A little nervous at the end, but WHAT AN AMAZING win. Kimiko is definitley top 100 material, maybe even top 50! Excited to see how she goes.

Bananas indeed!!!

This is just great. I really hope Kimiko can get another win to get into the main draw here and hopefully even get another win or two once in the main draw.

But whatever happens from here on in Kimiko has definately already sent a very clear message that she can compete at WTA level. I guess we still won't see Kimiko outside of Japan this year but next year I sure hope Kimiko takes her remarkable skills abroad at the very least for some Grand Slam competition.

To all those, including myself, who said Kimiko could not compete at the WTA level, you are so wrong. Competing with, and actually going on to beat, a Top50 player in a TI is a great accomplishment for Kimiko and I hope this gives her loads of confidence. I hope she plays outside of Japan next year because if she could qualify here she would get a decent amount of points, maybe enough to get her close to the Top200 which would mean Australian Open qualifying.

Great win Kimiko.

Amazing win for Kimiko, very happy for her :) A few people thought she would be lucky to win games off of players in the top 100, but considering she already beat Nakamura this year, and very nearly Tanasugarn, I knew on her day she could give some of these girls a run for their money still :)

Wozniak will be a good test actually, I'd say it's not an impossible match either..She's got no pressure on her as underdog, and Wozniak has the sort of game that will give Kimiko a chance to get into a rhythm with her shots and feed off of Aleks' pace, could be interesting. Also, Kimiko knows how to use the angles and different parts of the court so well, so best believed she will be looking to expose Aleks' weaker court coverage. I really think Aleks will have to serve well and be aggressive early in the points in order to take hold of this match.

one of those videos realy shows me how serious she is about this comeback, its the 1 where shes practicing drive volleys. now back in the early to mid 90's there were very few girls hitting drive volleys, maybe seles and capriati, so im sure its not a shot date used very often in her 1st career but she obviously knows its a vital shot these days and she was practicing it. if she can get her opponent on the defensive with her angles and early balls adding the drive volley to finish off points is a must and a way she can make her game that little bit more attack minded for todays modern game.

the tournament organisers would be desperate for Date to get through qualifying. Most tournaments would fall apart if both Williams sisters pulled out at the last minute but Date seriously attracts a billion times more media attention than any woman that has ever played the game. she is massive there.

Temporary0369
Sep 15th, 2008, 12:57 AM
It's really not as bad of a loss as many are saying it is. She had Tanasugarn on the ropes very early on in her comeback. That was on synthetic grass too, so that's saying something. I think she'll finish the year as number 1 if she plays maybe one or two more wta level tournaments.
