hey guys im new here, but dinara is my fav!

does anyone think she will sort out her dfs, or if its a part of her game. The reason for her loss at the olympics final was her ball toss ( the bbc commentators said a good serve has a throwing action and all russian women players are poor in their serving, maybe because they dont practise throwing balls and prefecting the technique) maybe we should pass that on to dinara

enchantrezz

Hi and welcome :wavey:

Yes its sad to say Dinara gives so many free points thru her double faults. Maybe you're right but she and marat had trained in Spain and yet Marat has got one of the best serves on the men's tour. I dont know the technicalities of it but I listened to the commentators in the USopen during her math and she said the good thing about Dinara's serve is that her ball toss is the same making it hard for her opponent to read where she will be serving thats why she also has a lot of aces.

Hope to see you in Dinara's forum here :)

I have a feeling you'll get sick of me on the forums, im already posting soo much! about safina's serve, in my mind, im guessing she got taught by her mum at an early age to serve, whether or not that serve she had as a kid was improved when she went to spain i dont know? can anyone clarify? im guessing its hard to improve a serve but shes still young so maybe she can improve on it, but you're right she has such a great unexpected 2nd se3rve ace that she uses

PersephoneDisco
Sep 19th, 2008, 01:02 PM
dear lord on high, i thought she could've won this EASILY, i mean bagelled Kanepi. But safina's errors and double faults were HIGH and DIRE. One of her most poorest performances in a long time. Thank god she played well in the last couple of games of the 3rd. I hope she realises shes got an even tougher opponent in Petrova, their head to head is not favorable at all. Petrova has been playing much better than Dinara in Tokyo and i hope her coach has some stern words. It was annoying to watch her give the control to kaia by returning the shot to kaia's FH, and she was wondering why she lost the rally? she needed to go for the lines more and in the rare times she did, she won the point spectacularly! her serve thought, it was a REAL mixed bag of fortunes, some great aces especially second serve ones but 14 DFs is not pretty

enchantrezz
Sep 19th, 2008, 01:17 PM
My guess is that Dinara was bothered by the upsets going on before her match. We all know she can play better but Im just happy she was able to play enough to win this round. Even Kaia was tight and nervous, the pressure of beating the top seed might be on her mind too since everybody was doing it tday, lol!

The result? A very awful match from both players :)

PersephoneDisco
Sep 19th, 2008, 01:38 PM
I hope she wins against Petrova, the H2H is horrid but she hasnt played Dina during her amazing run. I thought it was hilarious when she lost the second set and Krajan left his seat and Dina promptly went for a loo break, i think some necessary words were said. Hopefully she'll relax and not get so down hearted, she has to put each lost point into context of the match. Know what time the semi is on, i think its the first match as welll? hopefully its the same time around about 1 (8am uk time) so i can watch all the semis and enrol at university! :)

the outstanding thing is she should've won it 6-0 6-0. That h2h record has now been made redundant. :P

I wanna watch that match again, it was one way traffic from our gal. I though Petrova would be a challenge, how wrong i was! No answer at all and no double faults. that is MAJOR!!!!!

i think it may be due to the roof being off, less stuffy. Hmm safina can win a match with no double faults! finally!

Dinara is now down 57 01. She just doesn't play well when there's pressure. Just a mess now and she was playing well an hour ago.
Dinara plays Serena tomorrow, so she's going home early.

Dinara trails 57 24. This was an eye opening match because Dinara was up 52 and playing well. But when it was time to close out the set, Dinara's level went down.
Unless Serena is injured tomorrow, Dinara is finished in Doha.

i just can't believe what i saw, in the first 5 service gamess she showed the world the improvement in her game and then SHE CHOKED completely regressing back to old safina.

I never had high hopes for her because of the difficulty in her group, Im guessing a Jankovic vs Williams final.

Dinara lost 11 of the last 14 games. All she can do is prepare for tomorrow.
I think the weaknesses she showed in big matches this year are just a part of her mental toughness, or lack of.
All Dinara can do is try hard. But there are better players when the moments are important

Hopman Cup the launch pad as Safina’s targets No.1 spot

30th December 2008, 13:45 WST
The world’s third best female tennis player will use the upcoming Hopman Cup in Perth as a springboard to launch her assault on the No.1 ranking.
Dinara Safina says reaching the top spot is her ultimate goal for 2009 and that competing in the mixed teams event with older brother Marat Safin is the perfect way to warm up for the challenge.
To reach No.1, Safina must overtake powerful American Serena Williams and unseat top-ranked Serb Jelena Jankovic.
“It’s a very high goal, you know, and I just want to focus on my game and play my game,” Safina said.
“If I be able to do this then the result will come. It is (my goal) for this year.
“I had a good off-season. I was practising hard and actually I’m really looking forward to starting the matches because that’s what it’s about – not about the practice, it’s about the matches.”
While several weeks practising in Spain haven’t quite prepared her for the heat of Perth, 21-year-old Safina believes she is fitter than at the same time last year.
“I think it’s completely different coming here this year than (when) I came here last year,” Safina said.
“I just want to do better this year and I’m really excited.”
Safina will team up with her brother for the first time at the week-long Perth event, which runs from January 3-9 at the Burswood Dome, and is looking forward to the prospect of winning matches side by side with her sibling.
“It’s great, I think it was my dream to play together with my brother one time and I always wanted to come here and play together,” Safina said.
“This time I was lucky that they invited us to play and I hope it’s going to be fun for us and for the crowd who’s going to come to watch and support us.
“I know he’s won one match here so I hope maybe he can win with me one match.”
Although the brother-sister combination has not been able to practise together very often, Safina already expects Marat will be in charge in the mixed doubles.
“He’s still older than me so I think he’s going to be the boss on the court,” Safina said.

Safina was VERY unhappy with her 'win' against Cornet! Don't worry you can play your normal aggressive tennis against Sugi tomorrow! Davai Dinara! :yeah:

Afterwards, Safina provided a characteristically honest assessment of a match she felt she didn't deserve to take. "Of course I'm happy that I won, but I think it was a disaster, the match today,"
"If she'd been a little bit more experienced I would have lost. I don't know what she did at 4-1, but I can say she gave me the match.
"I was a set up, and then I just wasn't aggressive enough," Safina continued. "Nothing was coming from me, it was all about her - either she makes a shot or she doesn't make it. It's not the way I want to win the match. I want to win it by myself, not that the girl loses to me.
“Either I play completely differently tomorrow or I may as well just take my racquets and go, because that's not the way I want to play. Sugi's a very aggressive player, and she will not lose the match, for sure."
