It's an amazing movie. I cried at the end of it, too. Very emotional, driving film.

The mix of realism and fantasy makes it, I think. Seeing a guy get his nose smashed in with a bottle is pretty bad ass too.

Are you guys all kidding? Me and my friends who watched it were soooooooooo disappointed the movie was soo bad, it made no sense whatsoever and it had no storyline and even the visuals which are probably the movie's best asset are lacklustre. Plus most of the main characters are really stupid and annoying. I seriously cannot believe that anyone can like this sh*t. We thought it was so bad that it's now kind of a running gag between us. Anyway I'm kind of interested in knowing what exactly you guys liked in this movie.

I sometimes think people go over the top in their criticism, I mean I can understand if someone didn't like the movie but to say that it was so bad means you haven't been watching 99% of the movies that have come out recently.

The movie was stunning and chilling. It was so suspenseful and was one of the few movies in the last couple of years that wasn't cliched and didn't have a standard plot. It was something new and different that keeps you interested from start to finish with the historical context and the war, the fantasy elements, and the drama with the family, it really had everything.

Well, she is a kid, she is living a war (where juicy grapes are like GOLD) and basically, just tell a kid to do something and he/she will do the opposite

And then after seeing the Pan, the treeman, that huge frog, the white monster, the chalk thing...you just don't understand why she eats the grapes?

I agree that alot of people are way too hard on artists or performers or movies in general and I admit that I don't watch movies all that often but when I do I usually think it was good and view it in a positive way. But this one to me was really a failure and up until this thread, I was convinced that everbody else thought so too. And I agree with you that there was no standard plot cause there was no plot at all. It's like a bunch of sequences that have no rhyme or reason. The best part was definately the credits.

One of the best films I've seen. Only saw it recently and I have no idea what took me so long to see it. The ending was a little frustrating, but overall it was a remarkable movie. The quality of films overall now a days seems to be severely lacking, and it boggles me why people don't make more films like these. You could tell that so much attention to detail and heart was put into it.

Tree-man :o He was a faun. Pan's Labyrinth...Pan is a faun in Greek mythology. This guy isn't your typical faun though, that's all. Kudos to the movie makers who changed their image of the creature in a different way.

He was a good guy. I thought he was going to be evil when I first saw him in the movie, but you see that he's a servant to her father at the very end anyway, and just wanted to see her come back home.

Vamos.

:rolls:

Sorry I started the whole "tree-man" bonanza off. :o

It is just the perfect way to describe him.

Anyway, I didn't trust the tree-man at all. It seemed like it was supposed to be scary, I always hate it when film-makers make somebody who is totally good scary at first. Just for the entertainment value. It's like: "give us a nice tree-man, bitch."

Pan's Labyrinth was a great movie. BUT the movie that beat Pan's in Oscars..the german movie 'The lives of Others'...is my fav movie in last 20 years. I think everybody should check that movie out. One of the best acting, story telling in years.
