big as in gamewise or sizewise?

Both. Not Top20, she has nothing besides just hitting the cover off the ball.

i heard that she works with nutritionist now, so she is losing weight as well

I like her too. She has some good weapons. She's already beaten players like Cibulkova, Schnyder, Chakvetadze (x2), A.Bondarenko, Medina Garrigues, Pennetta (x2), Razzano (x2)...she has a very bright future.:)

What makes you think so? Beating slumping Chakvetadze? I can't recall anything spectacular about Kanepi since Roland Garros.

Yeah she definitly has the potential to be top 20, she has a very complete game and good brain, she's just affraid and already missed a few opportunities, like for example against Clijsters in Hasselt!

This thread has been featured on the biggest Estonian sporting-news website: http://http://www.sportnet.ee/artikkel/75255 (http://www.sportnet.ee/artikkel/75255)

Many of your comments have been translated- just shows you how much interest we take in Kaia´s actions here in Estonia :)
Also what you might not know- she departed from her coach just 3-4 weeks ago saying that the personalities didnt match. Giacopelli has said that there is something strange going on and this probably wasnt Kaia´s decision but someone "in the background"...

I had no idea that they split up? any certain reason? does she have a new coach?
kanepi seemed ok on courts though.

No, she doesn't have a new coach yet. And the circuimstances behind the split-up are very strange. Kaia, who just a few months ago said that Giacopelli is like the perfect coach for her and they work together very well, is now saying that she discontinued their partnership because they didn't match on a personal level

According to herself, no. She's all alone.

She hits the ball like a buffalo, when she played Serena at Wimbledon she was seriously out-hitting her for most of the match tbh. Of course, comes huge power comes huge inconsistency and that will be her struggle. To hit so hard, but to gain some kind of control. I mean she hits with virtually no spin on the ball at all, so it makes it harder to reign her shots in. However when she's on, it's spectacular.

Her fitness is an issue, but that obviously can be rectified and improved. I look forward to keep seing her progress:)

I'd love for Kaia to keep on climbing the rankings. :) I'll admit that I haven't seen too much of her on TV, but I like the fact that Estonia has such a good player, and I wish her all the best...

I wish I had some knowledge of Estonian - I sent an email to an Estonian website last week as I was looking for an Estonian language album! I'm not sure they actually got the mail, though... :o

If she can get fitter I don't see why she can't be top 20 at least. She should look to Dinara Safina for inspiration as to how much fitness can improve one's game.

i hadn't seen much of kanepi on tv until this year and wow! she can really smack the ball! i was impressed with how she really goes after the ball and doesn't hesitate. if she got a little fitter and more consistent, she could be a huge threat. actually, the improved fitness itself would probably lead to greater consistency as i don't see any major weaknesses in her game.

I think she is one of the most underrated players in the top40 :)
If she is playing well she is really dangerous.
No doubt she will make top20 some day in her career

I'm very impressed by her and I'm sure she will achieve something even greater than her QF at Roland Garros. She still needs to improve some parts of her game, but I'm sure it will come :)

I think she has top 20 potential. There is something very pleasant about her persona, too.

Afraid? I don't see much fear in her. Ever.

I don't think she has a complete game. But top 20? Yes. She has a very powerful ground game. Strong on both sides.

Latest "rumor" that hit the radio this morning is that there might have been a love-triangle behind the reason Giacopelli was fired  This would explain a strange comment Giacopelli gave: "On the 3rd of September, after the tournaments in the States, I saw Kaia happy and well. She was totally ready to hit the tournaments starting in Asia. But on the next day I met a totally different person- unslept, negative Kaia. It seemed like she had had a meeting evening before with somebody that influenced her a lot.

So the saga continues and the truth may never be spoken but it doesnt matter if she can get her stuff together.

Really? Pablo Giacopelli is Catalina Castano's coach, so that would explain why Cata and Kaia play doubles together a lot. Maybe it has something to do with Catalina's slump????

I watched her match against Razzano. Kaia was solid, her powerful ground strokes from both sides doing much damage to Virginie who was more aggressive but lacking precision. Kanepi sealed her victory emphatically with an ace on her first MP.
