Eighth top 20 win this year (#11-#20), and eighth bagel as well. :hearts:

QF against either Kata or Fran will be very interesting...

I <3 you Alize but you lost to the better player today, no shame in that.

Why do you guys keep starting threads as the match progress or making a poll and then make another thread with the results twice?...Can you just go to the original poll?. And then post the results in there. I want to read all but its too confusing to follow.

Yes that's good for such a young player.AT that age dementieva had O win over top10 so lets wait some time before criticize talented player such as cornet. She has real room for improvement.

Cornet's 18 and nine months old. Elena had a slam semifinal and silver medal with five top ten wins by the time she was eighteen and eleven months old.

Don't be too rude, Lena is a legend, not every players can equal or be close of what a legend has archived at a young age. :p

lol I still looking at these 5 top10 wins. And you are talking about us open where she reached semi finale but who did she beat?no one,the real opposition she had was on semi finale against davenport and she got beaten in straight sets.
The same with the olympic games, the only great player she had to play was venus williams and she lost again in straight sets.
No really that doesnt impress me especially when I check her results after that great year they are not as good as you say.Nothing extraordinary. Have to wait 2004, she was 22 to reach her first slam finale and what a finale.OMG that serve... you're right she'became a legend cause she reinvent the serve:help:

no seriously, alize is 18(dont care about the months),she is improving at her rythme, henin was not that good when she was that age, dont speak about jankovic but its ok especially when you look at her ranking now.
Being very good at very young age is not a sign of being assured to stay on the top and win everything.
Some needs to mature more and dementieva is the example of that, she is right now playing the best tennis of her carreer.Good for her and her fans but please stop despise new players when they just start their carreer. Its not good cause dementieva was also at that place so;):wavey:

To me that just reeks of blowing so much potential. Years have passed since then, and still no meaningful achievement at a Grand Slam. Normally the cream rises to the top, Elena stagnates.

lol I still looking at these 5 top10 wins. And you are talking about us open where she reached semi finale but who did she beat?no one,the real opposition she had was on semi finale against davenport and she got beaten in straight sets.

Huber and Martinez are good wins. And she beat Pierce (despite being a retirement) and Sanchez-Vicario that year as well, along with Venus Williams the year prior, so that's five. Cornet has two. Elena had a pretty good record against top players in her first two years on tour.

A month after the Olympics Elena beat Lindsay, so it's not like she rolled over and died to "real" players.

USO SF, IW SF, OG F, YEC SF, and several other TII/TI QFs and SFs in 2000 is really good to me. Elena almost made it to the top ten because of it (probably would have if OG had counted for any points). If Cornet becomes top 12 this year, hats off to her. I'm merely saying that Elena's results were better than Alize's up to this point. They weren't that different in ages and you said Elena had ZERO top ten wins, when she had far bigger wins than what Cornet's had so far.

The same with the olympic games, the only great player she had to play was venus williams and she lost again in straight sets.

Dokic, particularly in that era, was a good win. But yes, her Olympic run wasn't astounding, but she was the first female Russian medalist for tennis--that accounts for something. No one expected her in that final.

No really that doesnt impress me especially when I check her results after that great year they are not as good as you say.Nothing extraordinary. Have to wait 2004, she was 22 to reach her first slam finale and what a finale.OMG that serve... you're right she'became a legend cause she reinvent the serve:help:

Please tell me Cornet's extraordinary results. I fail to see the relevance of this part, but if I must point out the fairly obvious one, is her run in Amelia Island in 2003. But yeah, she struggled from 2001-2003. Lots of players had sophomore slumps. My original point anyway is just that you're making Cornet out to have better/equal results to Elena's when she was 18, when that's rather not the case at all.

no seriously, alize is 18(dont care about the months),she is improving at her rythme, henin was not that good when she was that age, dont speak about jankovic but its ok especially when you look at her ranking now.

I like Cornet. I used to hate her, yeah, but I like her now. I'm not trying to diss her, but when I see someone make statistical errors about my baby, I'm not going down without a fight. :)

To me that just reeks of blowing so much potential. Years have passed since then, and still no meaningful achievement at a Grand Slam. Normally the cream rises to the top, Elena stagnates.

Two finals and four semifinals is good to me. She could have done better, but I haven't given up hope yet. If anything less than winning a slam isn't a meaningful achievement, then at least Elena's in fairly good company.

Elena's just a weird case in tennis. She doesn't fit the mold, and that's what I like most about her. [/end rant]
