I hope she doesn't play doubles because it's Moscow directly the week after and I don't want her to bee too tired for her home tournament.

I am sad that this will be tha last Stuttgart tournament - at least in the was it is now, indoor hard.

Yeah, I think I read somewhere on the forum that it's going to be indoor but the schedule for 2009 doesn't say anything about indoor/ outdoor yet (doesn't even say anything about the surface but this we already know for sure )

Every player has a fan club in Stuttgart

None of the players coming to Stuttgart for the Porsche-Tennis-Grand-Prix will be without the necessary support. The popular “Player’s Cheer Up” fan club campaign will again take care of that. Every player will be given their own fan club made up of 15 youngsters from clubs belonging to the Württembergischen Tennis-Bund (WTB) and the Badischen Tennis-Verband (WTB and BTV – the two regional tennis associations). As long as a player is left in the tournament their fan club will be given free entry so that they can be given loud vocal support and encouragement from the inventive banners. The response was again huge. As 70 clubs wanted to take part a ballot became necessary. TSG Backnang (Serena Williams), TA TV Oeffingen (Jelena Jankovic), TC Nagold (Elena Dementieva), TC Haiterbach (Dinara Safina) and TC RW Hochstetten (Venus Williams) were drawn the top favourites.

Dinara's first match will be against Tsvetana Pironkova who defeated Cornet 6-2 6-1.
They never played each other before.

In her career, Pironkova had wins over power players like Venus and Ana Ivanovic ( this year in Rome), also had stretched Serena to three sets before losing to her.

Good luck, Dina

Do they play tomorrow or on thursday?
hmm her opponent sounds formidable but dinara can do it hopefully!
I'm sending positivity to our favorite russian in the world through the power of telepathy...
******~~~~~~~~YOU WILL WIN YOUR MATCH AGAINST PIRONKOVA AND EVERY MATCH AFTER THAT UNTIL YOU WIN THE TITLE~~~~~~~~******
i think that should do it :)

Second set was scary, lol!!!

PersephoneDisco
Oct 2nd, 2008, 03:08 PM
Hmm well it was only cos from out of nowhere P's service action connected and she hit well loads of aces, so not a lot of opportunities to break her serve but Dinara did well to cope, she only had to work REALLY hard for the second set, the first set she worked hard to execute the shots perfectly and keep up level of concentration which everyone tennis player should be doing in every match, right? ;)

enchantrezz
Oct 2nd, 2008, 03:12 PM

Im well excited for the match tomoz, when is it on?
im reeeeeeeaally hoping its one of the later matches at around 5, cos ive got stupid maths and it crap at uni during the early matches! :(

Nina.
Oct 2nd, 2008, 07:56 PM
Great, she won :bounce:

She will play the 3rd match tomorrow, not before 5pm.
http://www.porsche-tennis.de/prod/pag/tennis.nsf/web/german-news_orderofplay

I am going to cross my fingers for her, it's going to be a tough one judging from what I have seen from Venus so far but when Dinara plays well she definitely can win.
And she and Krajan watched Venus today so they know what to expect.

PersephoneDisco
Oct 2nd, 2008, 08:37 PM
Heck shes 3 in the world she can handle any hurdle, venus's opponents have given up way too easily and i know dinara won't! Those william sisters *shakes fist!* Let's hope venus's cold gets aggrevated. Im glad the wind and the sun is not a factor in indoor events *hallelujah!*

We can be sure of one thing, Dinara will not give up without a fight! And im really happy i'll see the match once i come home from uni in its entirerity. Im a great believer in fate and when i got home today lo and behold eurosport showed me dinara warming up considering my schedule could have ment i got home 3 hours later! lady luck any one?
A round of 'davai dinara!' guys :)

i've no idea why Venus is the real favorite for almost everybody.
okay, seven time GS winner,... but our girl is the #3 in the world and won 43 of her last 48 matches. and it's indoors.
everything is possible.

Sok szerencsét Dina! (Good luck Dina!) :)

she looked so hopeless in the return games, barely won points. even Bondarenko was far better returner against Venus. :help:
And so slow. she looked faster at the US Open and Tokyo.
Better luck in Moscow!

V was great, deserves all credit today.
