I had no clue Serena had finesse. Her game is awesome and don't get me wrong, I am not saying it is a bad thing, but she does not have any finesse except maybe the kick serve if that can count.

I honestly don't see the point in such threads as these.
Would we see similar threads on MTF saying 'Roger Federer is the Justine Henin of the ATP Tour'
No because it is stupid to compare both tours.
And in all honesty, by saying 'Serena is the Marat Safin of the WTA Tour,' you are only demeaning the WTA Tour.
There is no need to compare players on one tour to the other. Because that will only be done by women's fans comparing to men's fans and thus undermining equality

Are we talking about now or overall? Because Marat dismantled Pete and beat Fed in one of the greatest matches of the last decade. That's the two GOAT's in tennis. His game at it's best is some of the greatest tennis, probably ever with both finesse and unrivaled power.

Serena hasn't had a chance to play any of the GOAT's and at her best, there's power and speed, but not much finesse. I've said before she's showed some of the greatest power and athleticism ever in the game of tennis, but she's never been able to test it against any of the greatest in women's tennis near their prime.

Well what the hell was going on when she beat Steffi Graf in the Final of Indian Wells then?

And Serena has been involved in most of the greatest matches of the last decade, and she herself is one of the greatest of all time. Unlike Marat, but like Federer and Sampras she is the one to be beaten

I said.. talent, and not careers. Steffi Graf in the last year of her career is different than Federer in his prime. It's not even the same as dismantling Sampras in 2000

Anyway, Safin has all the shots, power, finesse, and is claimed by some to be as talented or possibly more talented than Federer himself.

I already said Serena's career is much better than Marat's. However, Marat has a much more multi-faceted game than Serena has ever had. He has a lot more variety, is great at net and when he was on, he did everything extremely well.

I really don't think she has an equal to be honest. I really think the tours are hardly comparable because you need a much higher skillset and physical ability on the men's tour to be "the best". It's not that I'm saying Serena isn't that talented.. it's that I hold Safin in such high regard and I see him as one of the biggest wastes of talent in the Open era. The huge difference for me is the finesse and net play.. other than that, they both have huge groundies off both wings, big serves and great return games.

No, you said: Serena hasn't had a chance to play any of the GOAT's, which was blatantly not the case. She played Steffi Graf in a year where they later went on to become slam champions, top 5 players, and in an important tournament where they both showed good form to reach the final. I think this was/is a match up to be excited about, I'm sure you'll agree.
