Protoss

Maria should be able to win her 1st round in singles, but after that it gets tricky. Maria hasn't beaten a player ranked higher than #80 on hard court after the Australian Open and everybody she's likely to play in a potential path to the title is ranked higher than #80.

Good luck to Maria in Korea. :yeah:

I know a bit about Wienerova and while she's very talenetd and playing well lately, she really shouldn't bother Maria. Then you can never tell with Lucie. If she can get out of her quarter, a final looks very likely and we'll see how she can go from there. ;)

I probably just jinxed her, though. :o

There are many people in the draw that can beat her. Unless Maria finds her form this week, I don't see her doing well this tournament.

Nikkiri
Sep 22nd, 2008, 04:46 AM
Hmmm, I think she is more than capable off beating most players here, this is a good chance for her to get things going again. She's the top seed of this tier 4 she wants to be a top 15 player well then she has to beat these girls, and we should start believing she can. I like her chances. Good luck Maria.

I know she's not doing well lately, but a little support wouldn't harm.
If you're a fan anyway.
First it's a mistake to play Tokyo instead of Guangzhou and now she better not play at all in 2008? Now she's playing a Tier IV and you still complaining.

Rather support her and hope for a positive turn. Maria can do it and hopefully she will do it now.

Centre Court (from 11.00hrs)
1. Morita vs. Rus
2. Kirilenko vs. Wienerova
3. Pivovarova vs. Lee
4. Kanepi vs. Fujiwara
5. Chuang/Hsieh vs. Cetkovska/Wickmayer

I hope she'll do well this week to have more confidence for more important tournaments. She must win some points to finish the season with a good ranking and at least to be seeded for the Australian Open.

Woah...Maria won 6-2 6-0 against Wienerova in 1 hour 3 minutes. :)

Looking at the stats, Maria didn't do so well with her serve in the 1st set winnning only 53% of points on her 1st serve and getting broken in 2/4 service games. Maria did a lot better on her serve in the 2nd set winning 77% of points on her 1st serve and holding in all 4 of her 4 service games. She didn't even face a break point in the 2nd set.

Wienerova was broken in all 7 of her service games...ouch.

Maria plays Lucie Safarova next who won 6-1 3-0 retired against Melanie South.

Theres a stream but you have to sign up and its all in Korean :sobbing:

A live video stream is available for the Hansol Korea Open, but only to registered users of Naver, a Korean search engine. Unfortunately signing up, although free, is sure to be a headache for those who donít read Korean. For those who are brave enough to plough through the sign-up process with the help of an online translator, or are fortunate enough to have a Naver account already, the video stream can be accessed here. You can also click the link that says "Naver" in the front page of the Korean version of this website.

With Ana in her worst period, it's nice to see this result for Maria.
Then there's at least something to be happy about.
It was a long match, but still the score is very nice.
If she really has a better serve now, then there's really a reason to be positive.
Kanepi is really good lately, so I won't count for a win for Maria.
For sure I hope she does.

Wow, great news to wake up to! :woohoo:

Maria :worship: Glad I didn't follow the match though

I hope she's not too tired tomorrow, doubles still left to play today. And Stosur had a very easy win in the other semifinal.

Great to see Maria beating a good player!! I think that we expected that for a while:bounce:

Maria loves losing:rolleyes: when she scores more points than her opponent but this time, she scored less points than Kanepi.I don't know what happened to her 2nd serve but she has improved it a lot since the last weeks.

Now a final agains Stosur,it will be tough because Maria is playing doubles now,so she'll have played like 4 hours today. But,she can do it,she did the same in Estoril:worship:

Great win! :bigclap:

Can she copy Estoril, and suddenly rebounce from a long slump and win a tournament, when we least expect it?

Keep fighting like this in the final! :)

Another good win for Makiri. :clap2: It was a tough match as expected, but Makiri showed her toughness when she came back from down 0-2 in the third set. I think that this is the type of win that she needed to get. Also it was nice to see Makiri win her doubles match, which is a nice added bonus. Now she`s in the finals. Hopefully Makiri can do the title sweep for the second time this year tomorrow.

One thing I can see being a big problem in this match is Maria's level of focus and consistency. Maria often seems to have trouble staying focused in matches and that could prove very costly in this match cuz if she loses focus on her serve and gets broken it could very well be the set. Maria also seems to have problems maintaining a consistent level of play, so a drop in her level on her own service games could be very bad.

That was the 2nd time in the 1st set that Maria had a chance to break. She up was 1-0 and had a break point at 40-30 (there was another bp in that game but it was saved by an ace). At 2-5 1st set she was up 30-0 and had a bp at 40-30 with a 2nd serve but failed to convert again.

The 1st set was 38 minutes long.

Maria won only 53% (8/15) of points on her 1st serve in the 1st set while Stosur won 93% (14/15) of points on her 1st serve.

I don't think Stosur has that great a return of serve plus I think Maria has a better ground game than Stosur. So I don't get what's going on.

I'm very glad for Maria,she deserves it:worship:

This year,Maria is unbeatable in final:armed: .We can say that she's a serial choker but she never chokes in final:lol: (at least this year).

Stosur's serve is very hard and Maria broke her a lot of times:worship:

Maria proves us that she's still able to win a tournament on hard courts.

Well, now in Tokyo,if she's not too tired, she could do something great but it will be tough. She played difficult matches in Seoul.

It's nice to see Maria win a title on hard court instead of a clay court. :) That was a good comeback win for Maria over Stosur in the Hansol Korea Open final. I hope winning this title in clutch fashion gives Masha the confidence to finish the season strong. But we've been down this road before and Maria has slumped to end years after winning a title in the fall. I hope this year is different.
