I would like to see her rest up this week or just not play doubles. I want her to go far in Moscow.

It's a decent draw. The most dangerous player, Zheng, is on the opposite side. This may be a good oppotunity to move up in the rankings.

This is a good looking draw for Makiri. Her section looks pretty favorable. Hopefully she can get to the semifinals.

Good draw. I just hope she's not to tired, and she can just go with whatever momentum from this week.

potential Maria vs Marta match in R2 :awww:

It's a decent draw, but I remember Maria saying she doesn't like the really fast surface they have here.

Its a nice draw a SF is possible if shes not too tired. But yeah I don't think she likes these courts? Oh well good luck! :D

Of course, she has a good draw but she must feel quite tired after this week in Seoul.

Well, she's a big fighter and she can win some matches (like 5 for example)

Why is Maria playing doubles? She's probably at least somewhat tired after this week, so why not conserve energy to try to go as far in singles as she can?

Maria said that she's very tired. I hope she doesn't start another losing streak. Why does she play doubles?

DAVAJ MKirilenko
Sep 29th, 2008, 12:49 AM
Many times I said already that she should skip some tournaments in doubles. 50% is enough.
Now it's Tokyo with a good looking draw. If she won't get a WC for Moscow she has to play qualies when Tokyo is not even finished.
And the 2 weeks after that it's Zurich and Linz.
I hope she will stop killing herself.

At least 1 day off now. Hard to guess what we should expect in Tokyo.
Good luck girl!!

This kind of schedule isn't that much of a problem when she's in a slump. Otherwise there would be weeks between her playing matches :p

But hopefully she can continue to play well now. But to do so it's also crucial that she gets enough time to recuperate. :help: I just hope she finds a way to keep her form without putting her health on the line here.

Anyway, good luck to Maria in the tournament! :) We'll see what she is able to do. I am a careful optimist. :p

Also, she has no ranking points to defend here. It wouldn't hurt to bag a few more of those to improve her seeding in next years big tournaments.

HowardH
Sep 30th, 2008, 11:40 AM
Yeah I guess she was too tired, her knee was probably bothering her. Some rest will do her good. Just about all over now.

Although having said that she seems to be fighting pretty hard to not get broken to lose. Maybe... she held! Well if she can win a couple of early points in Klara's service game it might get interesting. That game could prove psychologically important so long as the service game remains close.

It was a big fight,Maria was probably tired but didn't give up when she was double broken at the beginning of the 3rd.

We can't blame her,now she needs some rest and to cure her knee.

She will play some doubles matches in Tokyo. I think that she could ask for a WC in Moscow. She would have nothing to lose there.

What I'm wondering is whether this loss is the result of fatigue, injury, or just the usual inconsistency from Maria. I suppose we'll find out eventually.

Probably a bit of all 3 :tape: She had tough matches in Seoul she has to be a little bit physically and mentally exhausted.

She needs to give up some doubles she plays far too much. She has nothing to defend the rest of the year now she should be focusing mainly on singles.

I agree. Doubles is important, but she should focus on singles more and give herself good scheduling to allow her enough stamina :)

Makiri needs a radical re-think of her schedule. Fewer tournments, less doubles and more Tier I and II as opposed to III and IV.

A final in a Tier II gets nearly twice as many points as a final in Tier III. At the moment she's playing a lot of matches for not many points.

As usual she took us for a rollercoaster ride in the third set :hearts:

Too bad she lost, though

But I am too pleased with her results last week to be disappointed with her now. :) A reaction was not unexpected.

Now is the time to gather physical and mental srrength for her next tournaments.

playing it indoors didnt help
now rest of season is indoors now

she's 4 away from MD in Moscow, she'll probably get a WC there unless its given to this yrs Fed Cup players.

oh well, rather expected loss

now skip the doubles and rest up for Moscow (qualies)

playing qualies might not be such a bad idea, if and when she got through them, I think she would have a better chance to win a main draw match as well

I don't mind withdrawing from doubles it gives Maria more time to prepare for Moscow a more important tournament for Maria in more ways than one

I hope it's just a minor niggle and she withdrew to get some rest before Moscow

That was probably also the reason for the medical time out againsy Zakopalova.
I guess it's not that serieous since she almost won it.
Let's hope she will be 100& for Moscow.

I'm back guys :p

Congratulations on the win in Seoul, great fight over Sam to in another title. Shame on the loss to Zakopalova and hopefully the injury isn't too bad. Hopefully she's staying cautious for Moscow where she's been given a wildcard. I hope Maria can progress deep into the draw and maybe cause some upsets. I'll look the pages of pictures of her Seoul title, and make a graphic request for Nikkie soon. Good luck in Moscow
