I've just read the comment about the match after the 1st set "Playing very well, but Radwanska has lost it mentally and has had treatment on foot. Looks promising" and it says all about how the match looked like. Typical Ula's defeat :o

I just wish that one day Ula will get it together, she could have been a great player (well i wish so) if she had another mentallity

Well done Laura

On Radwanska's mental approach, this was a comment posted on another board by someone who watched the match...

Radwanska didn't to herself any favours as from the second game she started smashing her rackets and screaming at the umpire phrases like:

"zee ball wez in. eez it becuz she iz englisz that you call it in?"

... which particularly got the crowd against her, whilst Laura had to turn around as she was laughing about it herself.

This is all rather exciting. :D

Laura was sensational winning Wimbledon, and seems to be continuing the good work.

Great win today.

Coin has flipped and gone out, Arvidsson is somewhere in the draw.

That might be bit much at this stage, but who knows.

Went out to some girl 6-4 6-1:o

Absolutely brilliant by Laura - Radwanska is a prospect herself so this is a much better win than beating some has-been. It is amazing that she reaches a quarter final at a $75k in her second ever senior event - how many of the current Britgirls have done this in their whole careers to date? She is also unbeaten in completed matches so far as she lost in her previous tournament by default. She gets 15 points if she loses the quarter-final and 1 point for second round $10k Limoges so she is guaranteed 17 points and a ranking of around 680 if she gets a ranking point in her next event. Quarter-final versus the canny but not unbeatable Tzipi Obziler of Israel, who is aged over 20 years older than her! :worship:

British junior No.1 Laura Robson is the lone British woman remaining in the draw at the LTA $75k tournament at the Welti Tennis Centre in Shropshire after celebrating a 6-3 6-3 win over 17-year-old Urszula Radwanska of Poland.

In what was a tough one hour and 49 minute contest, Robson's heavy groundstrokes, and some shaky serving by world No.134 Radwanska, decided the match.

"I was pleased with my performance today," said 14-year-old Robson, following her victory. "Radwanska is a tough player so I knew I had to play a good match in order to win today. I am looking forward to my quarterfinal match tomorrow."

Robson will face 35-year-old Tzipi Obziler in the quarterfinals, the Israeli woman upsetting Julie Coin of France 6-3 6-2. "It was a good match today," said Obziler. "This is the first tournament I've played since the US Open because I wanted to take a break after a busy couple of months, so I'm very happy with my performance today - it was much better than yesterday. I'm taking things match by match and I'll just have to see how it goes against Robson tomorrow."

Obziler's quarterfinal against Robson is scheduled to be played at 6pm on Friday evening.

British No.2, Elena Baltacha fought out a tight first set before succumbing to Stefanie Voegele of Switzerland, 6-4 6-3. "I was disappointed with today's result after playing a good first round match," said Baltacha, the world No.134. "These tournaments get stronger and stronger. It's obvious when you look at the girls playing here this week that the standard of play is extremely high."

British No.4 Katie O'Brien was another casualty, falling to tournament No.3 seed Kristina Barrois of Germany who is ranked No.153 in the world.

Elsewhere, tournament No.2 seed, Maret Ani of Estonia, cruised through her second round match with a 6-0 6-1 win over Megan Moulton-Levy of the USA. And Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium, the No.6 seed, won her second round convincingly 6-1 6-2.

Top seeded doubles pair, Sarah Borwell of Great Britain and Courtney Nagle of the USA won their doubles quarterfinal in straight sets 6-4 6-0 over Moulton-Levy and Kelly Anderson of South Africa. Borwell and Nagle will take on Stefania Boffa and Nikola Frankova in their semifinal, to be played second match on Court 1 on Friday.

Action at the $75k in Shrewsbury kicks off at 3pm on Friday with the quarterfinal between Kirsten Flipkens and Maret Ani taking place on Court 1 and Kristina Barrois' quarterfinal against Stefanie Voegele on Court 4.

Special tiered seating is being constructed for the remainder of the tournament with entry for spectators costing £3 for Welti Tennis Centre members and £6 for members of the general public.

A couple more points and she'll be the #2 Brit

Obziler will be a very interesting test. For Laura at this stage that will be a more difficult match than against Radwanska because she won't give it away.

Yeah, but with the tournament restrictions rules that just isn't possible any more. Nobody since Hingis has reached the top 100 before their 15th birthday.

well done laura, you rock!

why do people think U.radwanska has so much potential, tennis is as much about the mind as it is technique, so to be talented means you have at least some of either. even with a solid mentality i still only see ula as a top 50 player.

zee ball wez in. eez it becuz she iz englisz that you call it in?

This quote shows every sign of being a mean spirited parody. I don't buy into it.

On the other hand, I may have been among her principal doubters but I can't help it: my reservations regarding younger Radwańska are still in force.

I agree.

even with a solid mentality i still only see ula as a top 50 player.

I am now not even sure of that. I don't see any positive development in her game.
