Vote for your favorite extended match (match that surpassed the 6-6 score in the third set, no tiebreak) since 2000! It can be either because of quality, drama and entertainment, it's up to you:) Here are the choices!

None other than V. Williams def Davenport at Wimbledon 2005, of course. S. Williams def. Sharapova at Melbourne 2005 also comes close.

Sep 26th, 2008, 03:49 AM
Venus Williams def. Lindsay Davenport 4-6 7-6 9-7 :worship:

and of course...Jelena Jankovic def. Tamira Paszek 2-6 6-2 12-10 :hearts:

The choices are up;)

2001 AO was awesome, but so was the 2005 Wimbledon 3rd round (whoaaa that was one roller coaster!!) and the 2005 Wimbledon final:)

BTW in those matches only 3 saved match points (2005 AO SF, 2005 Wim F and 2008 AO 1st)

Oh God I forgot the 2007 RG 4th Sharapova VS Schnyder:(... Just didn't have enough space, sorry:)

"Wimbledon 3rd Myskina def. Jankovic 6-0, 5-7, 10-8" I try not remember :tears:

Sep 26th, 2008, 04:06 AM
I like both AO semis but I voted for Serena def. Maria. Even though the first two sets were boring, that match had so much drama at the end!

Sep 26th, 2008, 04:27 AM
Wimbledon '05 2R: Dementieva def. Klaschka 26 63 86 :hearts:

OK, seriously, probably Wimbledon '05 F out of those listed, but if I can go beyond that, Date's win over Graf in Fed Cup '96, 76(7) 36 1210 is my favorite. Even if it's before 2000. :o But so many extended matches since '00 mean nothing to me.

OMG i was JUST watching the Serena vs sharapova matches 2005, 2007 on youtube. wow, how timely. anyway i voted for 2005 serena vs sharapova of course.

Sep 26th, 2008, 04:45 AM
2005 AO SF I guess. I would vote for the Wimbledon final if I still wasn't bitter.

Henin d. Capriati 7-6 in the third in the 2003 USO SF tops all these though.

Sep 26th, 2008, 05:02 AM
The Wimbledon final. There has been no greater match this decade.
coming in close second is Henin def. Capriati 46 75 76.

Sep 26th, 2008, 05:18 AM
Venus Williams def. Lindsay Davenport 4-6 7-6 9-7 :worship:
2005 Australian Open SF S. Williams def. Sharapova 2-6, 7-5, 8-6:drool:

01 RG was a great match i think

05 Wimbledon was an awesome match even though lindsay lost :bigcry:

Sep 26th, 2008, 10:07 AM
Jankovic def. Paszek is by far my LEAST favorite extended match

Sep 26th, 2008, 10:11 AM
Easily the first one : Hingis vs Serena. Most of the others had drama but not always a great level of play.

Sep 26th, 2008, 12:23 PM
Hingis-Serena was at a completey different level in terms of play. Just a phenomenal match, all around. Hingis played a brilliant first set (ony 2 unforced errors) and Melanie stated that her daughter had never played a better set of tennis.

For me the best and most extraordinary are those that the winner had to save match points to win, because facing a match point the feeling of hoplessness and disappointment after playing a long time and fighting, can be really strong and to overcome that is remarkable, Vee 2005 Wimby final :D : Vee was behind in every set and almost all the time and seemed to be on her way to lose the match every time, but she just kept coming back. Even saved that match point Lindsay had with a classic Vee Backhand winner
Second is Serena def Maria australian open 2005 saving those three match points, that was just crazy mental toughness :D :rolls: She looked so calm during those points  :)
By the way did Anastasia have a MP in that olympics SF?

Sep 26th, 2008, 12:53 PM
favorite = heartbreaking? :sad:

Sep 26th, 2008, 01:01 PM
Australian Open 05 QF  and the Wimbledon Final of course.

Sep 26th, 2008, 02:04 PM
By the way did Anastasia have a MP in that olympics SF?
Nope she didn't:p

Dementieva def. Capriati 2004 USO SF 6-0 2-6 7-6(5)

Great first set and some of the rallies in that last set were awesome :worship:...

Crowd was a bit... :help: with respect to Lena's serving, but the rallies were excellent.

Dementieva def. Davenport 2005 USO QF... That match point saved off a Davenport 1st serve :worship:

The Myskina/JJ marathon :hearts:

It was fun and the only match on the poll that has 2 players I like
