Sveta is the most recent USO champion in the field.
And they are honoring past champions, so Sveta will probably be out there with the other USO champions.
She's going to be the #3 seed, but she has to play like a 3 seed to get anywhere.

Well, she won the US Open in 2004. That was a leap year, and it came just after the Olympics. So hopefully this year will be a repeat.
Yes, we're all worried about her form of late. She just wants to do well, and I think part of the problem is that she just puts too much pressure on herself and then she can't perform. So, she has the skills, and the fitness, so let's hope she can get on with the job, and win it again!!

When Sveta won the USO, she had lost 1st round Wimbledon, and early in the Olympics.
Nobody was picking her as a USO contender.

I found this posted on GM:

Walking into the grounds at Flushing, I first hit up the Grandstand and Armstrong. We were watching Kuznetsova practice in a sports bra, blue shorts, and headband...When Ana went down to practice, she stood and chatted with Sveta for a solid 5-7 minutes (obv. Communicating in English). Ana was using this weird green strappy thing to stretch out her wrists and forearms while she talked to Sveta. Kuznetsova asked if Ivanovic enjoyed Beijing as a city and she said she did. Then Kuznetsova told Ana that she spent a lot of time watching basketball during the Olympics, and then my friend and I thought we heard Sveta say that she spent some time in Australia cuz she loves it there. I guess thatís potentially true because she lost early in Beijing and the flight wouldnít be too ridiculous to Oz from China. But they were really really chatty and friendly with each other. Later during qualifying week, we saw Kuznetsova being super chatty as well with Radwanska, so perhaps the Russian is one of the more popular players on tour. We got a picture with her as well before she left the court.

Disaster. Not much I can say that I haven't said in these fora already these recent weeks.
Maybe she puts herself under too much pressure.
She'll be well down in the rankings now because obviously she loses her points from USOpen last year.

Света_мой_№1
Aug 30th, 2008, 11:38 AM
well I care more about the fact she left the court crying and was already crying before matchpoint. at this point I dont care about ranking. never seen her crying before

Bероника
Aug 30th, 2008, 11:49 AM
well the ranking thing is not that bad, obviously it will make her draws more difficult, and no more bye,but this can be a good thing afterall. As I said some weeks ago I care more about results than ranking. She can go up again next year when she won't have that much to defend, less pressure then, because I think that's been part of the problem this year, not sure what it is now.I guess it's a mix of lacking confidence, specially with her serve (she won the toss and chosed to receive, against a player who serves so good like srebotnik I found that a bit strange),maybe not enough motivation (but on the other hand when you see her cry over a tennis result, you can really see she cares a lot of doing it good),and maybe some other things we don't know.

Cheers up,Sveta  we'll be here in bad moments

damn, now I'm not even sure she'll be selected to play fed cup and play in madrid, but if she does I promise to cheer her the loudest I can.At the moment I have difficulties finding any excitement for that fed cup and it shouldn't be that way.

She is too good of a player to stay lowly ranked for long. I hope she will come back up again and soon.I hope she is chosen to play for Fed Cup.

Aug 30th, 2008, 09:30 PM
The rumours I've heard (pre USO) were that Sveta was going to play Fed Cup.
I hope so, and I kind of wish she plays doubles this Fall with Mauresmo.
Maybe Mauresmo will bring her dogs for the European leg of the tour and Sveta
can get some unconditional puppy love.

Oh My  :bigcry: I have no words, I feel so sorry for Svetlana.
I missed the match, does anyone have it? maybe some highlights?
Someone from Israel's tennis forum describe Sveta's situation in the best way it can describe and I'm totally agree with him:

"From a purely professional standpoint, Svetlana has the skills to be on the top and she has essentially been there from 2004 (excluding end of 2005). She has an excellent serve; very varied. She has not only strength but also exactness. She is an excellent player from the baseline; her forehand is lethal. She plays very well next to the net; her footwork is a little bit problematic sometimes, but she is very strong despite the fact that she isnít very tall. Like many top tennis players, she has a mental problem. She is still young. Under pressure, she tends to make wrong decisions and in several tournaments, she sometimes reaches the wrong side of an important match. She simply feels like a loser and not like a winner. In my opinion, she has to refresh her training team and try something new. She can definitely be #1 in the world. She just needs to free herself from the psychological block she has with the strong feeling she has of being a loser."
