Voilà you said it all! :D
I always wondered if people's expectations about Kirilenko just came from her beauty ... because Maria has not really the game to beat an in-form Marion. Not consistent enough and not enough variations. She has this game that Marion loves crushing with her powerful strokes. No surprises here .

Well done Marion :yeah:.

o.k. she had a good Tier I (Montreal) and Tier II (Stanford) run when everyone was slumping where she beat Chakvetadze twice and no player with a ranking higher than 33

Look at her stats : many closed defeats in 3 sets.

His father explained they are working on a new game project. If you have enough time, you can read his father's interview translated in english here : http://marionbartoli.blog.co.uk/2008/09/11/an-interview-with-the-innovater-2b5a578e4ecd56b557c7a67268eddcc5-4714731

She also had semis at GDF open and Eastbourne, a 4th round at USO beating Davenport and was quite consistent since the grass season (after having an horrible start of the year).
Anyway, at the moment she is a better player than someone like Kirilenko imo.

Stella's clothes still look better on Maria than they would on practically any other girl on the tour. I don't think Stella will be taking her money anywhere else. That said, I'm sure Ms. McCartney would appreciate an occassional win now and then too.

she never goes far at an event and doesnt seem to be confident:rolleyes:

Aside form her surprisingly good clay results, Maria hasn't played well this year since the Australian Open, no question. But I'm sure photographers still manage, during her brief appearances at tournaments, to take more photos of her than all but a few of the elite players. At the end of the day that is what would matter to Stella McCartney.

Look at this board, Maria has one of the biggest followings amongst non top 10 players in this forum. I actually think Stella made a very clever decision picking Maria Kirilenko as her the face of Stella McCartney's tennis line. On top of this it should be added that while Kirilenko is unlikely to ever be a top 10 player, she is capable of playing to a higher standard than she is at the moment.

Still it shouldn't surprise anyone when Maria loses to Bartoli. Bartoli is a better player, even if I will bet 90% of the cameras in this match were aimed Maria's way.

We have diffrent definition of being good :tape: her last match in YEC against Henin was demonstration how good she is.She was also good when she bagelled Aga last year in Stuttgart.

Vs Hénin during YEC, everybody knows that she was called to play very late due to Serena's retirement. She wasn't ready to play. And the day after, she won first set 6-1 vs Janko. These matchs have no sense at all.

She is currently on fire. And her next match against Aga will be very interesting.

There are different criteria for evaluating players it's true. From this post it would seem you like to assess players based on how they play at their lowest level. In other words based on consistancy and never playing too poorly... i.e. you are only as good as your worst result.

Personally I prefer to evaluate a player based on how well they are capable of playing at their best even if that is a level they do not always reach and in many players normal do not reach.

Of course by my criteria I regard pretty much everyone in the top 100 as a good player as they are all able to put together good performances of a sort on their day.

What about the beatdown she gave Henin at Wimbledon in that final set? How many players totally dismiss Justine Henin from a Grand Slam semi-final? You used one of the worst matches she has played as an example.

For me Bartoli is very poor player. Her technic is awful, serve hmmmmm :tape: she is fat and her fitness ..... too many cakes.

Her Wimbledon was fluke no matter what her fans will write. I'm 100% she won't play in the GS final again.

The same with Henin, she played the worst set in many years in Grand Slams, that's why Bartoli won that match.

She wasen't allowed to play, she got shut out of the match. There was little she could have done different in that set that would have changed the result of the match. Only a great player could do such a thing to a world number 1, and Marion Bartoli certainly is a great player.

The same with Henin, she played the worst set in many years in Grand Slams, that's why Bartoli won that match.Between Miami '07 and AO '08, noboby has defeated Justine. She was unbeatable. Only one player reached this goal. And not in 1st or 2nd round of a tier I or tier II : in semi of Wimby, the only justine's missing tournament. And this player has been Marion Bartoli, whatever you think.

Before this win, she also defeated Janko, Peer and Flavia. You can be lucky one time, two times, not four times in a such tournament.

She's currently 14th without wimby points. So what about all the players who never reached a GS final ?

Even Aga said in Eastbourne that match vs Marion was the most difficult of the tournament.

So you can say all the things you want. Don't forget that she won ORANGE BOWL under 16s. She has been a good player for a very long time.
