this is sports. guess aga needs time to mature as a top player. and the chinese are always strong infront of home crowd, think na li at the olympics.

:yeah: When I first saw the draw I thought Jie was screwed but now I'm really really happy for her!
Since Wimby she must be super-star in China, so winning in front of her home crowd must be big for her!!:woohoo:

I hope we get an Ana vs Jie match!

Something is really bothering Agnieszka lately. Already in Tokyo she was behaving so impatiently, frequently losing temper, as I saw never before. And that was in the match against Marion which she won. I was both surprised and worried when I saw that. Now, her behavior in the match against Zheng confirms that that wasn't an isolated incident.

I am frankly seriously concerned. I have no idea what that can be. Is she undergoing some mental change related to her rapid transformation from a teenager into a woman? In any case, this is already having a seriously detrimantal effect on her game.

it's probably something chaky's suffered from also this year, aga has gone from hunting to the hunted. jie went out there going for it as shes expected to lose on paper and aga is expected to win. this is a totaly different pressure altogether and its something she will have to get used to. players gun for the big name players and go out there swinging. its always easier to be the up and comer than the seasoned top player. its just a bit of petulence and she will get past it.

I thought about Chakvetadze indeed. I nearly ended my post saying: I don't want her to become another Chakvetadze. (I restrained myself not to offend Anna's fans.) Except that I don't see that as going from hunting to being hunted. She never had mental problems of that kind. Unlike a lot of girls, Agnieszka is somebody who needs pressure to win against good opponents, she certainly is not killed by it.

Something is seriously bothering her: she lost all her cool she was so renowned for, already in Tokyo, as I wrote in my post. I was so surprised to see that. And that was in a match she won. In that match by the way, she committed double her usual number of UEs, and wasn't playing safe at all. She was hitting harder (and was also playing with less variety than usual). That is what reminded me of Anna.

I was saying this already for a while; Agnieszka is due for a slump. It is normal side effect of development. There is no way one can climb straight up and here you have it. I would not even be surprised with her impatience; she doesn’t like what is happening to her. She probably doesn’t even understand what is happening. If her dad/coach is smart he will help her get through this. I hope this will be a short slump, but you never know she may be done with this season. I will keep my fingers crossed that this is only very short blip. Go to the next tournament Agnieszka :)

And vera's YEC chances increase once again. If she makes the semifinal here she will lead aga by 4 points in the race.(i think) If aga doesn't watch out her yecspot could be snatched away before her eyes.

What a legend this Jie is, great potential. Future TOP 10!

Jie is playing great. She deserves a lot of credit. It isn't easy being the last home player still alive and Jie handled it really well. Yeah, I think it is looking pretty likely we will see Jie in the top 20 next year, and the top 10? Well I wouldn't be so sure about that but I wouldn't rule out the possibility either if Jie can maintain the consistancy she has shown these last few months. She's got a great game.

Zheng will win a Slam in 2009

Well she can certainly add to the two Doubles slams she has already won.

As for Aga, well it always looked like a tough draw. Aga isn't unbeatable. And as AndreConrad says she was due a bit of a slump. As far as her moodiness is concerned well she is in a tight race for making the YEC. That is a lot of pressuree that she hasn't previously experienced. And I certainly do not believe Aga doesn't feel pressure. She just hides it very well with her poker face normally. Let's not forget Aga is not the finished article yet, she is still improving but improvement doesn't take the shape of one straight upwards line. Aga will be fine. Providing she doesn't get another nasty draw next week I'm sure she will bounce back quickly.

Second top ten win for Jie in her career. Not too shabby.

I'm not surprised, but I didn't expect this either. Zheng did take Radwanska to three sets earlier this year in Dubai. I'm not worried about Radwanska either, but I certainly did want to see another good run. The race to YEC just got tighter if Vera can keep winning matches (not a given).

Good job Jie, definitely better than her win over Ana, in retrospect. What's Aga's next tournament?

That's the way to do it Jie ... I haven't decided whether I think Aga is a very good player yet. She has SOME wins but she may be slightly over-rated. To the ones saying she may be in a slump, how can you be in a slump when you've never really been on a roll.

Wow...never expected :( I thought she would at least battle.

Btw - I keep wondering why Agnieszka chose to play Beijing, as she complained a lot about the air pollution, and problems with breathing in Beijing during Olympics. She could have played Seoul instead - she would probably reach a final, or maybe semi-final there, and gain much more points.

Nothing against Radwanska, but I like Zheng and want her to do well. I'm also happy with this result because Zheng has helped Venus hold Agnieszka off for another week in the race to the YEC. :yeah: Now if Venus plays Stuttgart and Moscow like she's scheduled to, she can stay in the top 8

Aw man! Better luck next time Aga. She has been playing so consistently against players ranked below her lately that I expected her to reach the Quarters. The only positive thing from this is that Venus won't slide down the rankings anymore.

You two seem to be more optimistic than me.

Watching her against Marion in Tokyo I was really scared and surprised by the level of her impatience and bad temper. I never before saw her behaving like that. Never. And I saw a lot of her matches.
