This is great news actually. Easily the best win of Romina's comeback and the first real indication that there is a decent chance that this comeback could start to really gain momentum. Disappointing loss for MEC fans yes, but I think even they would acknowledge that while this a huge win for Romina with really positive implications, for MEC it isn't a disaster, just an opportunity missed and a week that would be best forgotten.

I saw Romina a few weeks ago and she wasn't playing badly, but for MEC it's just another horrible loss in a downright horrible season.

Seems to me overall Maria-Elena's results have been getting a bit better lately. She has been successful in the last four events she entered qualies (inc two Slams) and since Barcelona in early June this loss to Romina is only her 2nd to a player ranked lower than her. And she has absolutely no points to defend for the rest of the year so with that in mind she really should be able to pull her way back in to the top 100 by the end of the year. It should only take maybe 80 ranking points. She probably should be playing on hard rather than clay at the moment though.
