Thread about 90210 television show:

After reading this post (http://www.anaivanovic.com/forum/topic.php?id=792&p=25) at anaivanovic.com's forum I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread.

90210 Season Premier

The new 90210 television show was on tonight, halfway done if you're on the west coast, did anyone watch it, and if so, can they relate to it?

It's techinically the first season, but for me it is the eleventh season, since I watched the original in 1990 after I got back from Yugoslavia knowing there would be a civil war; therefore, the three pigs being held back from escaping brought back memories. I don't know if people on Ana's site can recall Aaron Spelling's last interview after the original series ending when he said, "you dirty people" and proceeded to wipe away his tears, but I think the just of it is "be nice or else there will be misery in peoples lives that could get worse and worse."

I used to love this show! It may be interesting to see the grown up versions of the characters as long as they don’t bring back the weary “love triangle” dramas. That’s how the show actually went downhill. The very early “closer to reality” season of the show was worth watching.

Never seen even a second of the original, so my opinion is definitely as a new viewer and I like it so far and I was totally expecting to loathe it. Its like the Californian less-cool and less-dramatic version of Gossip Girl. It started cheesy and Disney, until the kid was getting a blowjob in the car. The casting is great so far. I'm bad with names, so bear with me.

- Momma Bluthe is great as the drunken grandmother. :hearts:

- Lori Loughlin is the MILFiest of MILFs

'90210' is CW's highest-rated scripted series premiere

UPDATED: The premiere of the CW's "90210" -- arguably the most crucial series of the fall season -- became the highest-rated scripted debut in the network's two-year history.

Tuesday's two-hour premiere was seen by 4.9 million viewers and garnered a 2.6 rating among adults 18-40. That surpasses the CW's previous scripted record in the adult demo by 18%, set by a premiere of the long-running cult favorite "Smallville" (2.2). The "90210" number also ties the network's premiere record once reached by reality hit "America’s Next Top Model." The CW enjoyed a rare full-night victory, besting all broadcast competitors to win the evening in the adult demo. Among the network's women 18-34 target, "90210" was the CW's highest-rated scripted telecast ever (4.3/12).

"I was really thrilled, I was relieved, I was excited," said CW entertainment president Dawn Ostoff when asked her reaction to the numbers. "I knew this would appeal to a broader audience than our other shows. We are really happy with the Nielsen numbers, I really think this show is going to soak into the zeitgeist."

TV critics were braced for disaster after CW refused to send out screener copies of the show (the debut was actually reworked until nearly the last minute). But most critics were generally pleased with the result, calling the show a serviceable-if-tame update of the 1990s original.

The "90210" returns are considered to have outsized importance. No network has more riding on a single show than the CW has on "90210." If the CW does not improve, industry insiders have whispered this summer, corporate parents Warner Bros. and CBS Corp. might fold the network. And of all the CW's new shows, only the teen soap sequel was considered to have a real shot of significantly moving the needle. To paraphrase the network's "90210" slogan, the CW is living by the code.

"It needs to be something that is surprising," a company insider said last week of the "90210" rating. "An 'I didn't know the CW could do that kind of number' number."

By setting a new scripted record, last night's tally could fit the bill. Combined with "Gossip Girl" showing some growth on Monday, "90210" should give CW some breathing room if the show can continue to carry a fair amount of its number into next week. Now that's a big If, since last night doubtless contained a significant amount of one-time curiosity tune-in.

"I think it's probably excessive to pin the survival of a network on a single show, but unquestionably the relaunch of this well-known franchise is going to be inordinately important in bringing some heat back to the CW, and forestalling further erosion of their audience," TV historian Tim Brooks said. "Youth-oriented networks, more than anyone, need heat."

The "90210" numbers also improved over the course of the show's two hours among all key demographics, which is a hopeful sign that audiences remained engaged in the show.

"Part of the news this morning that made me feel really good is seeing how every half hour built," Ostroff said. "In the 11th hour, I wondered about whether this was the right decision to put the two hours back to back. It’s a lot of drama. But people really liked these characters."

Also: In its second week in its new time period, NBC's "America's Got Talent" (10.6 million viewers, 2.8/8) posted a Tuesday low. Fox placed second with repeats, followed by NBC, CBS led by "Big Brother" (6.5 million 2.4/6) and ABC, which aired the finale of "Wanna Bet" (3.9 million, 1.5/4). Convention ratings will be posted later today.

UPDATE: For the three or so CW viewers that didn't catch it the first time, the network just announced it will air an encore of the two-hour "90210" premiere on Thursday, Sept. 4.

Actually, Tori Spelling decides not to return to 90210 because Shannon Doherty and Jennie Garth are getting paid more, and they refuse to pay her as much.

Spelling Leaves the Zip

Tori Spelling has reportedly left The CW’s reboot of “90210″ over pay disputes. The actor was officially signed to reprise her role as Donna Martin alongside fellow 90210 alumni Shannon Doherty and Jennie Garth, but has since left the zip because her co-stars Doherty and Garth are reportedly earning $35,000 - $50,000 an episode, compared to Spelling’s $10,000 - $20,000 an episode.

While she may have a point, let me ask, does anyone really want Spelling back anyway? Wasn’t she only enlisted at first because no other original stars had signed on yet?

Is she even worth $20,000? I think $20,000 could be more wisely spent on building a soft padded room for Doherty…oh no I didn’t!

That's probably closer to the truth.

Though really, what did she expect ? Her character was boring at the best of times and we all know she only got the part because she's Aaron Spelling's daughter.

Speaking of which I doubt she even needs the money - her father was loaded.

CW says Doherty's '90210' adventure might continue. Garth signs on for more...

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Shannen Doherty has finished filming on CW's "90210," but don't bet that sequel to "Beverly Hills 90210" has seen the last of Brenda Walsh.

"Shannen signed on for four episodes, which she has shot. It was Shannen's way of thanking her fans," said Gary Mantoosh, a spokesman for Doherty. "If the CW comes back with an offer for additional episodes, she's happy to consider it."

In a statement Friday, the series said it would "love for her to do more" and there's "definitely" a possibility that could happen.

In "90210," Brenda returns to alma mater West Beverly High as a theater success who's agreed to direct a school musical.

Meanwhile, the show said that Jennie Garth, who played student Kelly Taylor on the original Fox series and is a guidance counselor on "90210," will add five more episodes to the six she's already filmed.

The next episode, airing Tuesday, has prompted online buzz among fans: In a conversation between Kelly and Brenda, the father of Kelly's 4-year-old son is revealed, and it's someone from her "Beverly Hills 90210" past.

The actresses, who feuded on and off the set of the original show and hadn't spoken in years, have said their reunion on the new series went smoothly despite some pre-filming jitters.

That's the way Brandon would haved handled it. With that said it is my assumption that a women

So maybe the father is Steve! But she was talking to Brenda about Brandon at Nat's Peach Pit and how he said she was beautiful and also receiving a 3AM telephone call from Brandon! Maybe that was the bedroom telephone conversation when she said Sammy was asking about you. But its possible the time wasn't 3AM. But then Sammy was playfull silly when throwing his cereal into the air to catch it. That is something Steve's character would do! Oh, the suspense who the father is.

Did you know that the actress who plays Jackie is now a priest .
---------------------------------------------------------------

Ann Gillespie goes from '90210' 'hood to the priesthood; back for guest shot on CW drama

September 8, 2008

LOS ANGELES (AP) _ "Beverly Hills 90210" fans discover in Tuesday's episode of the "90210" sequel that Kelly Taylor's troubled mother, Jackie, hasn't changed much.

The same can't be said for Ann Gillespie, who plays Jackie: She's gone from actress to Episcopal priest.

Between sermons, weddings and funerals at Christ Church in Alexandria, Va., the Rev. Gillespie squeezed in an appearance on "90210," CW's follow-up to the hit Fox series that aired from 1990-2000.

In reprising her role as mom to Jennie Garth's Kelly, Gillespie was sorry to find out that Jackie still is battling alcoholism.

"She actually seems to be worse off than at the end of the last series," Gillespie said. "My own desire was to have the character become healthier because, of course, that's what I'm devoting my life to."

Gillespie, 51, married to actor Jeff Allin and mother of two teenagers, began re-evaluating her professional life several years ago. Roles for older women are conspicuously scarce in Hollywood, she said, but more important was her changing perspective.

"I felt my values crystallize in me as I was raising my children, and I wasn't crazy that I was giving myself to a business that wasn't putting out the best values," particularly when it came to film and TV images of young girls as "thin and oversexualized," Gillespie said.

Her decision to turn to the priesthood reflected a family tradition: Her father, the Rev. David Gillespie, 81, is a retired Episcopal priest.

Ann Gillespie earned a master's degree in divinity in 2007 after three years of study at a Virginia seminary and became the priest at Alexandria's historic Christ Church, where George Washington worshipped.

Although she's turned her skills from acting to preaching — "It's not as gigantic a leap as people might think" — Gillespie welcomed the chance to revisit her "90210" past.

"When I went to do the episode, it was like riding a bicycle. The character of Jackie Taylor was right there and waiting," she said.

She had an "absolutely delightful reunion" with Garth during filming, Gillespie said.

"I always loved working with her. ... I'm so proud of the decisions she's made in her life. She was around when I was nursing my baby, and I was around when she was nursing hers," she said of Garth, who has three children.

Many of Gillespie's parishioners are "excited about the buzz that their priest is on a television show," she said. And the new series has brought her in contact with "Beverly Hills 90210" loyalists.

"I got an e-mail from a fan who said she was coming to church to meet me. I thought, 'Whatever it takes to get them in the door,'" Gillespie said.

Perry Set For TV Return on 90210?

SPOILER ALERT: Luke Perry is under pressure to return to Beverly Hills after his beloved TV character Dylan McKay was named the father of Kelly Taylor's son on Beverly Hills, 90210 spin-off 90210 on Tuesday night.

Only Jennie Garth, who revives her role as Taylor in the new show, Joe E Tata and Shannen Doherty agreed to return to the famous address for the new series - but now Garth is hoping the bombshell, which aired on Tuesday will bring Perry back.

Garth says, "I would love to work with Luke again. I love him dearly."

The actor and former co-star Jason Priestley have turned down attempts to bring them back to 90210 and Doherty has walked away from the spin-off after filming her contracted four episodes.

90210 has been picked up for the entire year.

I think it will last even longer because of the way they lable the show's episodes; for instance, this year's episode six (last night's episode) is labeled 1.06. Meaning "1" is the first season and the "06" means the 6th episode.

I agree this series is way more interesting, every episode has another OMG moment.

I prefer 90210 to Gossip Girl, It gets a little boring and predictable. 90210 is more outrageous and shocking. But The CW really does amazing programming.

I haven't watched the new Melrose Place yet is it any good.

 u didnt see the final episode

Lucky for u i saw the repeat the other night. I think wat happened is he saw silver accept her award for prom queen and she said somethin along the lines of "thank u but i know who i am and who im not. and i am not a glamor loving prom queen" etc. ect.
And thats wen he really started liking her (which led to the kiss). But before the kiss he went to that teacher guy n said "thanks but no thanks i may not know what i want to do but i know its not Lacrosse blah blah Im moving to my parents in Colorado or sum place"

N that was pretty much The End.............of Ethan
and Lacrosse lol
