What does Elena have to do to be #3?goldenlox Sep 18th, 2008, 04:01 PM Now that Ana is out, what does Elena have to do to be #3, and can Dinara get to #3 this week? Blanche Devereux Sep 18th, 2008, 04:15 PM Now that Ana is out, what does Elena have to do to be #3, and can Dinara get to #3 this week? If Elena makes the semis she will pass Ana. Dinara has to make it to the final to pass Ana. Elena and Dinara can be some combination of 3 and 4 at the end of Tokyo. goldenlox Sep 18th, 2008, 06:21 PM So both Lena and Dinara could be at career highs Monday. Kworb Sep 18th, 2008, 06:27 PM If Elena wins her next match she is #3 unless Dinara gets further in the tournament than her. Come on Elena. DragonFlame Sep 18th, 2008, 06:54 PM í'm so hoping for that career-high. Uranium Sep 18th, 2008, 06:59 PM Elena for #2:p:rocker: I really hope she passes Ana:bounce: Malva Sep 18th, 2008, 07:00 PM Short answer: continue winning matches. I don't see why she can't even become #1. After all she is right now capable of beating anybody. goldenlox Sep 18th, 2008, 07:05 PM #1 has been a long time goal of Elena's. Definately getting very close to it. SIN DIOS NI LEY Sep 18th, 2008, 07:06 PM I think for some strange reason that Elena will never improve the number 4 as career highest rank :tape: miffedmax Sep 18th, 2008, 07:07 PM Forget #3. Elena could easily be number one by dropping her mortal guise and appearing as the supreme goddess she is, smiting her opponents with Olympian thunderbolts. Unfortunately, she's just too sporting to take advantage of her divine status. DragonFlame Sep 18th, 2008, 07:08 PM She really has a great chance if she defends moscow point/wins another tier1(hope here). Before dubai elena doesn't have that much to defend. If she can just improve her results in australia(which has sucked over the years, but i can't see why not with this form) she's 1 of the maincontenders for #1. She was only 2 matches away already. LudwigDvorak Sep 18th, 2008, 07:16 PM Ideal for Tokyo: Kuznetsova def. Jankovic Dementieva def. Srebotnik Kanepi def. Safina Petrova def. Radwanska (doesn't really matter) Dementieva def. Kuznetsova Petrova/Radwanska def. Kanepi Dementieva def. Petrova/Radwanska She'd then have 3790, while JJ would have 3894. But then JJ will be playing four weeks in a row after that, so it kind of makes no difference so Elena has no shot at getting above #3 this year. :o But I'll accept #3. Hopefully she can do it with a title here. Kworb Sep 18th, 2008, 07:20 PM She really has a great chance if she defends moscow point/wins another tier1(hope here). If she can just improve her results in australia(which has sucked over the years, but i can't see why not with this form) she's 1 of the maincontenders for #1. She was only 2 matches away already. She'll also get some YEC points, at least 105. Unfortunately Jelena doesn't have much to defend until the Australian Open, so Elena will need to win some of these tournaments. zveeen Sep 18th, 2008, 07:20 PM come on Elena :) Edinboro Sep 18th, 2008, 07:23 PM Do you guys think that Elena will play even better in 2009? I think its capable but with Sharapova coming back?? =O DragonFlame Sep 18th, 2008, 07:34 PM She'd then have 3790, while JJ would have 3894. But then JJ will be playing four weeks in a row after that, so it kind of makes no difference so Elena has no shot at getting above #3 this year. Jelena Jankovic could burn out like last year. And it's not like she's unbeatable, if elena does well in both tokio and moscow she has a great shot. Right now i'm just focusing more on elena accumilating more points then she ever has. If she accumulates more points the chances for her to get that higher ranking increase A LOT. If we leave jankovic out of the picture for now... If elena makes the semifinal here she would already have more points accumilated then her whole fall season last year outside of moscow. Elena last year: Moscow = 430 points Stuttgart+Beijing+Zurich = 146 points Total = 576 Elena this year: Tokio QF = 110 points If she makes SF she will have 195 points. That's 33.9% of her points from last year. With this tournament she would already have 1/3 of her points from last year. Counting YEC 4th place points she would have(if she plays she will already have 105 points to add!!!) : 300 points. (gives 50.2%) So if elena wins her next match she will already have half her points from last year RIGHT NOW! And then we still possibly have: (not counting quebec, she's a nut if she plays there) Rest of tokio Stuttgart Moscow Luxembourg Rest of YEC  I see loads of potential. LudwigDvorak Sep 18th, 2008, 07:38 PM I'm just focused on Srebotnik right now. She's a threat and did beat Elena the last time they met. Until Elena's in the semifinals here, I'm not letting my guard down. If she is, then I can relax my shoulders a bit...#3 would almost be certain then, at least. Malva Sep 18th, 2008, 07:44 PM I think for some strange reason that Elena will never improve the number 4 as career highest rank :tape: South American fatalismo is speaking through you, my friend. It never looked brighter for Elena. Even I am getting excited at her prospects of becoming #1. DragonFlame Sep 18th, 2008, 07:44 PM I'm just focused on Srebotnik right now. She needs this semi for good chances. Malva Sep 18th, 2008, 07:47 PM exactly, this next match is crucial. A loss to srebotnik is unacceptable right now. She needs this semi for good chances. Strangely, I am absolutely confident concerning her match against Srebotnik. Tala Igasho Sep 18th, 2008, 07:55 PM A backflip Cp6uja Sep 18th, 2008, 08:51 PM BAD NEWS: If she not reach #3 in Tokyo her chances to do that in 2008 is very poor b/c she will not playing at Beijing unlike Dinara and Ana, and than in october becoming cut-off Moscow title points (unlike Jelena and Safina which not defending almost anything from 2007). Also, problem with "Tokyo #3 mission" is that Safina road to final is right now wide open, and Elena will have very tough opponent in semifinal (JJ probably, or comeback-Sveta). GOOD NEWS: Carpet is actualy Elena's best surface... both her 2 career tier-I titles (Tokyo and Moscow) is at carpets and she is actualy only WTA player ever together with Hingis which have both carpet tier-I titles. So Tokyo is probably Elena's last shot for #3 this season - but very good shot. LudwigDvorak Sep 18th, 2008, 08:59 PM she is actualy only WTA player ever together with Hingis which have both carpet tier-I titles. You make that sound amazing, but few top players have even competed at both tournaments consistently, particularly Moscow (and let's not forget Hingis/Davenport dominated Tokyo) so it's not that great of an achievement. But yes, this is probably her last chance this year, unless she wins a couple of titles after Tokyo. Kworb Sep 18th, 2008, 10:25 PM Carpet - battlefield of the Gods. :hearts: Matt01 Sep 19th, 2008, 12:42 AM GOOD NEWS: Carpet is actualy Elena's best surface... both her 2 career tier-I titles (Tokyo and Moscow) is at carpets and she is actualy only WTA player ever together with Hingis which have both carpet tier-I titles. I think its capable but with Sharapova coming back?? =O You are assuming two things, that ElenaD cannot im[prove and that Maria will hit form immediately, who knows if she does not continue to struggle for a while. Cp6uja Sep 19th, 2008, 02:15 PM Tokyo is on hard this yearI don't think that Tokyo this year is played on carpet :pThat only means NO GOOD NEWS FOR DEMENTIEVA :p :p :p I think Lena today waste her chances to reach TOP3 in next atleast 4 months, but her next big shot will be in Australia, where she defending just R4. waratahsrock Sep 19th, 2008, 09:31 PM For Elena to get to #1, 2 or 3 she'd have to hope the top 3 players drop dead. She obviously wont get there from winning matches on merit. :haha: losing to Srebotnik :spit: Dodoboy. Sep 19th, 2008, 10:02 PM :haha: A bit premature Lena fans ;) goldenlox Sep 19th, 2008, 10:07 PM It's not premature. When Ana lost, I asked what Lena had to do this week. If you read the 1st post, I also asked what Dinara had to do to reach #3, and she can still do it. They both couldn't get there this week. Dodoboy. Sep 19th, 2008, 10:10 PM I guess you were just asking really  I am bored and it's nearly midnight, pay me no attention! Fidello Sep 19th, 2008, 10:31 PM She needs to hire a proper coach. Of course, mommy Vera is cheap but girl, don't be so stingy Aravanecaravan Sep 19th, 2008, 10:34 PM Hire somebody to "Tanya Harding" a few of the players who are better than her? goldenlox Sep 19th, 2008, 11:05 PM Lena won the Olympic Gold and was in the semis in the last 2 slams. No need for Tanya. Lena will use her racket to give beatdowns.
