^^ I have to agree with you. The Maryann storyline has potential but they decided to drag it too longer in particular orgy parties which I think it's not necessary to show repetitive. Same could say about the Dallas storyline. Both sub-plots has make up toward the ending, though.

Good news or bad news rather for those people whom read the book series, Charlaine Harris (the author) says the show will be on its own after this season so that means we won't meet the witches from fourth book

I kind of suspected we weren't going to get the Eric storyline when they changed the whole Dallas storyline.. with Bill and his maker.

I guess this series is something I need to read because I have no idea what you are all talking about.

I loved ERW as the Queen. She was much better than I ever expected. I'm also loving the marayanne character but I guess there's no place for her to go but dead.

Is Lafayatte in the book or is he a new character?

I love this show. It makes me wish Alan Ball did something with Blood Ties because Tanya Huff has a great series that could've lasted more than two seasons.

I may just wait to read this when the series is over because I don't want to be disappointed.

Don't read further in this post if you don't want to know what happened to Callisto (Maryann in the show) in the book series, she didn't die. She escaped and hasn't return to Bon Temps since then.

Not true.......She did not escape as no one was trying to capture her.......She and Sam become lovers and frolic in the bushes of Bon Temps for some time... In the book she is not the one killing people, but she helps resolve the problem.

Actually, you're right. She came to Bon Temps for a tribute from Eric to kill the people who murdered Lafayette as well as everyone at the sex party except Tara and Eggs. I got it right this time?

So I started watching this about a month ago because so many people I know are obsessed with it. I finally just caught up to the current episode and didnt want to come into this thread to early so I wouldnt spoil anything for myself. Anyways the show is entertaining enough. It does enough for me to cause me to continue watching, but I dont think its all that special. Is the hype worth it? I really dont think so, but I will continue to watch I guess. I am pretty excited for the finale regardless.

However I will say the scene where Godric dies is hands down the best moment in the show for me so far, superb acting from all 3, Godric, Sookie, and Eric, and just really well done. Loved the character of Godric and loved his exit. Ahh if there are more moments like that one in the future of this series I will consider myself much more of a fan.

This is probably one of the best shows on TV, so yes the hype is definitely deserved. Season 1 was one of the best I have seen and this season was a bit slow, but the characters are really well written and its just a fun show.

Agree with your choice of Godric's exit as the best moment in this show.

As for the show overall - the dialogue can veer into unbelievable, soap opera-esque territory at times, and the pacing of the episodes isn't always right, but I think in general there are some great characters and storylines here, and that justifies the hype.

This is an entertaining show. I still don't think that I'd call it a great show; certainly not when compared to other shows which actually do qualify as high quality TV. I assume that those who think this is great TV, simply haven't had the pleasure of watching really great TV before (ie: The Wire). Perhaps I'm being a TV snob here, but it is what it is.

The internet outrage that sparked after the Emmy's failed to nominate TB for Best Drama was hilarious. Honestly, which of the shows up for that award is TB actually better than? The vastly superior Breaking Bad? Critically acclaimed Mad Men? Lost? Dexter? Hells no. I'm not sure I'd even consider it better than good old reliable House! Now, I don't watch Damages and Big Love, so maybe it's better than those.

I was disappointed by that Season Finale as well. I can't believe they killed Maryanne within the first like 25 minutes? And the only way they could do it was to trick her and have Sam become bull?

Then the second half, yes everyone trying to get back to normal, but it was quite dull, still I can't wait to see next season. :)

the Finale was anti-climatic for sure and I couldn't help think the ending of the second book was more interesting than the MaryAnn storyline turned out to be. However, still looking forward to next season. :)

I wasn't a big fan of the Finale (just watched it).

I was always a big fan of the MaryAnne storyline (never read the books), and thought her character brought a lot to the show - which is why I was really pissed off at how she died. If they were going to make her story only part of Season 2, a sort of subplot, then the ending would have worked fine. But they stretched it out so long and built her up to be really evil and psycho...only to have her turn into a complete farce! It was like right after ERW told Bill Maenads were petty, stupid creatures...MaryAnne obliged and turned into an idiot, when she had actually been pretty sinister and creepy all season. Not cool. Like that Sam did her in, and the way she died wasn't bad, it was just the complete 180 her "personality" took in the last episode and a half.

I wish some more people had died. I don't like that everyone's A-OK. Weird that Eggs gets killed, just random. Also random that Jessica's fooling around with truckers. And Bill proposing? WTF?

A whole bunch of random shit in this episode IMO. Liked it, because now Season 3 can start fresh hopefully with some cool things - Eric making his move on Sookie, Sam looking for his parents (werewolves probably?), and seeing just how often Tara can get screwed over. :tape:

Who?

Just kidding. That's why God invented Google.

Anyway, the finale:

I thought that the first half was thoroughly entertaining. I couldn't believe only 27 minutes or so had passed once they started cleaning the town up. The rest dragged. Honestly, I could do without individual scenes of Sookie and Bill. They have absolutely no on screen chemistry and just suck the life out of every scene they're thrown together in. Combined with other, more interesting characters, they're fine. Gah.

Uh, I forget what else happened. I'm sort of stuck on that point.

Oh, right, Eggs. Whatever. Convenient and expected that nobody important died. I mean, Maryanne did, but it was more or less a foregone conclusion that they'd get rid of her one way or another.

Now, next season, Tara will be all sad and angsty, and act out in inappropriate ways. Snore. That's a B plot I will pass on.

And I completely agree about Sookie and Bill, for a real life couple they really have absolutely no on screen chemistry to the point of me just begging for the scene to end.

I hope season 3 goes more into the direction season 1 went in. That was a much more enjoyable season overall for me.

Okay I finally got around to watching some of it, the first 8 episodes and I hope it gets better after those. I mean its good but not great, which is probably why you shouldnt have expectations before you watch something haha.

Sookie actually annoys me, I dont know if its the actress or just the character or both, but she kind of bugs me. And Bill, I like that he's still got a scaryness to him and he's not some prettied up Vampire, but I guess thats one good quality True BLood had unlike some other Vampire stories. But still he's not as appealing as he should be really.

Put me in the camp who's actually really enjoying this third season. I didn't like the premire at all and I thought that would be telling for the rest of this season but to my surprise I've found myself caring more and exciting about the following weeks episodes.

Yeah I feel this way too. Tara's interesting now, and Franklin is creepy/psychotic. Plus I like that they brought Laraina (sp??) back, I want more backwards-head sex.

I think this season's benefitting some good characters being introduced/involved, and Bookie being separated makes everything better. I care more about whats happening than I did all Season 2.

Only storyline I hate is Jason's. :weirdo: Dude, you're not a cop.

The only storyline I am remotely interested in is the V drug trade and its been put to the back burner. Even the characters have all mellowed out. 100% Agreed. All the storylines this season (except Jason's) are a lot more enjoyable than any were all of season 2. It's like they're back on track and the excitement of the first season is seeping back in again. Although there seems to be a ton of characters now I don't feel overwhelmed. And separating Bill and Sookie was a smart decision I just wished they could have stayed apart a little longer to build for the climatic reunion.

Ditto. I liked Season One Tara and her "take-no-crap" attitude. I loved her whole relationship with Lafayette and the kind of harsh-but-hilarious intimacy they had and how, when push came to shove, they had each others backs. (Sign me up as another viewer that couldn't care less about  cardboard cut-outs like Bill and Sook-eh.) Also appreciated the fact that despite being very defensive and hot-tempered she was the character that demonstrated the most insight and perception into other people's dilemmas and situations - *without* having telepathy. (Even with her telepathy I find Sookie so damn dense, self-involved and irritating.) So of course they couldn't resist beating the character with the tragedy and trauma stick. I didn't loathe Tara in Season 2 - I just loathed the passive character arc that they landed her with in Season 2. Tara is at her best as a characer when she's alert, witty, upfront and actually DOING things as opposed to spending her time being a possessed pawn or screaming in abject terror.

Haven't been impressed by the Franklin arc much either or the overtones of it (I can't believe some people are trying to play up that messed up dynamic as a grand 'romance') but if it finally shakes her out of passivity and allows her to rediscover what made her interesting to being with, then so be it.

ETA: Lafayette *finally* gets some romance. Don't trust the show not to screw it up, for the time being it's sweet.

Sookie is a fairy in the books, it's revealed later in the 6th or 7th book. That's why her blood is so different and delicious and it's where her 'power' comes from. They couldn't ignore that part of the story, as it is still (somewhat loosely) based on the novels.

I've liked True Blood a lot this season. It's the best since Season 1 for me. Last year was just awful, so it can only be better in comparison I guess. Instead of worrying about True Blood, I am worrying about the mess that has become Weeds. :tears:
The new Weeds season opener has been leaked online (if it hasn't been on TV already at this point?). While the show deteriorates in quality, Silas becomes more attractive each season.

I like this episode a lot for some reason. First 3/4 was chill, unwinding a bit and giving everyone a chance to regroup. Last 10-15 minutes was insanity, I loved it. Except for the gay humping, and that was even cool because Talbot got a spear in the back.

Oh, I don't mind that it was graphic; I mind that it was wasted on Bill and Sookie.

I know. So boring and I find it amazing that no-one is noting just how damn creepy and dysfunctional Bill and Sookie are and what a co-dependent moron she is for going back to him. He's keeping tabs on her family lineage, is using her for her blood, he almost killed her and he's incredibly manipulative - yet this is bieng treated as if it's the height of romance.

And let's face it, the gay love scenes don't get nearly as much screen time or attention as the straight ones. The Laffy and Jesus' 'sex' scenes are barely even that - they're all implied and even their kisses are almost literally kept in the dark . And Eric/Talbot was just a cop out really and the typical gay guy winds up dead scenario.

I wonder how much more of Tara being sacrificed in the narrative just for kicks, or in order to rescue Sookie's dumb, damsel-in-distress ass we'll have to put up with...

Anyway, I blame BOTH Paquin and Moyer. Paquin is just not a particularly good actress anyway (yeah, yeah she was in "The Piano" but I just don't feel that she's developed much since then. And the way she plays Sookie is the same way she played Rogue from X-Men, even down to the terribly fake scream.) I find her hard to tolerate no matter who she's with, though I agree that she's marginally better when Bill is out of sight.

I prefer the slower pace, actually. Didn't like how frenetic things were last season. The characters this season have more depth/meat to them. And the visuals are more intriguing.

But maybe it's because I've only just started watching; must be a different effect to go through the episodes in a row.

My only quibble with the last epi is Eric's sudden change-up re: Sookie. A bit of a writer's glitch it seemed.

Solid episode, great to start with Pam, who always delivers. Intriguing to end with Eric contemplating going the way of his maker/father/mother, though they could've developed the psych/emotions of his choice/plan a bit more.

Guess its my preference, but I'm definitely digging the layered, non-stock characterization this season. Perhaps, though, they should've budgeted for more episodes to the season? The writers are having to unfold the layers a bit too rapidly in certain places (Eric, Sam/Tara) and nicely paced in others. Jason/Panther/Quarterback, Lafayette/Jesus Hoyt/Jessica cannot be resolved in the 1 episode left, not without rushing or skipping things....

I think this season's ending is going to be a big WTF cliff-hanger with a lot of the plotlines; last two have been real tidy, and without a big buildup to the finale I think it'll be batshit crazy for awhile and end without resolving everything.

Predictions?

That new waitress is trouble...duh. Spawn of satan baby?

Eric and Russell won't die in the Sun like that. Pam drags Eric in, taking Russell along too?

And ptken... the fairy scene at the beginning I will agree was a little strange, but I didn't have a problem with it. As for Tara, who says she is simply a lesbian, she could be bisexual, she never mentioned it before because she never had to, besides with all the shit that has happened to her with men, can you blame her?

Well I'll ask you like I asked LeRoy, what would you do? What would you write?

People like to criticize and complain but they don't offer examples of what they would do.

So tell me CJ, what would you write the characters to do?

Oh I do enjoy the show, its one of my favorites on television and has been since Season 1.

What I don't like is people criticizing something and not offering up any alternatives. I mean the way people are writing, its like they know what would be better for the show, so I'm eager to hear what they have to say or what they would come up with. So far... nothing.

I think this season so far is quite good.
Last season IMO fell pray to "too many cast members, too diluted plotlines".

 Im not a writer, I shouldnt have to offer up alternatives. I can criticize the show however I want if I am not enjoying it as much as I did early on. Its not the storylines that bother me as much as its the random traits the characters themselves take on. They are so all over the place. There has been very little growth in terms of any of them. I will say though that Sookie used to be my least favorite character but Sookie has been very entertaining in the end of season 3 and start of this season. Sookie on her own >>>>>>>>>>> Sookie with Bill.

It's true you are not a writer and that is why it seems you cannot come up with alternatives.

I'll agree with you on the Sookie on her own is better than when she is with Bill, that went on for so long and it was growing quite boring.

As for there being very little growth, well we have to realize that the timeline hasn't been all that long for the 3 seasons. Weren't they all set within just about the same month or couple of months? Its only now that we have been thrust a year ahead.

THIS. So wait, now she's "Toni", and aggressive lesbian MMA fighter? Who lies about her friends and family and doesn't care that Sookie's back? Riiiight. I feel like after Season 1 the whole Tara/Sookie friendship seemed really forced. END IT.

I agree with whoever said Tara could be bisexual, she doesn't need to fit into the straight-gay dichotomy. I really don't see how her having a relationship with a woman is out of character or even particularly surprising. On a list of WTF storylines in True Blood, Tara being with a woman is really, really far down on the list.

Though I agree Tara has only gotten less likeable since the first season; it feels like she's become so helpless and disposable. Hopefully they start to do something with her character again soon.

I have mixed feelings about the first 2 episodes.

The fairy thing at the start I found interesting enough actually, and Sookie in general was more likable than usual.

Tara :boring: Have no interest in her whatsoever. Same with Sam, he is possibly the most pointless character on the show. I had totally forgotten about the hillbilly panthers before the season started back. Not that interesting.

Bill's woman/lover person was really boring, I know she is only a secondary character but I didn't find she had any sex appeal whatsoever, thats probably an odd thing to pick up on.

The Arlene baby thing seems odd and Pam is a legend as usual

^For sure.

I was watching youtube clips of some of my favorite tv show moments tonight and this one is definitely up there. This is True Blood at its best. Well acted, so much character dynamics going on, and still kind of over the top and absurd. Godric was a great character. Too bad we didnt get to see more of him. "Are you very afraid?" "No, no, Im full of joy." "But the pain." "I want to burn." "Im afraid for you." I just love that part for some reason.

As someone who hated the first episode, I think the show has picked up the last two episodes. I actually like the new Tara these last two episodes, she's not spending her time moping. Tara and Lafayette's scenes are always hilarious when they're together.

This season is falling into the same routine; some action mixed with boring storylines (Sam, Tomy, Andy) and capped off with one cool spell.

Still, didn't mind the episode. I want to know whats going to happen with Aclide and Debbie, the Evil Baby, Pam, Fairies etc. Like the casting of Marnie; offbeat, but a good actress I think and its a nice role.

Nan Flanigan might be my favorite character. Total bad ass.

Hi! New True Blood fan here :D
In the last week I did a lot of catching up and I watched today the episode from yesterday. I have to say, that this show is completely messed up but that's what makes it so likeable for me, pretty much in every episode there are things that leave me like this :speakles: My favourite season was season 2 with that crazy ass bitch who was hipnotizing everybody, true madness

My favourite character is Eric  I also love Pam, her lines always still the show imo. Just like Eric's too  I still can't stand Bill with his old fashioned language (can he like disappear) but I've learned to tolerate Sookie which I thought was impossible after season 1. I used to like Jason a lot, especially when he joined the Fellowship of the Sun and how he started fighting them, he was absolutely hilarious but now they messed up his character and that story how he was held by this crazy people and raped was weird at least. Pretty much the same happened with Lafayette since he started dating that Mexican guy, soooo boring.
Overall, this show is sooo amazing. I'm glad I started watching it :D

I really can't stand Bill. He is on such a power trip. I hated the way the Queen Sophie Anne died. He couldn't even do it himself:o

The crazy baby/ghost in house storyline is interesting. Along with the witches. Marney is very intriguing:lol: I liked what they did with Eric, it is fun to see him lose his memory and be clueless and kill Sookie's fairy godmother. But what they did to Pam was just cruel. She better not stay that way:lol:

The other stuff pretty much sucks. Tara going back to her boring life. At least she got some spunk back this season and the end of last season. Jessica:( Got stuck in a boring ass life thanks to Hoyt. Jessica is great, but dragged down by him.:o Hopefully the Jason angle makes it somewhat appealing.

Really liked this episode. I never hated Bill as much as everyone else, so I'm glad to see he's kind of cool now. Should be interesting to see what happens when he gets to Sookie's house. :o

I just wish the storylines would be more connected; this isn't a daytime soap, I don't want to care or follow 12 stories - I want one main plot (witches, which is good so far) and the main characters to be more involved in that than their tiny shit (like Season 2, which I didn't mind).

Glad that Tommy's scumbag parents finally got what they deserved.
