today Amanda Hopmans has to play her first round singles qualifying match. Seda Noorlander and Boogie also have to play qualifying.
Miriam is in the main draw. Everybody knows it's probably her last tournament.
So for all Dutch girls, GOOD LUCK AT THE US OPEN!!!

Well, naturally I hope that Hoppy, Boogie and Seda can all get through, and join Miriam in the main draw! Good luck to all! ;)

Miriam v Petra Mandula in first round ... hopefully she can win this. If so, she'll probably have to face Lindsay Davenport in round two.
Meanwhile, quallies are going on as I speak, and Seda has just (a few minutes ago) lost to Svetlana Kuznetsova   4-6, 6-7.
But good news, Hoppy beat Sandra Kloesel 7-6, 6-2. :) :) :)
Boogie is on court right now, against AnnaZaporozhanova, and she's doing well so far, having won the first set 6-3 and started the second set by holding serve in the first game. Keep it up, Boogie!! :) :)
Aug 21st, 2002, 10:39 PM
I can now bring you the happy news. Boogie, she's wonderful, and she's just won her match 6-3, 6-1. Happy days!! I just love it when she wins so easily!!
Aug 22nd, 2002, 04:43 AM
Yay! But poor Seda, and I suppose that's not a bad first round draw for Miriam, but Petra's been playing well the last few tourney's she's played in!
Aug 22nd, 2002, 08:54 PM
Boogie plays vs. Perebiynis today.
Good luck Boogie
Aug 23rd, 2002, 08:52 PM
Boogie beat Perebiynis yesterday ... but my computer was unable to connect with this web board for me to write my happy message. She won in straight sets again.
Meanwhile, today, she's playing her final-round qually match, against Maria Geznenge, whom I haven't heard of. The match only started about ten minutes ago and it's fairly level so far ... early stages. GOOD LUCK, BOOGIE!!
Aug 23rd, 2002, 08:54 PM
Boogie broke serve in the 6th game - now she's 4-2 ahead. Keep going!! ;)
Aug 23rd, 2002, 10:05 PM
Things aren't so rosy now - Boogie won the first set but lost the second, and she's in trouble in the third, trying valiantly to pull back after being 4-love down.
Aug 23rd, 2002, 10:28 PM

well she went 0-4 down in the third set but when she pulled back one break of serve I was hopeful ... but anyway in the end the score was 6-3 3-6 4-6. So Miriam stands alone in the main draw as regards Dutch women. Good luck to her!
Aug 24th, 2002, 05:41 AM
Only one Dutch woman in the MD pffffffffff  HUP MIRIAM!!!
Aug 24th, 2002, 09:49 AM
1 woman in the maindraw is bad, but lets not forget there are an amazing number of 6 men in the maindraw!!! (with bad draws :()
Good luck Miriam!
Good luck Sjeng, Richard, Raemon, Martin, Edwin and John!
Aug 27th, 2002, 09:13 AM
   that Miriam lost
And    because Richard retired
And  because Edwin lost
But :bounce: because John won! :)
And good luck today to Sjeng, Martin and Raemon, and Paul&Yevgeny! :)
Aug 27th, 2002, 10:00 PM
I'm so, so  because Miriam lost. Still hope to see her again, though...
But - Good luck in the doubles!!!
Aug 28th, 2002, 01:46 AM
Sjeng won! :D Verkerk's at 5 all first set with Roddick at the moment. Hope he can beat Roddick!!! :D
Aug 28th, 2002, 01:46 PM
No surprise, Verkerk lost, but not with a very bad score :)
Sjeng won, and Raemon won, and Paul&Yevgeny won, so it wasn't a bad day at all ;)
Caroline Vis plays doubles today, and so does Sjeng. Succes!!!!
Aug 30th, 2002, 04:39 PM
Miriam&Kristie are playing their 1st round right now.
They lost the first set 6-0, the second set is now 2-2.
Aug 30th, 2002, 04:49 PM
5-2 2nd for the Dutchies :)
Aug 30th, 2002, 04:54 PM
Miriam&Kristie won the 2nd set 6-2 :)
Aug 30th, 2002, 05:17 PM
Miriam and Kristie lead 4-1 in the final set against the #9 seeds :)
Aug 30th, 2002, 05:25 PM
It's 4-2, Miriam's serving.
It would be a suprise if they kicked out Krizan and Srebotnik!
Brilliant!! They've beaten the 9th seeds!!
They came from behind, having lost the first set as a bagel set, just like the first round when I was in Melbourne at the 2001 Oz Open cheering them on. Interestingly, that time, they won their second-round match too, but it was the second set that they lost 0-6.
So let's hope they can carry on, and beat Rubin/Zvereva (due to be played late on Saturday).
GO GIRLS! ;)
Aug 31st, 2002, 05:05 PM
Paul and Yevgeny beat Pavel/Vizner 6-2, 6-2 in their 2nd round match :)
Good job guys!
Sep 1st, 2002, 01:41 PM
Caroline and Alex lost in the 2nd round :(
Sep 1st, 2002, 01:46 PM
The juniors draw is out.
Bas van der Valk plays Laurent Recouderc from France in the 1st round. Michel Koning is the 16th seed, and plays his 1st match against Mexican Antonio Ruiz.
Elise Tamaela plays another Mexican, Marcela Arroyo, and 16th seed Silvana Bauer will play Anastasia Yakimava.
Sep 1st, 2002, 09:55 PM
For Miriam:
For Boogie:
I know they must have tried hard, but no, it's all over for them, and by now I suppose they must be heading back to Europe. Good luck next time! (if indeed there is a next time, tennis-wise, for Miriam!).
Sep 2nd, 2002, 07:55 PM
For Miriam probably not (sure not in New York), but I hope there will be a next time for Kristie!
Sep 2nd, 2002, 08:02 PM
come on Linda, think positive
Sep 4th, 2002, 04:22 PM
I try to, Frau Antje!
Only Tamaela managed to win her 1st round match :(
