Can you briefly tell us what the show is about ?

Rocketta
Sep 8th, 2008, 04:52 AM
It's based on the Southern Vampire series books. The lead character is Sookie Stackhouse. It's set in Louisiana and vampires have legal status because the Japanese developed a synthetic blood that they can drink. So since they no longer had to kill people to get their blood supply they came out into the open.

Sookie is a telepath so the locals thinks she's weird. She's a waitress in a bar and one night Bill the vampire comes in. Sookie saves him from being drained of his blood (it sells on the black market) from some locals.

Oh Sookie has a brother that is a slut and he slept with this fangbanger (human who lets vamps bite on them) well she turns up dead and now he is a suspect.

anyway, that's episode one in a nutshell. ;)

I just watched the show last night on Demand and OMG I love it. Its a great concept and fun to watch. Sookie's brother is a slut but damn if he isn't hott!!!!!!!

Anyway, its a great show and I will be watching it. But omg if Sookie says "Y'all" anymore, I'll kill her lol! Oh and my favorite character has to be Tara. She is so funny, as is Lafayette. Haha its a great show. :)

Rocketta

Lafayette is hilarious..

Tara I can't get into because she's different than her character in the book. However, when she was fussing her boss out it was funny.

and I say y'all all the time too! :o

I don't mind when people say "Y'all" its just her voice plus how she says it = ANNOYING.

The bar owner and Sookie's brother doesn't look a lot alike to me  Maybe that's because I know the actor plays the brother from Home and Away (Australian soap series)

It was pretty close to the book. The biggest difference is tara, they completely changed that character.

well dag that is fast.

I thought the 2nd episode was definitely slower but I still enjoyed it. I do think the actor that is playing Jason is struggling a little with the whole southern accent character but I guess he'll get better as time goes on.

Who off Home & Away plays the brother, AlexSydney?

I LOVE True Blood. It's taken me a while to get used to Sookie and Tara's southern accents but it's a great show. Lafayette is my absolute favorite.

I read Charlaine Harris' books a while ago and remember that some of the details are changed with the series but nothing too jarring so far. I can't wait to see next week's episode. Thanks for starting this thread, Rocketta :wavey:

This past episode was really good. I wonder what's going to happen to Andy now that he's suspicious of Sam and his running through the woods naked routine? And I was on pins and needles the whole time Lafayette was with Eddie. I couldn't take my eyes off L's long silver chain, but then he left and that's when dumbass jason and Amy hoodwink poor Eddie with Amy's silver stuff. It looks like she's done this before and I wonder if Amy has anything to do with the murders (I've read the books but I'm trying to give the show some leeway in changing things and also I don't want to spoil it for anyone,:))

Sure, she has done that before but no way she did all those murders... remember Gran? When I saw Lafayette went to that vampire's place, I thought he must be the one did those murders and know him personally which is easy to trust him to let come in. Once again, the Gran murder is remain mystery so, I have no idea who killed her.

I agree Alex, that Amy probably didn't kill the women, but I want to say that she's much more sinister than she appears. And could Jason be any more stupid? I appreciate them giving him a greater role, but I'm kind of pissed that he's such a dumb bastard. I just hope that his good sense comes back and he lets Eddie go. We'll see.

What about that latest episode though, eh? Poor Sookie--now Bill has to go before the tribunal to answer for killing the thieving vamp to save her. I don't know how many more people she can lose without losing it, you know? Sam's secret is out of the bag now but I still hope that he and Tara get together properly.

What the heck! Last night's episode ran the gamut between boring me (am I the only one who is getting sick of Sookie's attitude about Bill 'leaving' her? For chrissake, he HAD to go) and totally throwing me for a loop. It seems like a lot of new situations/people (the Congressman, Tara's rescuer/vision) are being thrown in here when the season is about to end. I have to admit though, it was funny when Bill's fledgling told him 'you suck,' and then started laughing. And I had my suspicions about Rene, but only in last night's episode.

I'm still hooked but I'm wondering about how HBO has spread out the books/storyline. I'm sure it's for maximum cliff hanger value so that we'll be back for the next season.

Gah Pecans and sugar is nasty, but I agree pecans by themselves are okay haha.

Pecan Pie is a very popular desert in the southern part of the US, especially Louisiana. It's actually more than just sugar and pecans. The filling is made with corn syrup, vanilla, salt, eggs, butter and sugar, and poured into a pie shell and topped with half pecans.

It's delicious.

http://i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq142/denise4925/pecanpie.jpg
Pecan pie is a sweet custard pie made primarily of corn syrup and pecan nuts. It is popularly served at holiday meals and is also considered a specialty of Southern U.S. cuisine. Most pecan pie recipes include salt and vanilla as flavorings. Other ingredients such as chocolate and bourbon whiskey are popular additions to the recipe. Some recipes even use an amount of maple syrup instead of corn syrup for flavoring.

Tradition holds that the French created pecan pie soon after settling in New Orleans, after being introduced to the nut by Native Americans. It is sometimes referred to as "New Orleans pecan pie," adding an aura of French cuisine to a home-cooked comfort food. Source Wikipedia

jean_genie
Nov 25th, 2008, 05:05 PM
Yes, they did leave it a mystery about Lafayette, as far as I was concerned. Bill told Sookie that he fed, but he didn't say he killed anyone and then when Eric, Pam and Jessica showed up, who knows which of them might have done it. I was hoping that maybe one of them turned him because I'll miss his character.

~{X}~
Nov 25th, 2008, 06:35 PM
Yeah I think they just wanted you to think Bill was one of the suspects in killing Lafayette cause he said he fed. But we don't even know if it was a vampire? It could of been a shape shifter, or a werewolf or that woman that was helping Tara.

Now we must wait so long for season 2

Lafayette :sobbing: I bet it was a werewolf because they mentioned werewolves several times and it might indicate that we will see them in next season.

We will see more of Maryann in second season so it's good news for those fans of Michelle Forbes like myself :D I'm wondering what ability she has... at first, I thought she somehow controlled Rene to killing those women but I'm obviously wrong.

God, I don't want they turned Jason into a religious freak :o I liked seeing him naked and fucking around  It won't be same without fucking around. It's a HBO series, after all!

Doubt it, I think Pam, Eric, and Chow were just feeding on Lafayette but that Eric will turn him.

Oh, and I absofuckinglutely love this show. Can't wait to see what Maryann has up her sleeve for Tara, and if she'll have a run in with Sookie over Sookie's asking Tara to live with her. Really like the strange dynamic between Bill, Sookie, and Jessica as well.

Also, when the sales lady was all giggly because she assumed Bill and Eric were gay? Hilarious. Except then I wanted it to be true, because Eric with short hair is awfully attractive (when he's not ripping people to shreds).

This show would increase in awesome level if they would take away more scenes from Sookie. She's simply too stupid to be alive at this point, and horridly boring on top of that. More Lafayette or Maryann, please.

Yeah, the Stackhouse clan sure didn't get the smart gene....

Definitely a good show! Been hooked since I got On Demand.

Same mate, totally hooked from the very first............... Anna Paquin is perfect as Sookie, even Ryan Kwanten totally fits the bill, (sorry no pun intended).... great casting and good scripts make this show... Layfayette, great character there, brings life to any scene. :D (^^ do disagree about sookie, anna plays her perfectly as a girl-next-door...... refreshing change from the usual American tv women, striding around in total command of everything and always with a ready solution to every problem)

Season 2 kicks off downunder in September on paytv................ :worship:

really enjoying this season but the one thing that is bugging me is the pacing. It's seems to be getting too slow.
I think some storylines are moving slowly, but overall it's a great pace.

For instance, Maryann's storyline is one that needs to start picking up. They've built up this creepy atmosphere with her, but now we need to find out what her deal is.

That said, if you think about it, a ton has happened:
Sookie's been attacked by a mysterious creature,
Tara and Eggs have been getting close,
Sookie asked Tara to move in with her,
Jessica lost it and almost killed her dad,
Hoyt and Jessica got together,
Sookie bargained with Eric to free Lafayette,
Jason is having mild PTSD-like flashbacks while trying to impress his new Christian "friends".

Things should get really good from here on out. They've really turned Eric into an interesting character, and Hoyt and Jessica are already becoming my new favorite couple - during their scenes, my brain kept telling me that Hoyt's dialogue was cheesy, but it was just so sincere that it somehow worked. :hearts: Also, I would gladly give up some Stackhouse screen time for a bit more Pam.

I don't hate Sookie, with the exception of the time she kissed Sam and went all ridiculously melodramatic about Bill leaving her to "playing vampire games" (uhm, Sookie? he saved your life and had to stand trial for doing so...). But she's definitely not a favorite character.

I swear that bull-man scares the hell out of me. One night I was on the computer doing some accounting work and I dozed off for a bit and had a dream. During the dream something was touching me on my shoulder. I looked over and it was the bull-man fingers. Upon waking up, I jumped out of my computer chair. It was hilarious now that I think about it.

Do you think when Eggs has sex Maryann transforms into the bull-man? I was trying to figure out why is she so obsessed with Tara? What's up with the pig? I think the storyline is interesting because I can't figure out where the writers are going with this.

I agree. Maryann is the most interesting character on the show at the moment. But that woman frightens the living daylights out of me especially when she starts vibrating.:scared::lol: Then she has all the weird sex crazed parties with a bunch of exotic fruit and special homemade dishes. It's just creepy to me.

I have a feeling Maryann has slept with Eggs before. I was trying to connect the dots and my assumption is that Eggs holds the key to her fully transforming into a bull man. I could be wrong but that's just speculation. I should go read the spoilers but I'd rather just wait to see how everything unfolds.

Are you annoyed with Jessica? She's cute but for some reason I think she's going to turn out to be quite evil.

And Sookie meeting someone with her ability is really interesting. I wonder what's the point though?

Poor Jason, it's been so long I think he came at the touch of a woman's hand.

Eric's Maker scene was hot.

Godric did look real pale; but could be other reasons for that?

Seemed like Bill's maker, Lorena, grabbed the male telepath?

And yeah, they're really making Sookie out to be her brother's sister this season...no sense at all. Good question - I just think he is never around for Maryann's tricks, and stumbled in on this one. But, then there was the first time when he saw the pig and wasn't affected like everyone else either...I wonder what kind of 'supernatural' he would be.

I think they must have recast him completely, he looks way too different.

Godric has been played by the same actor in every episode that he has appeared (2, right?), Allan Hyde. Some Danish guy (that I would like to sleep with). It wasn't a recast, though he does look markedly different from his first episode to this recent one. I suspect that the haircut, makeup, amount of blood on his face, and lighting all play a role. But mainly, the haircut.

Sookie has always been intollerabley stupid. I can't think of a single character on television that deserves to die more than she does. However, she is more tolerable when put on screen with characters other than the Bill. I don't know of Moyer and Paquin simply lack chemistry, if it's the writing, or what, but whenever they're on screen together I practically convulse out of boredom.

And on that note... this last episode was a good one. Let's keep Bill locked in a room forever if that's what it takes to keep the storylines flowing. Another week of Sookie and Bill discussing a relationship that nobody fucking cares about anymore, and I was going to tune out for good.

I didn't find Sookie stupid at all in the first season really. I chalked it up to her being a 25-year-old telepathic virgin who lives with her grandma and isn't used to being around vampires or dead people. ;) But she gets an epic fail this season, even though I still like her.

Crazy Canuck

What's with all the Sookie hate :bigcry: ?

She may well be the weakest female lead that I've seen on a TV program. Ever. I haven't decided how much of that is Anna Paquin's fault, or if it's entirely due to the writing and direction. Whoever is to blame, the character is stupid, relatively useless, and completely dependent on the men in her life to save her from herself, yet is completely unaware of all of this. Were she simply supposed to be a bimbo, she might at least be good for some comic relief (of course, we have this one covered by Jason, the Himbo). As it is, I cringe most of the time she's in a scene. I watch this show for the other, superior characters and their storylines. I understand why they can't kill her off, but I sincerely wish they would use less of her and completely kill any relationship chat between her and Bill. Jesus fucking yawn.

Does anyone else hate the Jessica/Hoyt side story? I find it unnecessary.

It seems to be unnecessary, so far, but at least they're cute and somewhat likable. If they're still floating these two around, totally unrelated to the other plots, a season from now, I will be annoyed. For now, it's good.

Totally. Except for the face part. Makeup does that. His facial structure is the same from when he made Eric until now. I totally understand why people think it's a different guy, though. I suspect that the actor may have gotten bigger. He's only 20 (I'm a pig), so it's perfectly reasonable to think that he could have grown.

To be honest, I didn't hate Sookie quite as much in Season 1. I didn't particularly care for her, but that comes from my dislike of needy, dependent, naive people who never learn from their mistakes. Whatever, I could deal and didn't convulse when she came on screen. But now, when she still doesn't Get It a season later... bleh. Show some character development or show less of her.

I find it completely unbelievable that a vampire as awesome as Eric would be fascinated with this completely boring human being.

(I'm willing to suspect my believe that Eric is a vampire, but not that he would care for boring people. Go figure)

My take of that scene is that Maryann needs to actively get into them. She may have been too distracted by trying to kill Sam to notice new members to the party. Simarlarly, when Tara and Eggs showed up to the orgy after trying to buy the water heater part, they were not immediately entraced by Maryanne and could see what was going on. It was only after Maryanne discovered them that they became possessed. I don't think that scene means that he has special powers.

I agree with Brickhouse. It'd be funny if Andy was some random supernatural, but nothing necessarily points in that direction at this point.

By the by, ever since watching The Wire this past month (I was late to the show), I can't see Andy without wondering if Frank has become some sort of bizarre dumb cop zombie.

Ryan
Aug 4th, 2009, 05:59 PM
Yeah, I think brickhousesupporter is probably spot-on with the Andy and Maryanne analysis.

Anyone want to bet on what will happen when Sookie et.al. return to Bon Temps? I can't imagine Maryanne's secret lasting very long with Sam knowing, and Sookie's telepathy allowing her to hear the mumbo-jumbo gibberish spells (this is, assuming, Sookie gets a little smarter). I wonder how Maryanne stacks up against a Vampire? I wouldn't think very well unless she's in her crazy bull-bitch form, and even then its debatable.

Crazy Canuck
Aug 5th, 2009, 06:58 AM
Sookie already heard Maryanne's thoughts (which were in a language that Sookie didn't recognize) and asked her where she was from. Maryanne lied, obviously, since saying she's ancient Greek or whatever might freak people out. Sookie, naturally, did nothing with this information. I suspect that the Maryanne plot will play out without Sookie's intervention, since Sookie putting two and two together and having an intelligent plan would be totally out of character at this point. She really has to be the least kickass female lead of all time.

Good question about Maryanne vs Vamps. I suspect that Maryanne is older and far more powerful than the Vampires. Remember how long it took the Vampires at Fangtasia to heal Sookie after Maryanne attacked her? Vampire blood alone doesn't heal whatever it is Maryannes claws put into you. Now, we know that she can't effect supernaturals the same way as humans, so I wonder what exactly she can do to Vampires? Would her attacking them like she attacked Sookie effect them the same way? Could she even get the jump on them in the first place to attack like that? Vampires more than likely can't glamour her, but maybe they can move faster? Also, with their heightened senses, they could anticipate her much better than a human. Whatever. If she can mess up the shapeshifters powers, then it would be fun to see what, if anything, she can do to a Vampire. Please do this, Show.

Crazy Canuck
Aug 5th, 2009, 07:04 AM
I realize that Sookie is supernatural, though that wasn't really clear from the above post. I suspect that she can't be put under Maryanne's spell, for the same reason that she can't be glamoured, but she bleeds and bruises just like a any other human. It follows that Vampires would probably respond differently to being clawed in the back by Maryanne. Make this happen, Show.

What people are going to have to deal with is that although Sookie is a telepath she is not all knowing. If Sookie was all knowing there would be no exposition and therefore no book series or tv series. You have to allow Sookie some stupid moments, because without them there would not be the satisfying moments at the end. Yes I know when Gabe went into the cage that was the perfect time for Sookie to escape but she didn't so I just have to roll with it.

He looked a little preppy in this episode. Remember that these vampires are immortal unless they are staked or sunburned. They take on the persona of whatever period they are in. When Lorena made Bill she was in dress appropriate to the 1860s in America.

When Godric made Eric, he was in a more primitive setting, therefore the dressing like the Vikings of that time.

Ugh, you have to be careful never to watch the promos with HBO shows. They did the same thing when Daphne led Sam to Maryann's orgy to be sacrificed - so irritating. :(

Hang a minute, Sookie's ability isn't useless after all... she used telepathic communication with her fellow telepath to pass the message to Bill  Well, she didn't communicate directly to the male telepath but he probably eavesdrop the thoughts and felt need to tell Bill himself.

Crazy Canuck
Aug 6th, 2009, 10:17 AM
What people are going to have to deal with is that although Sookie is a telepath she is not all knowing. If Sookie was all knowing there would be no exposition and therefore no book series or tv series. You have to allow Sookie some stupid moments, because without them there would not be the satisfying moments at the end. Yes I know when Gabe went into the cage that was the perfect time for Sookie to escape but she didn't so I just have to roll with it.

I don't expect her to be all knowing. I just expect people to have thoughts. While I don't think that's asking too much in real life, I appreciate that this is a make believe TV show. Hence, "dealing with it" is quite simple. I groan in disgust when Sookie is dumb, which happens every other scene she is in, and patiently wait for somebody awesome to come on screen. More Eric and Lafayette, please.

About Sookie: She is a Stackhouse. So the DOH moments will come aplenty. And, yes, the writers will lean on them to provide some suspense. Over the two seasons she's gone and gotten better at deciding when to listen in, and who to focus in on. So every moment she doesn't simply do a sweep of the premises -- while on mission and then captured -- could be thought of as character development. Goes to the show's essence, too: part comedy in, part satire of the South. Asking the central character to be intelligent and not naive would be like asking Meredith Grey of Grey's Anatomy to become mature and not self-absorbed.

Bill And Sookie To Get Hitched In Real Life!
Anna Paquin and her True Blood costar Stephen Moyer are engaged!
While they've only recently come public with their relationship, they fell for each other over a year ago at the audition for the HBO series.
Moyer says they felt it was important, "that the cast and crew we were working with didn't feel it was fickle, and didn't feel it could possibly potentially encroach on their lives, you know, just like 'Oh the two stars are having a thing.' We didn't want to take anything away from the show."
But after enjoying the immense success of the vampire show, the two have come clean and are planning to wed.
Moyer goes on that, "it's just very exciting, and that was there from day one. We always take the piss out of each other and are silly with each other, and it is great. We're very, very happy. She's the best."
Aww. Too cute! Congrats to the happy couple.

Good for them. I hate the characters, but have no qualms with either actor. Still, it's weird to me that the one real couple on the show has the least on screen chemistry.

Oh, I don't know. Grey's Anatomy couldn't really happen without Meredith, but it could still happen if she was less self absorbed, as evidenced by the recent season. The recent season was terrible, but not as a result of Meredith's character growth. Nonetheless, it was a good comparison. Both characters have the potential to be interesting, yet, oddly, come up short. Thankfully, the casts of shows like Grey's Anatomy and True Blood are emsembles, rather than just having one or two standout stars. It's not like watching House or Dexter every week in spite of the fact that you can't stand seeing Hugh Laurie or Michael C Hall on the screen; that would be absurd.

Well, I've stopped consistently watching Grey's, ever since it forgot it's meant to be "high school with scalpels." I've peaked in occasionally and can't bear to watch it decide to age so quickly, and then poke fun at itself for doing so. I blame Mer + Dreamy's stability for having to watch scenes of McSteamy catch feelings for Little Grey....

After weeks of me bitching about Sookie, she finally has a good episode. And one of her awesome moments (when she went all Jerry Springer on Lorena's ass) even had something to do with Bill! Who knew it was possible? This is how Sookie should be used. You can be dumb and naive and still not suck the life out of every scene. Take note, Show.

Any episode that has Lafayette wearing a shirt that says "bitch" on it and involves Jason Himbo Stackhouse outsmarting people, is a winner in my books.

Totally agree on all counts, but I don't think Godric is depressed. As much as he was preaching about humans and vampires coexisting, it doesn't really make sense that he would allow himself to be captured by the FoTS - he had to know that would instigate a war. So did Godric have it planned all along so that he could expose Steve Newlin as a crazy person to his congregation in a wildly melodramatic fashion? Or maybe, given how tired and bored of life he seems, he just didn't even care if the FoTS offed him?

He's extremely interesting - they better not kill him off next week.

I'm excited that the Maryann storyline is apparently about to culminate next week. I hope Lafayette can get Tara to wake up already.

Yes. That week or two where Lafayette was freaking out after he was released from Eric's basement dungeon. The PTSD made sense. The swift recovery, less so. Come to think of it, given how slowly time passes on this show, hasn't it only been a couple of weeks since they found the woman with her heart ripped out in Andy's car? I believe they mentioned that last episode. So apparently Lafayette has been tortured and bounced back within about a week. Good for him!

I'm coming around to the idea that I like the actor and his portrayal of the character rather than the character himself.

Just out of curiosity, does anybody who watches this show actually consider it high quality television? I mean, it's nice to look at it. It's trashy, fun, and addictive. I just wouldn't call it good, so I was horribly confused when people not only expected it to be nominated for Emmy's, but were shocked and pissed off when it wasn't. I mean... what?

Dude! Ok, I think this actually might be my favorite episode of the series. Definitely the best episode of this season at least.

The beginning was awesome haha. Eric is such a skeezy guy, but he still manages to be bad ass. Loved the shit he pulled on Sookie and Bill with the blood stuff. I think the Dallas storyline picked up a ton just in the last couple episodes, which is good because it was slowing down a little bit I thought. Nice to see the TV Vamp be a real bitch "off the record", doesn't surprise me and makes for a good plot twist with her firing Godric.

Gotta say the acting in this episode was really spot-on, and reminded me more of the great great stuff in season 1. Lately I think some of the dialogue seemed too forced and cheesy, but there were some SICK moments - Sookie and Jason was actually really nice, and Eric/Godric/Sookie at the end was pretty damn impressive.

Loved the way Godric went out actually - wouldn't have minded seeing him around more, but I think Ball really captured just how diverse vampires can be - Godric's one old, old vampire, who really hates what his 'people' have become and is kind of self-loathing. His actions with the Church of the Loonyfucks didn't make sense until now.

Sookie was pretty awesome this episode too - Anna Paquin is doing a great job this series IMO.

Oh yeah, and back in Bon Temps...really glad to see Maryann's storyline amp up. Good to see her bust out as the twisted bitch she is, talk about her motives/religious fanaticism and put her black-eyed power into place more often. With Sam and Andy teamin up now, should be sweeet.

Cant wait for next week!

this was actually my least favorite episode so far of the entire series. I thought the acting was good but the scenes seemed so rushed and awkwardly put together. There were a lot of things I liked in theory but in execution it just didn't work. Felt like a hodge podge episode but I love that things are moving forward. Regardless, that was a decent episode, though I liked last week's better.

How sad for Jason that he's somehow the less intelligent Stackhouse? What an impressively thick family they are. A pity we didn't get to meet their parents.

Not quite......remember that fantastic piece of fiction called twilight......The sun causes vampires to sparkle like diamonds. Therefore they resist going out in the sun and being detected as different.

True... I should change it to a sunlight effect.

Love this show. I didn't really like the first season and stopped watching after a couple of episodes, but my niece got me hooked on it watching the scene with Maryanne and Tara and Eggs eating that heart pie. I had to go On Demand, and watch from the first episode this season until now. So, I've caught up, but I haven't seen the new episode they showed last night.

this was actually my least favorite episode so far of the entire series. I thought the acting was good but the scenes seemed so rushed and awkwardly put together. There were a lot of things I liked in theory but in execution it just didn't work. Felt like a hodge podge episode but I love that things are moving forward. Loved all the ideas but hopefully the script is better executed in the next episode. I will agree that I can't wait for next week, lol the overall story is just too good.

agreed. the only plus i could find was lafayette is back to his best, also i think im getting mancrush on hoyt :o

Godric :sobbing: What an amazing exit for a fantastic character. Allan Hyde definitely has a bright future. I hope this isn't the last time we seen of him on American big or small screen.

Did anyone see the last episode yesterday? It was AMAZING!! Bill going to the Queen and now we know Sookie is something more than a telepath, it was great!

Yeah, it was SO GOOD. It was REALLY different from the books. I mean Sookie wasn't really more than a telepath in the book IIRC but that could have just been like a supernatural repulsion between the two, god knows. hey Thave changed parts of the plot and the action from the original book a lot in these series and usually it just wasn't as good as the original story. But this was BRILLIANT. Really can't wait for next week's one already.

They've changed the plot so much from book 2 I really wonder how it's going to progress... are they going to completely deviate from the book now? Which is ok with me I love being surprised but I'm shocked if Charlaine Harris would be ok with it?

Well the series is BASED on the books, right? It can keep a central plotline and change a bunch of other stuff I guess. Not sure how much it does change from the books, but I really liked this weeks episode. Sookie owning Maryanne, and Maryanne getting turned on by it. :spit:

The part with Jason in Merlotte's and pretending to be the God was pretty lame IMO, didn't like that part.

Can someone who's read the books explain Vampire Hierarchy to me? How was Godric, a crazy old vampire, just a Sheriff, and Evan Rachel Wood is a Vamp Queen when she's 4/500? And can someone explain how the structure of it all works? Sheriffs, Queens/Kings, etc? How does it all work? Thanks!

I too loved when Bill bit Maryanne and he began to vomit and act as if he had a disease. And I loved that Maryanne was laughing when Sookie touched her, and was wondering what Sookie was.

I kinda don't like the fact that little old Sookie apparently has a power that can repel an ancient being like Maryanne though. I mean, it kinda annoys me.

And I agree, the whole Jason playing God role in the parking lot was probably one of the stupidest scenes in all the 2 seasons.

I loved last night's episode. awesome it was. And I actually like the Jason as "god" scene. It fit w/ his character, only someone as dumb as Jason would think of something like that. His whole rescue scene was funny.
I didn't read the book but I remember Eric saying earlier that Godric could've been the King of Texas if he wanted to.

Well for one in the book, the maenad was not the one killing people, it was the this group of freaky sex freaks. Also, the Maenad was like Sam's girlfriend. She was very dangerous and everyone was scared of her but in the book she wasn't interested in devouring the whole town. The other changes are kind of vital and I wonder if they are just going to do them later so I don't really want to say..

If I remember correctly, Sheriff's have areas of states they patrol and each state or maybe it's groups of states has a king or queen who are over the sheriffs, I believe it's each state but not 100% sure.

Godrick was only a sheriff because that's all he wanted to be. However, every vampire within a sheriff's district are compelled to listen to them and do as they ask which is why Bill has no control over Eric.

Ok cool, thanks. :yeah: Pretty big changes with Maryanne, but I think I like the crazy psycho-bitch Maryanne better. :rocker2: The Sheriff/King-Queen stuff makes sense too, thanks.

I actually liked the scene where Jason played as the God, becuase it was as stupid as Jason, but it was smart too, becuase all the people would believe it, and with that they save Sam and themselves, what I really want to see is the reaction of Maryanne when they told her, "God" has come

 My co-workers also had an issue with Sookie having the power to defeat Maryann. They wanted it to be Sam or even the drunk cop. I guess something about Sookie just annoys people. I'm really trying to figure out how Sookie got this new power? For some reason I thought that maybe Godrich gave her a new power right before he committed suicide but that seems far fetched.

During the True Blood round table discussion at Comic-con Charlene Harris said she was perfectly fine with the changes Alan Ball made for the series. On the other hand some of her loyal followers(who were fans of the books before the series) feel that HBO has ruined the original story by changing the personality of certain characters and sexing everything up.

Well they didn't change the story much from book one, had she seen season two? I'm glad she's ok with it because I'm sure it's given her a lot of new fans to her books. Hard core fans are great but they do tend to be nuts... :tape:

Alan Ball has made it clear that the series is about Bill and Sookie.....Does that mean they are going to be together forever who knows? I too am glad about the changes because I have no idea what to expect anymore.....Having read all the books, it seemed to me that Charlaine Harris gave sookie a revolving door of boyfriends because she need to keep thing interesting. I too will miss Calisto(Mary-anne) and Sam frolicking in the woods

I still have two books to read/listen too but up till now I don't think Sookie has had a revolving door ala Anita Blake... but I think she's trying to show a progression from Bill being her first and only love to someone else.

This episode was a little slow for me. Thought ERW was really good as the Queen, but the part with her and Bill was drawn out too much I thought. Wasn't a huge fan of this episode in general, until the part where Sookie goes in the creepy-as-fuck house with all those weirdos, that part was pretty cool.

Hope the finale's way better. Who wants to bet on who the "vessel" Maryanne chooses is? Is it Sam, like they seemed to have been pointing to earlier? Sookie, with her faerie powers? Jason, who all women want to fuck? No clue.

mixed bag this episode. Some good scenes and some scenes that careened almost to the point of being ridiculous. I'm kinda not liking how the season went story wise as a whole. The characters are fantastic and that's what's making the show so great, well that and the crazy stuff that happens. I hope next season they have a better more cohesive story.

I was discussing seasonII with a friend. It's as if the show is completely opposite from seasonI. On first season, there was a mystery killer, and the storyline was a little more realistic(though more streamlined). SeasonII has several different stories going on, and it's a little difficult to follow or even enjoy @ times.

^^ I have to agree with you. The Maryann storyline has potential but they decided to drag it too longer in particular orgy parties which I think it's not necessary to show repetitive. Same could say about the Dallas storyline. Both sub-plots has make up toward the ending, though.

Good news or bad news rather for those people whom read the book series, Charlaine Harris (the author) says the show will be on its own after this season so that means we won't meet the witches from fourth book

That may piss alot of Eric fans off......Without the witches, you don't get ........no spoilers just in case. Book 2 was perhaps the weakest book in the series, so Alan Ball had to come up with something. Since he did not kill Lafeyette, he had to create a new story line......This is the result.
