Oh la la, Ana . Way too many mistakes and a very inconsistent display. Nadia played pretty well overall, her serve worked so then she could put all the pressure on Ana who looks very low on confidence. I had the impression of watching Tati after her injury-break. So many up and downs...
But I agree, this is not a bad loss at all.

Congrats to Nadia :yeah:.

Don’t give-up Ana:angel:, season is not over... i hope she will rise at end like Maria at YEC 2007 after several very bad matches and results in the row.
First set is just pathetic (Ana with ZERO winners in whole set), but after Ana show some signs of recovering (I mean in 2nd set).
This surface actualy very suits to Ana… but some next time…

Nadia's toilet break was the turning point. And the only time when Ana could have turned it around was at 1-3 0-40, when she took it back to deuce and if she had held, she would have won. But she didn't...

This excuse is so poor. If they are professionals they should be mentally prepared to face the toilet breaks of the opponents. The players that complaint about this are very weak mentally.

And you contacted Nadia's bladder and confirmed this, right? You are just ridiculous. Defending you fav like this just discredits her. If she cannot manage a toilet break (and i really think that was not the reason for her lost) is not just she does not deserve to win the match but to ever be number 1.

Better reason? I doubt. I agree, however, that such breaks all too frequently are employed as a tactical device, or in blunt words, gamesmanship.

Still, Ana being a professional player should not be affected by toilet breaks between the sets. If she is as she seems to be (the same happened in her match against Paszek), then it is a worrying sign that her game is very unstable, at least at the moment.

This may be a passing feature in her game which she may eventually overcome when she matures.

:haha: This comment made me almost pee my pants. Cp6uja knows now even the most intimate facts (I hope I figured correctly from the poor attempt at spelling). Give it a rest man, bathroom break is part of the game, like it or not

On the serious side I disagree with some statements that Ana is okay. She may be physically okay, but not mentally and "mental injury" is not less serious than physical one. Ana has really hard time dealing with the pressure of being top player escalated by series of losses so she feels even more pressure to win. The worse part of all of this is that Ana doesn't admit it and admission is required in the healing of mental issues. I really hope she'll be able to address it.

I don't see the current situation as some sort of `mental injury'. Such an explanation is simply far fetched. There is a much simpler plausible explanation: Ana is much more mature physically than mentally: this happens all the time with teenage girls. Technically she may not be a teenager anymore but in her mental development she still may be. Thus I am not terrible worried about her in the future. She will mature and sooner or later overcome her present mental fragility.

This is why I put the injury in quotes; it still is a weakness however. I like your line of thought about the cause of it, but I still believe that the situation needs to be addressed quickly because it may turn into injury and become more difficult to deal with.

Predictably, Petrova proceeded to take a bathroom break immediately before the deciding set. Any momentum that Ana had at that time evaporated thanks to her opponent's questionable sportsmanship, although the Russian did not act outside the rules.

That's what differences good players from average players, that they can maintain the momentum even if the opponent has a toilet break. As you said it is in the rules, I cannot understand why people question it so much. It's like if when playing doubles a player throws the ball to the body of the one at the net. Is it questionable? Maybe it is but is part of the game, deal with it.

This loss doesn't worry me though. She's just recovered from an injury, so it's a big positive that that's out of the way. She's also finally pain free.

wouldnt it be better to see it the other way around? if a bathroom break brings back her form, then why not.

well she always doing that against the best players who like the rythme. She uses the "false excuse" of bathroom break to let them think about the match. When she come back in the court she take ALL her time.:o
I dont like this, there are others who are doing this and it works.:(

Oh please, give me a break.

Didn't Améle do this to Maria in Wimbledon between the 2nd and 3rd set when she was being bossed around?

Anyways, good win Nadia. I know you beat a higly overrated player but that's still fine, you can still get it!:)

I think you forgot how good amélie was playing during that wimbledon, even if sharapova won the second set, no way she could beat her that day so stop telling her "supposed in purpose break" between the 2nd and 3rd set made great difference to final result of this match:rolleyes:
oh yes I forgot how good grasscourt player sharapova became since then:help: she bossed everything around yeah:lol:

Since winning the French Open, Ana is only 4-4 (should be 3-4 but got lucky with the net against Dechy) so I would not put this in the embarrassing category compared to Coin and Zheng. Also, Nadia has played better as 2008 rolled along.

I'm just saying that when your faves use their TACTICS, you don't mention it whereas when the other players do, you call it out and whine about it. Your hypocrisy kind of matches Eurosport France comentators' regarding French players. Oh well:o

And, don't even dare to compare Mauresmo to Maria, you'll lose in every department ;):wavey:

for a player like ivanovic who is looking for recovering her confidence it has its importance yes.
We know how sensitive girls are. Every detail is important especially for her who is a young player.
Petrova had to do and try that. That worked, good for her.

Spot on :yeah:

I know there's a lot of hate for Ivanovic on here (not quite sure why) but Ana's recent slump is quite disappointing for tennis in my opinion. Why? Of course you're totally entitled to your opinion, but I'm curious as to what you're basing it on. How is the tour effected if say, Petrova plays wells, and Ivanovic slumps, or vice versa?

So if Ivanovic continues to suck, you need to apologize for calling Petrova using gamesmanship, because Petrova's toilet break wouldn't be considered making any difference. You are a hypocrite if you don't.
