Britney's been preey active on the music side for someone whos's crazy...

Hilary Duff has a best of? Wtf? She hasn't even had one good song yet.

I'm most looking forward to kelly Clarkson's new effort. I liked My december, but the songs were a little bit samey and she complained about men too much. Hopefully the new album will be more varied lyrically.

i don't like those artists you listed but I agree with that statement. It really pisses me off to see people be so sucessful in this industry (it especially happens with females) when they are just talentless sluts. Ok Miley Cyrus isn't a slut but she's talentless. And she really shouldn't be making millions, no.. Its like Brie Whitehead winning a Grand Slam. :o

JoJo should be in Miley Cyrus' position. I mean shes sold like 5m albums which is great but when comparing her with some of her contemparies (even though she beats just about all of them) esp. like Cyrus and Vanessa Hudgens, she should be making 10x more than them.

I'm a huge Alanis fan, but I was so disappointed with her last album. One of her lesser ones of her career

I used to be Alanis' biggest fan mid-late 90s, still a huge fan but got so tired of waiting for new stuff I sort of moved on.

The last Alanis track that I've heard and really loved was 'Simple together'. That song is pretty powerful, I remember I first heard it - I'd had a rough night out before (well a great night, that ended badly - but not really inline with the song's context)... ANYWAY  - the way she painted the emotions - they way she generally does - it's why I love her, as well as her awesome voice.

Do you know Guy Sigsworth? Well, if you know his stuff.. her album sounds like that mostly. "Not as We" is a MUSTLISTEN however. Other than that, it's disappointing if you are used to her older stuff. It reminds me of Madonna a bit.. which is not good. I also like "Underneath" the single and a few other ones. Maybe I'm being a little harsh since I was hoping for something really good  but it just sounds a less like Alanis than most of her stuff to me.

I'm listening to 'Not as we' on youtube... :sobbing: She really has a way with metaphors.

Overall, I've stuck with Alanis through her 'transitions'. I've generally found her stuff progressively disappointing... at first anyway, but I just love her a lot that I keep listening and the stuff really does grow on me. E.g. At first I really couldn't stand Under rug swept - but there are some days that I just have to listen. It's hard to explain, I probably making it more complicated as usual, but I tend not to love the sounds initially - but the stories, the pictures she paints etc... I have unconditional live for. She pours it all out, and keeps it pretty raw.

Right, I'll go look up Guy Sigsworth. Thanx Aces :D

No prob. Guy Sigsworth, I sshould have explained is the producer. He has worked with Madonna, Bjork and was part of Frou Frou I believe. He has experimental pop sounds mainly.

And I know exactly how you feel. I bought Flavors of Entanglement anyway and I have all her songs from every album pretty much  Even if I dont necessarily listen to a song, the lyrics are usually powerful enough to make me like it eventually.

How do I explain this? When you play your own musical instruments on your recordings you have a profound influence on the sound and style of the final recording. Most of the these girls are just singers who simply do what their producers tell them to do and who's music is adorned by what is known in the trade as session musicians. The result being something that simply isn't as genuine or honest or real as music made by real musicians who have an emotional attachment to what they are recording.

Actually if you get your facts right Britney has written a few of her hits, obviously at the start of her career there was no emphasis on her songwriting but by her "Britney" album she was contributing to most of her albums. Everytime (considered her best song vocally) was written by her.

Granted during the "Blackout" era she hardly contributed lyrically, but she was suffering from undiagnosed bipolar disorder, but for her "Circus" album she has stated that she is heavily involed in the songwriting!!!

I thought a musician was someone who aside from being able to sing, was actually able to play a musical instrument.

Britney can play the piano and has done so during her concerts!!!

BTW I'm not saying Brit's the most talented, deepest artist ever, I'm just correcting a few erroneous misconceptions.

flavors of entanglement comes in 2 different versions, a normal 1 cd album or a 2 cd deluxe set (i have both :o). anyway there are some real gems on both, if you like metaphors then youtube 'orchid' in which shes 'treated like a rose as an orchid'. also theres a great b-side called 20/20 which was released with the lead off single 'underneath' it is also a beauty if you love alanis metaphors and insight, with lines like 'this fountain of regret, this looking back with 20/20, Torturous hindsight if i knew then what i know now, this mountain of remorse, wont repeat with my understanding, This wouldn’t have happened if i knew then what i know now'

flavors isn't alanis's best work (though not as we is truely breath taking and the 2nd single, the video will be released soon), it realy is still better than 95% of whats released today.

as for the person who said 'don't have music snobbery, this thread is about blah, blah, blah' please do shut up. if the thread starter had a wider selection of albums to choose from and not just media whores, then i might be able to pick something i liked.

I am not the one who has had nothing to say on-topic. Make your own thread if you want to ask if people are more excited about Alanis or Cheryl or whoever. They are not in the poll. It's really that simple. It's like going into a "Who's Greater? Seles or Serena?" and proceeding to talk about the career of Sabatini.

The OP picked some upcoming albums by a few well-known artists. Alanis' dicography has nothing to do with it, I'm pretty sure her album has already been released and is not "upcoming" either. There was a thread about her album before I believe as well, go dig it up, create a new one, or just "please do shut up."

Could you stay halfway civil? I wasn't even trying to be offensive besides my quoting your "just do shut up," and even then I was just joking about it.

My only problem is people with a holier-than-thou attitude have come into this thread, looked down on the artists mentioned, and proceeded to circle-jerk about how much more amazing the artists they like are. You could have just shown a little more respect for the simpletons who enjoy Britney and P!nk and tried to stay somewhat on topic.

I also do realize I am starting to defeat my own purpose by doing this, so this will be my last post about this. So :wavey: and I just hope you realize there is a "New Topic" button for a reason.

This thread is clearly for the excessive Divas of the music industry. Of course I'm more looking forward to a new Joanna Newsom album than Britney's, but who the hell would want to discuss that with me?

We need some excessive-diva time!
Actually, I'm not sure of many new albums coming out this fall, none of my favourite artists anyway, so sadly Britney's may be my most-looked forward to at the moment. Yikes.

P.S. Hilary Duff with a Best Of? Are you fucking kidding me?

The tennis equivalent of this would be Brie Whitehead releasing an autobiography. :o

To be honest, I'd actually be interested in Brie's experiences on Tour. :tape:

I think playing a instrument is overrated. Big whoop you can play a guitar, your still not as talented as someone who can sing, and write songs to me.
so would you say ashley simpson and hillary duff are more talented than guitarists like let's say.... Tom Morello, Slash and John Frusciante? :p

Well, neither Ashley Simpson or Hilary Duff can sing so they're ruled out of that argument instantly.

I hate people who have such an elitist attitude when it comes to music. Just because they like supposedly "edgy" music, they think they can shit all over mainstream pop calling it garbage, and only for the brainless. :o

Probably kelly, but as long as it's like her breakaway album, the my december one wasn't so good. Then probably pink or britney.

Wow, make an elitist statement in your first line, and then go on to say how you hate elitists.
I would say that Ashlee Simpson's latest album interested me more musically than all the other albums on this list, not that she doesn't rehash used ideas, but I appreciate her bringing them into Pop music.
She's not all that bad.

How is saying Ashley Simpson can't sing an elistist statement? It's not. Merely a fact.

I never said I didn't like her music, but her lack of vocal abilities have been well documented.

Britney Spears can't really sing either. Is that an elitist statement too?

I thought a musician was someone who aside from being able to sing, was actually able to play a musical instrument.

SHUCKS to being able to play an instrument!

A musician is not 'just' someone who can play an instrument, big whoop you can play the guitar or Piano. Those girls have mastered my favourite instrument.

VOICE :)

Brandy is just too good for words!

Currently listening to her last album :sobbing:

Okay, then if that's not an elitist statement, then neither is the other peoples statements that were apparently "elitist" as well.
You find that, in your opinion, Hillary Duff and Ashlee Simpson have no vocal ability.
Others have stated that mainstream pop lacks creativity.

Neither are elitist in my opinion. But if you label the latter as elitist then aren't they both very similar? I'm pretty sure I've heard Ashlee's voice, and I'm pretty sure you'd classify that as singing, no matter how off-key she may go at times.

Stating that mainstream pop lacks creativity, is a matter of opinion.

Stating that Ashley Simpson/Hilary Duff can't sing, is a matter of fact. I'm talking about having a talent or singing here which is why it was brought up in the first place.

Agree. Frankly, I would never criticise a singer for singing offkey. Some of my alltime favourite singers sing offkey all the time. I like offkey singing. Very often singers with with fragile delicate offkey nonprofessional voices can comunicate emotions far more effectively than someone with a big strong professional voice. Daniel Johnston > Michael Bolton. Julie Doiron > Celine Dion.

Exactly.
The human side to it adds so much more to the music.
If I wanted perfect, on-key vocals....well, I don't really think that's what music is about.
