average, not particularly intelligent. Nice he may be...

Perhaps his dad is influential in show business. For MS this alone may be his most interesting quality (I am cynical).

P.S. All right. I took another look. He at least looks decent. That alone makes him probably a very rare find in the showbiz flock.

Maria Sharapova has a new boyfriend: Charlie Ebersol, son of NBC Sports chairman Dick. But that didn't stop the tennis hottie from putting herself up for auction at the Bryan Brothers' All-Star Tennis Smash charity event last weekend. Despite Sharapova's joke that "My boyfriend will outbid you," one lucky guy won a date with the bombshell - for just $10,000.

Since we are all speculating---how ridiculous does this sound:

Maria is an extraordinarily gifted athlete, and though beauty is a subjective thing, hers has been good enough to win her a fortune in endorsement deals. Maria is intelligent and multi-lingual, has travelled all over the world and has a competitive personality.

Ebersol's mother and father are both talented people, and it is likely that he has a good education. His father's creative talents are legendary, and they continue. He has worked in tv, is still finding his way, but maybe Maria sees good potential in him. In one picture, he seemed an inch taller than she is---that might count for something.

Just guessing, like everyone else. I come down in the category that there would be nothing shocking if they do genuinely like each other.

it's just funny that camilla was wearing a green dress dancing with verdasco, a tennis player. and now maria is wearing a green dress dating this guy from show business.

camilla and green dress (show business) = verdasco (tennis player)
maria and green dress (tennis player) = charlie (show business)

it looks like a math equation to me!

Yes! And the green represents the payoffs made for the cover job. :p

Maria didn't unveil him. This is one photo with this guy. Supposedly this is from the Bryan Brothers fundraiser. He's probably the guy who won a date with Maria.

One photo does not equal new lover.

I guess not, from Maria's quote - apparently she is calling Ebersole her bf and somebody else won her for the date.

Maria Sharapova (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Maria+Sharapova) has a new boyfriend: Charlie Ebersol (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Charlie+Ebersol), son of NBC Sports (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/NBC+Universal+Inc.) chairman Dick.

Oh god, did she really say that? Where is it linked from?

Eww ugly as hell tbh!!!

This is what I have been saying: she is smart (in every possible sense of the word 'smart'), yet she keeps the distance from her own practical way of thinking by this supreme auto-irony.

So forget about 'Romantic Love'. There is simply no place for it in the world of people as rich as Maria. She can only wed an equally rich, or a richer person ... unless she wants to get ruined in view of the current divorce laws in the Western countries.

When Russia invaded Georgia, McCain made a big bombastic show of how he speaks for all Americans when he says we are all Georgians.

Actually, that's new to me as almost anything else about politics would be: I don't watch TV, and, by a conscious decision, I don't read newspapers (with very few, and inconsequential exceptions).

I still don't have enough time for other types of reading, like Poetry, Literature, History. All three can teach you more about the Present than the combined efforts of all the journalists and pundits. One Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri is worth more and will teach you a lot more about the Present. And in 20 years from now will be as valid as it is today, while most of the opinions expressed in media today will be confined to a dustbin.

In the past, there were times, when I had been listening to what journalists and pundits had to say, but after a long while I realized that even the ones who seemed to me to say things more sensible than others, were essentially repetitive and hollow. It was enough for me to accept a few valid points they made, and I decided not to subject my brain and my senses to a daily portion of indoctrination which can only make you sterile.

Regarding your remarks about an attitude towards Russia, having myself several very good Russian friends, here in California, and in Moscow, and holding achievements of Russian spirit in high regard, I would be foolish if I felt obliged to extend my high regard also towards the policies of Russian governments, past and present. Actually, few nations had governments that were as oppressive towards their own citizens as well as to the neighboring countries, as Russians had. This is not just my personal view. This is a demonstrable fact, it also coincides with the view of a great number of true luminaries of Russian intelligentsia, and is shared by my Russian friends. Actually, the majority of them are much more critical of the policies of their current government than I feel any inclination to be.

Their sacred right: to be critical of the policies of their government.

Malva, it is pretty difficult to rebut your air of superiority, because I am in that naive class of people who do not completely ignore pundits and journalists in favor of the historic classics of literature to figure out what is what.

It is one thing to recognize and bewail the faults of your inadequate homeland governments---it is quite another to overlook a person such as McCain who seems ready and anxious to reopen and reestablish the tensions of the cold war in order to advance his own political fortunes.

I would try to explain the apparently happy marriage of Mary Matalin and James Carville----two total opposites in politics---to acknowledge and admit that political agreement is not always necessary---but they are of the ilk you seem to disdain. They are probably in wikipedia if you ever find 2.5 minutes to spare.

I think my post offers a lot more than just what you ironically call the 'air of superiority'. On the other hand, it is a sociological fact recently noted and discussed, that making references to Poetry or Literature in public space offends many. Some editors, and TV hosts, ask us to refrain not just from quoting Dante or Goethe but even from mentioning them because the reader or viewer may feel offended. Thus, your hostile reaction doesn't surprise me in the least. Even though this phenomenon is variably explained yet there is agreement that the situation itself is new and not attested before in the history of human societies.

sorry to butt into your conversation, but thats a nice little catch-22 you found there. if someone disagrees with your snooty take about classic literature being a better indicator of the present than current journalism (which in itself is literature, albeit of a different nature), it must be because they're too offended by the reference to classic literature, not because your argument is flawed. otherwise they would have to agree right?

http://gaysocialites.com/photos/charlieebersolmariasharapovadating.jpgTennis hottie Maria Sharapova has found her matching handsome man in Charlie Ebersol.
Ebersol, the son of son of NBC Sports chairman Dick Ebersol and Hollywood actress Susan Saint James. The Ebersol family suffered great tragedy in 2004 when Charlie and his father were in a plane crash. Charlie’s younger brother Teddy, 14, died at the scene.
Sharapova is a Sony Ericsson WTA Tour player, currently ranked 6th.
I guess Maria and Charlie are just trying to prove that pretty people belong together. I'm happy for them!!

Maria Sharapova meets her love match: Charlie Ebersol

Tennis star Maria Sharapova has a new boyfriend: Charlie Ebersol, son of NBC Sports & Olympics chairman Dick Ebersol.
Ebersol, who once survived a plane crash, and his dad, are one of the wise brains behind Saturday Night Live.
Sharapova is a former World No. 1 Russian professional tennis player. She is currently ranked World No. 6 by the Women's Tennis Association.
According to Forbes, Sharapova is the highest-paid female athlete in the world from the tennis circuit

if someone disagrees with your snooty take about classic literature being a better indicator of the present than current journalism (which in itself is literature, albeit of a different nature), it must be because they're too offended by the reference to classic literature, not because your argument is flawed. otherwise they would have to agree right?

In order to see that 'the argument' is flawed one must first to address it, then to think about it, analyze it, and finally to present in a coherent manner one's own view in relation to it. None of this was present in the response to my post which you so highly commend.

If you did anything of the above yourself, then you'd realize that I didn't make any arguments in my post at all. You should start by recalling that my post was in response to a message about supposedly extreme hostility of Sen. McCain towards Russia, and how supposedly Sharapova was not pleased by Sen. McCain's declarations.

That message was addressed directly to me, and since Russia didn't figure even implicitly in any of the previous posts, I couldn't resist an impression that in the eyes of nelsondan I was some sort of a TennisForum Russophile who because hasn't been observed showing disgust with likes of Sen. McCain at any opportunity or without it, must be suspected to be a covert supporter of that vile and dangerous individual.

Such a perception in turn shaped my answer.

First, I felt obliged to explain my personal situation, so that I might be cleared of the hideous crime of being suspected of supporting Sen. McCain's policies. So I had to start from saying that I had very dim idea about Sen. MacCain's policies. Which as an admission is absolutely sincere, and directly related to my scepticism in impartiality, and even competence, of TV and the press, scepticism that has developed over the years. Because anybody who doesn't trust TV and questions journalists' both motives and competence, is instantly suspect in certain circles, I decided to give my personal reasons for such a conscious decision, and this is where I deemed appropriate to mention that I found better guidance in great Literature and History, than in the combined efforts of leading journalists (if you call their output 'literature', then I can only sigh). I also mentioned that 24 hours with all the pressures we are subjected to daily doesn't leave us with too much time to waste.

Secondly, having been suspected (or, expected) to be particularly concerned by anybody's hostility towards Russia, I felt obliged to briefly explain the nature of my interest in Russia. That's all.

There were no arguments in my post. And therefore there was nothing to be refuted in subsequent posts while a lot that could form a basis for subsequent mutually fruitful discussion. There was no such discussion, however, just offended glances in my direction.

I shared some of my personal experiences, however weird they may seem in somebody's eyes. I don't see any reason why your or anybody else's reaction should be to be offended by anything I wrote. I am not offended, by any of your opinions, .e.g., your opining that journalism is literature in response to my invocation of Divine Comedy and Goethe, even less by your personal experience.

I happen to disagree. I have seen Maria express emotion, and some wry humour in her blogs---I am not ready to assert--as you do--that Maria has no place for romantic love.

I, for one, don't think any better (or worse) of, say, an idiot, upon learning that he is an Obama supporter (or a McCain supporter).

That was speculation on my part---I have seen how excited Maria was about being with other Russians in some of the tennis events--once even attending just to root for them when she could not play. She often seems very American, but she has a strong sense of nationalism. She still cares about her homeland. Just a wild guess--Ebersol does not consider himself a Georgian---but maybe he has friends who are children of highly paid lobbyists for Georgia.

Then you admit that you don't know much about current politics.
Actually, that's new to me as almost anything else about politics would be: I don't watch TV, and, by a conscious decision, I don't read newspapers (with very few, and inconsequential exceptions).

I call that an assertion. I have read the account of people like Mark Singer in the New Yorker about the savings and loan fiasco to get perspective on the credit meltdowns going on now---the activity of McCain in the Keating five is not something confined to the dustbin, even though it dates back 20 years.

On the other hand, it is a sociological fact recently noted and discussed, that making references to Poetry or Literature in public space offends many. i can't believe that some of you think he's unsuitable for her because he's "not good-looking." forget the fact that he has so many other qualities and is probably a swell human being. but you'd rather see her with a "handsome" bum? :weirdo:

Well said.

First of all he IS very good looking! Google the guy. He's cute. Oh, did I mention that young Mr. Enbersol is not only handsome, but VERY wealthy? Of course, comments on Charlie's so-called lack of looks go to show how utterly shallow and immature some people are. I bet he adores Maria and treats her like a queen. You go, Maria! :worship:

I'm happy Maria has a a non-tennis playing boyfriend. Leave them alone and let the girl enjoy her life. Besides, the Maria loving guys on this messageboard are just jealous at the thought of Charlie-boy TAPPING THAT ASS!

so, you wanted people's input, or "discussion", but nothing that refutes what you said or else it was because they got offended by your references.

The hostile tone of your post doesn't leave me with anything to answer. You just pick certain fragments from my posts and then treat them in a derogatory manner without a slightest effort to understand what and why I wrote. A dialog is possible only when both sides have good will.

post 115:

Quote:
So forget about 'Romantic Love'. There is simply no place for it in the world of people as rich as Maria. She can only wed an equally rich, or a richer person ... unless she wants to get ruined in view of the current divorce laws in the Western countries.

I happen to disagree. I have seen Maria express emotion, and some wry humour in her blogs---I am not ready to assert--as you do--that Maria has no place for romantic love.

Consider how dogmatic your statement is regarding Maria's capacity for romantic love. You seem so sure of something you cannot possibly know.

The comment about being ruined in view of current divorce laws implies a negative outcome should Maria opt for a marriage based on something other than financial worth. This guy named McCain married a woman who is about 100 million dollars richer than he is---not something I admire in him---just an example of how someone in "the world of the rich" can have a long-lasting marriage with someone not from that world.

I enjoy Maria's doodles and she has a wide-eyed wonder about people from coaches to big stars, to just people she encounters. I simply admit that I am not willing to rule out the possibility of Maria finding romance.

If you look back over what you have said--you will find other examples of asserting things you cannot know.

Since I do not restrict myself from reading sources to the extent that you do---I have learned things which made me revise, or at least be open to possibilities to change what I think. Mr. Ebersol senior replaced Mrs. Gary Trudeau (Jane Pauley) on NBC. He was not well-liked by a lot of the snl performers--being considered a controlling personality. Ron Reagan junior was a lot different than his father. Sometimes the apple does not fall far from the tree---sometimes it rolls way down the hill. Many things are possible.

Probably the biggest thing for me to keep in mind---this is much ado about just one or two pictures.

This post of yours sums up very well your whole attitude, nelsondan.

My reading comprehension skills may very well be at the level of an average illiterate member of the forum but at least I have enough good will to treat seriously those who I am responding to, and am willing to put effort into reading what they try to communicate in their posts, even when they don't return the favor.

True. I resent when people respond to me without reading what I had to say.

If this is addressed to me then you are mistaken: I did read everything you wrote. Your stubborn lack of any good will is what made the dialog impossible, not my failure to take you seriously. I did. I don't bother to read or respond to the ones I don't take seriously.
