I wonder if Maria has got protected ranking if she comes back? What will be her rank and seed in the tournaments she will enter?

Dont you have to miss 2 or 3 slams? Im sure her ranking will be the same as it is on the rankings.

I thought it was 3 slams. Maria will only end up missing 1, perhaps 2 at most. Besides, she'll be in top 15 at WORST which guarantees entry to any tournament.

I thought it was applied if a player was out of action for 6-24 months.

Why would she need to protect a ranking after a drop of like 5 places max.

After AO, if she hasnt recovered her ranking could get ugly, but until then stop worrying.

No....you have to have missed 6 months..... which she wont have. AND Im not even sure they use protected ranking anymore... Did Davenport even get one? dont think so.....

yeah SR (special ranking) is in works still. a player has to be out for 6 months to qualify. maria would only need a SR if she fell low enough to miss tournament cut off rankings. she would need to fall out of the top 20 for this to happen. so if she misses the oz open then maybe, but for now her ranking will get her into any tournament.
