First title in years for Patty!:worship::worship:

She must be brimming with confidence after her quarter final run at the US Open. I would love to see her end the year in the top 10.

If she is playing this good now, hopefully she can stick around for a few more years.

Great job patty:bounce::bounce:

Bad luck Tamira, she had a big tournament with a lot of tough matches, good job to get to the final.:)

First title in three and a half years! I thought she was never going to get another one. Back up to #11 in the world and she is just oozing confidence. What a display. Served well, the backhand held up, and her forehand was working perfectly. Paszek just looked dead exhausted by the end of the match.

500 wins! I am so proud of her. :yeah:

Tamira  Great week and it's good to have you back.

Patty was playing very very good tennis :yeah::D. Too good, too experienced for Tamira, so no surprises here, not even about the scoreline! Tamira couldn't raise her level to compete with Patty, didn't play aggressive enough and too many UEs overall.

Congrats on this well-deserved title that puts her back on the right track!

And not a lot of people know that this emphatic win is the lovely Patty's 500th career win - her half century!!

Only Davenport, Mauresmo and Venus, of active players (not including Mary Pierce) have reached that total.

A testament to her longevity and tremendous skill.

I'm glad somebody here put it in perspective. Since Zurich '02 the Strange Suissie hasn't won anything higher than a Tier III (the Gold Coast, Cincy, and now Bali, one time each). And she's never made the final of a Slam, let alone won; and only made the finals once.

Of the Cuckoo Clock's now 11 career titles, only Tier II Hannover in '98 and Tier I Zurich noted above were above Tier III. Ova all, a wasted talent. (5 of the 11 titles were in '98 @ age 19, B4 "the Rainers" came along). By comparison, Marti won a pair of Tier I's just in her 2 year comeback.

This is a pretty good run, and the scorelines are all impressive. Not a single set lost which means not very many mental lapses and no significant ones. Great result for Patty.

Patty  It's great to see her finally win another title. I thought her title-winning days were over and that she was perhaps on the way down, but she's put together an impressive season (2 GS QF's, Tier II Final) this year and it's nice to see it topped off with a trophy.

For someone that won 5 titles in one of her first full years on tour, it's surprising to see she's had such trouble stringing together weeks like this more often. She has obviously underachieved in her career relative to her awesome natural talent, but she has still had a career to be proud of, one that has seen her become a solid fixture in the top 10/15 for many years. Hopefully with this title she will want to play on for a few more years.

Schnyder sweeps Bali crown

Bruce Emond
The Jakarta Post/Nusa Dua, Bali

Resurgent Swiss 2nd seed Patty Schnyder gave a master class in finesse
tennis on Sunday to end the charmed run of Austrian teen Tamira Paszek
and win the Commonwealth Bank Tennis Classic.
The world number 13, twice a semifinalist in Bali, continued her superb
form of the past few weeks by beating the tournament debutante 6-3, 6-0 in
67 minutes. Schnyder's 500th career win since she turned pro in 1994 was
her 11th tournament title but her first since 2005 in Cincinatti. Schnyder, who did
not lose a set during the week, won US$35,000.
"I'm very happy and proud, especially in the way I was able to close
it out in the end," said Schnyder, 29. "Sometimes the score looks easy
but it is hard to stay focused."
Paszek, 17, had beaten three seeds on her way to the final, including
top seed Daniela Hantuchova in Saturday's semifinals. But left-hander
Schnyder was ruthless in dissecting the game of the teenager, who is
her friend off court.
Paszek held a break point in the first game on Schnyder's serve, before
the Swiss gave a taste of her play to come by averting danger by moving
Paszek around the court, bringing her in on a dropshot and then flicking
up a soft lob that landed near the baseline.
Schnyder then broke for 2-0, and although Paszek immediately broke
back in the next game on her 6th breakpoint, the Swiss was in control.
Although the world-ranked 85 Austrian feeds off pace generated by her
opponents, Schnyder is a rare talent of spins and slices in
today's ball-banging power game. She carefully constructed points
with kicker serves that bounced high at the 1.65 Paszek's shoulder,
dipping crosscourt shots and looping groundstrokes that kept the younger
woman off balance.
Unlike Hantuchova, who tried to blast her way past the Austrian's
rugged defense, Schnyder displayed her superb athleticism by running
down everythign and giving her one more ball to hit, often drawing an
error.
Paszek had played two lengthy three-set matches to reach the final,
and by the end of the match could offer little resistance.
"I felt a bit tired today, especially toward the end, but Patty played
an amazing match," said Paszek, who received a runner's up check for
US$19,000.
Schnyder, a veteran in tennis career terms, said she was "surprised"
by her recent run of excellent form, including a quarterfinal showing
at the U.S. Open.
"It's amazing. I'm now scratching at the top 10 again," said the
Swiss, whose highest world ranking was 7 in 2005. "I'm just taking
the surprises and going along with them."
In the women's doubles final, 3rd seeded pair Su-Wei Hsieh of Chinese
Taipei and Shuai Peng of China saved three matchpoints to defeat Pole
Marta Domachowska and Russian Nadia Petrova 6-7 (4), 7-6 (3), 10-7.
This was the last year of the tournament in its present format. In
2009, it will become the Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions
with a round-robin format.

As i said in the 500 win celebration thread, Patty DOES have 500 professional wins. Playing in an ITF pro event or the qualis of a wta event is still professional tennis. The WTA is the OFFICIAL source for womens professional tennis, hence them celebrating this milestone on the wta homepage. We all can have our opinions, yet there is no denying the fact of her accomplishment...:bounce:...:wavey:
