So, she's in a long-term slide. Too bad.

I'm in no great a place myself...and I don't think I can help her.

I know she was having disputes with the label about which follow up single to use after "Feedback" but wow

I think this is a GOOD thing. She is a MEGA MEGA MEGA star, she doesnt NEED a label and for the past 6 years labels have not been of much help to her. if she releases her own album with her own quality distribution (and who would deny Janet) she could sell more than most are selling these days

Three albums with Island Def Jam and three flops.
They picked wrong single after wrong single.

It's time for her to go back to where she knows the hits are, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.

She needs to be back in control with advisement, not out of control with demands from her label.

I totally agree with her decision. Its time to move onto a company that will give her artistry the attention that it rightfully deserves. :bounce:

idj is a horrible company imo...
they destroyed janet, mishandled the many potential hit singles from mimi; and even their hottest star right now, rihanna, is facing bankruptcy... :o
way to screw up your artistes! :ras:

I'm pretty sure Discipline was the first album under Island Def Jam.

Anyway, good move to leave Def Jam. Even thought I thought this album was rubbish, there were still some good song that could have done well as singles. Unfortunately the record label just released the album and did nothing else with it.

janet is tired.

she hasn't done anything good since velvet rope, and even that didn't match janet.

i don't think it's anything a label can fix. i think the problem is her. she sings the same song over and over again - all of her music is starting to sound alike. she talks about her propensity for being tied up, blah blah blah. it's just not that interesting.

and, she's done the same live show for like 20 years. come on.

madonna is still viable because she makes things fresh. her music sounds different with almost every album. her music now is completely distinct from like a virgin and other stuff.

janet had leaps in musical direction from her early albums then to rhythm nation and then again janet. velvet rope was pretty much a continuation of janet. and everything is a continuation of janet and velvet rope. not exactly interesting.

basically, she's been in a rut because she refuses to change and prefers to play it safe. she's no longer a-list imo.

TVR is her best album

Rockwichu tour has NOTHING to do with her oldest tours. are u serious?she even changed some of her classic song moves like control. this urban myth is not working anymore

oh yeah Hard Candy sure is fresh i mean doing what nelly and Gwen steffi already did sure is bringing something new to the table ... Madonna is still big because she has the European market something that Janet and her dumbass team fail to see. they refuse to promote outside the USA thats why she is where she is right now. look at Pink and Anastacia they moved on to Europe and now pink gets her 1st #1 on BB charts.

The Velvet rope was a continuation of Janet album? Janet album was Janet releasing her inhibitions it was Janet growing up into a sexy and sexual woman while TVR was about her life , about her depression about domestic violence about her struggles. where are they similar? even the sound is dif. and lets not even talk about AFY DJ and specially 20 yo cuz they sound nothing alike. Feedback with no radio support got to #16 (label fucked it up by releasing the song way 2 soon).
playing safe? from all the pop icons this year she was the only one that tried to bring something fresh to the table , 2nite, rock with u , feedback ... hell she was the only one that cared to try to make a great video(even if ppl started to hate it after  )

and lets not talk about quality of the music cuz Rihanna is on top right now and uve had songs like laffy taffy's , flo rida crack that soudja boi etc rocking to #1. even Madonna needed Justin's help to get some radio support and still failed, the US radio refuses to show support to artists that are past 40, Mariah is about to suffer from this as well(she already started look at her latest singles)
