For fans of Wynne there are two websites. One is her official web site... I don't like it so much. The other website is an information websites that gives swift updates about her results and any news that is picked up. There is also a guestbook where people give little tibbits of information about her.

Here are the links:

I think the site looks really great :) I have contacted the webmaster to put guestbook there. But he said for now it's still unlikely, because he is afraid of people posting something inappropriate there. But he's still considering the option :)

He also mentioned that the address are not officially released and it's still trial and error. Hence there was "bla bla bla" before. He's quite surprised actually that many people have gone there, and where we got the address from :)

So far, the news is quite updated, even though it's still in Indonesian :(. But if you guys are curious to know, just post here, and I am happy to translate it ;) So far, it's all about Asian Games.

The best thing is that Wynne will get our message when we submit message in "Contact Wynne" field. Hopefully she has a chance to reply to us :)

Wynne is gearing yp for 2003! She says that she is going to focus on her single...70% and double is only 30%...I heard that she says goodbye to her coach, Suzanna, former national player...She is thinking to have foreign coach soon...Well, she will not have problem to have foreign partner since she used to be in a tennis camp in her junior year in the land of Hana Mandlikova! Good luck, Wynne!:wavey: :wavey: :wavey:

Guys...I found out the news here locally when she was interviewed on local TV. You maybe right, in terms of relationship, it may be better to stay with Suzanna. I do not know, I never impress with her when she was an active player representing Indonesia with Yayuk...Suzanna has been okay as coach...I reckon...Angie's coach, Deddy, was not a great player when he was active as player but as coach, so far he has been well-noted by the public...Of course, there are some people who criticize him a lot...Let us just wait, it is not official yet...  :wavey:

From wynne'w website:

Wynne said that she won't change Suzanna as her coach... Also she will stay partnering with Janet Lee for 2003... She is focussing in single next year, and will play more of below Tier 3 tournaments instead of Tier 1 & 2...

Hope her single ranking will improve a lot next year :)

Yes, Wynne has confirmed that she will stay with Suzanna as her coach! And she is keeping Janet as her dbl partner as well...She is focusing on tier III - V in 2003 as strategy to raise her ranking? We will see whether it is working or not...She was vacationing in Solo, Central Java - her hometown...She is happy with this luxurious break since she can attend mass at church more...She is also practicing hard in Jakarta and she is going straight to Aussie Open without any warm-up tournament!

V.Melb
Dec 11th, 2002, 12:40 PM
I don't see the logic in that at all. It seems all asian tennis players that are talented are plagued by stupidity. Not playing any lead up tourneys is the dumbest thing i have ever thought of. exactly who is advising her to do that?!

Dec 12th, 2002, 08:58 AM
It is Wynne's solid belief by skipping any lead-up tourneys prior to Aussie Open...I do not understand why she wants to focus on post OZ Open tourneys...I am sure she has the answer to keep it herself...So, be there in Melbourne and have great output! You have the capacity to reach at least 3rd round! Wishing you the best!  :wavey:

rhz
Dec 13th, 2002, 05:14 PM
I guess Wynne want to have a longer break! it's been a very long year for her in 2002! by skipping those warmup tournies, she could save her energy and hopefully play well in tournaments after OZ open. I can't wait until she announces her schedule. Yes she needs to play in tier 3,4 and 5 more often! If i were her, i will choose...

Melbourne, India, Doha, Dubai then take a rest and play in the US beginning with Indian Wells and Key Biscayne, then play Sarasota and Charleston, she could play Amelia Island too if she wants but i think it's asking too much and she will wear herself off! She might want to consider to play just doubles in Charleston or Amelia Island.

Rising Sun
Dec 13th, 2002, 05:57 PM
She might very well want to save her energy for the tourney plus post-Aus Open tourneys, but the Aus Open is where all the major points are. Without match practice, she might very well end up in the bottom end against more well match-prepared opponents.

Only time will tell...

Anyway, I totally agree with Vixen. ;)

Actually, I think Wynne's schedule is very good.

As I've mentioned before, I'd prefer if she played warm-up events before Aus Open, but that's old news by now.

Here is a Tier description of her schedule:

Aus Open (GS)
Tokyo (Tier I)
Hyderabad (Tier IV)
Doha (Tier III)
Dubai (Tier II)
Indian Wells (Tier I)
Miami (Tier I)

I feel that she's already making an effort to play lower tier events. Tokyo, Indian Wells and Miami are the only tournaments during those weeks so it's no surprise she's playing them. As for Dubai, there are smaller tournaments that week, but we shouldn't ask her to fly to the Americas straight after Doha.

Keep up the good scheduling Wynne. :)

Steveg
Dec 14th, 2002, 04:42 PM
A lower tier tournament in America would be a good practice before the main Tier I events in USA  .

King Aaron

5 tournaments in a row :o

Rising Sun
Dec 14th, 2002, 05:19 PM
Actually, there is no lower tier American event before Indian Wells except for Memphis (Tier III) which is on the same week as Dubai and the week straight after Doha but an indoor tournament, therefore completely no practice for the hardcourt events to follow, but there is a Tier II event right before Indian Wells (Scottsdale), which would mean she'd have to fly to Scottsdale straight after Dubai which would be a pain.

Both Dubai and Scottsdale are Tier II events, and since she's already in the Gulf region, she may as well play Dubai instead.

Steveg
Dec 14th, 2002, 06:16 PM
Yes but if she plays in Memphis, she'll be closer and less tired. Besides if not mistaken Janet played in Memphis las year. So that both can practice doubles for the main doubles events. She will have to leave the region anyway. If she leaves earlier, the better to be fresh and ready for the US tour.

Playing Dubai won't make any difference in "tiredness" as there is 1 week before Indian Wells. She won't be in any disadvantage with other players either, as a large number of them would also have played the Gulf events, as there have been in the past.

Let's not also forget that she was supposed to play there this year, before Janet backed down at the last minute due to security concerns. She's performed well in Dubai in the past, reaching the singles final of the Challengers in 1998, and winning the doubles title there. I'm sure she has good vibes playing there. She sacrificed for Janet's sake this year, let Janet sacrifice this time.

Anyway, her schedule has already been decided. Unless she changes her mind, we will see her play a WTA event in the Gulf for the 1st time next year.

I would like to hear other people's opinions on Wynne's schedule...

I would like to hear other people's opinions on Wynne's schedule... I do not remember reading that Wynne had "sacrificied" Dubai because of Janet  .

Janet has not published her schedule yet. We will see if the tourneys in the Gulf are included.

Most players usually take a week rest after the Open Gaz de France and the Proximus Diamond Game.

Wynne in four weeks intends to travel from Australia (where she will be playing at least singles and doubles. Maybe mixed doubles) to Japan, then to India, then to the Gulf  , and play both doubles and singles most probably...

She will have had very little warm-up tournament since she starts right away with the Oz Open, while most other players start with a few warm-up tourneys first to get back to the rythme. And she'll be playing doubles + singles.

Not very good for her back and to be in shape for the two major tourneys in the US, where there are lots of points to grab, both in singles and doubles.

Yes, I remember it was around the time of the Angie-Wynne Exhibition in February when an Indonesian poster mentioned that Wynne had decided to play Memphis instead as Janet didn't want to fly to the Gulf due to security concerns.

Wynne's name was on the Doha and Dubai list right until the last moment.

King Aaron
Dec 15th, 2002, 06:06 PM
Well, Wynne must have some reasons as to why her schedule is like that. We might see it differently form her. Like danker mentioned, maybe she has good vibes about the place. Whatever the case, I hope Wynne doesn't tire herself out next year and hopefully reaches her target. :D

Steveg
Dec 16th, 2002, 05:12 AM
You are right about tiring oneself out Aaron :) . I remember that several players who were at both tourneys in the Gulf suffered from injuries. It is extremely hot there and Wynne is often subject to injuries when playing too much (it happened on a couple of occasions last year). If it is confirmed she plays both events, let's hope all will be fine for her.

Wynne has set her schedule, but we can still discuss its relevance :) according to our views.

For Luke, it was also a time when Wynne was still having back problems. She could have had decided to go on her own instead and play the two tournaments, and why not play doubles with Angelique as she has done already in the past.

She chose instead to play only one tournament and in USA.

Rising Sun
Dec 16th, 2002, 06:19 AM
Actually, Wynne played 2 US tourneys prior to Indian Wells, Memphis and Scottsdale, and played both Singles and Doubles.

So it would have made no difference to play in the Gulf instead in terms of quantity.

Please don't think that i dislike Wynne. I am frustrated because i DO like her. I think she is a very good player. She is not powerful ....her forehand can overpower some opponents though. But her game is beautiful and her on-court character even more so....
Seeing Wynne hold her own in a slug-fest against now highly ranked and increadably in-form Myskina at Aus open made me see that she has talent. Having said that she will have to work quite hard to break the 50 ...and skipping early Aus tourneys on her favourable surface will not help IMO.
I hope she prooves me wrong though. :)

- weather conditions that are much harder in the Gulf. A back injury with a hot / humid condition is something very easier to catch
- tier level
- travel (the earlier she arrives in USA, the more time she will have to be ready for the main US tier I events that are obviously the priority for these first months of the year)
- travel 2 : she will have lot of traveling to do before reaching the Gulf where extreme conditions will be awaiting her.

Some very valid points there, but that applies generally to all players competing in the Gulf.

Wynne lives and trains in Indonesia where it is already hot/humid, so wouldn't the climate at home be affecting her already?

In fact, I think that the Europeans would be more prone to suffering in the harsh conditions of the Gulf, seing that it'll still be winter in Europe.

Let's keep the valid arguments coming in. :) That would apply certainly to all players around the top 100 ranking, playing both doubles and singles, willing to travel Australia, Japan, India and the Gulf in a nick of time :p .

I hope there are not too many like that because then we will have loads of injuries.

My point is that Wynne is not giving her many chances to be in shape for the two major tier I events where there are loads of points to grab both in singles and doubles.

Coming from Indonesia, she should have an advantage as far as the weather is concerned, but with her physics, her apparent difficulties to recover quickly from strenuous matches and her recurrent back injuries, I am not certain she has an advantage to play these two tournaments.

Luke point is however that is it closer to Indonesian weather than to the European one.

As mentioned below, I am not certain however that this will give Wynne an advantage.

Yes Aaron, I'm not doubting the climatic harshness of the Gulf, but contrasting it to that of Europe at the time. ;)

Very good points as usual. :)

Would anyone else like to comment?

On another note, I think Angie is going to be playing the same tourneys. It would be interesting to see how she copes with it, in comparison to Wynne. :)

Angie is fitter than Wynne. Besides, her ranking could allow her to avoid playing some qualies in some tournaments (I have not checked that out yet).

I am not certain besides that Angie is as concerned as Wynne in doubles.

Yes, we should give Wynne the benefit of the doubt in this case. She's an adult and has been playing on the tour for a few years already. She should know how to schedule properly and know herself physically and emotionally by now. :)

This is what happened to her last year when she wanted to commit in for the Proximus Diamond Game.

But it is ok because she's been there before and she knows what to expect ;) .

Anyway, all the best to Wynne for 2003. I am certain that she is learning from her past experiences :) .

HAI TEMAN2, PA KABAR NIH...

Gimana kabar nya semua?

OK... GBU ALL... As we all know, both Indonesians get tough draw...Wynne by not having any warm-up tourney, I am sure she is fresh compare to Patty...but is she going to be hot already? I doubt it...At least, she can give fierce fight I am okay...Go, WP!:D :wavey:

The rest of Asians:

Tammy has easy draw until 3rd R... :wavey:

Y J Cho has the easiest one...Eva Dyrberg is in no match vs Cho...She is gonna retired anyway...Then, I am sure she can beat Maleeva...Anyone like Elena Bovina, Vera Zvonareva or Rita Grande...I do not count Aniko Kapros...Cho can beat them all! And she will face Monica again and she can make damage to Monica again!!! Goooooo...Cho! Man...no thread for her? :D :wavey:

Akiko...it depends who is gonna be her opponent from qualifier...I think, she can win then she will face currently "hot" Panova!:) :wavey:

Shinobu...if Saori coud beat Vivi Pascual last week...definitely Asagoe can do the same...but it will fierce to play vs Husarova...:) :wavey:

I think that Wynne posted her match analysis in her website :
LANGKAH WYNNE TERGANJAL
13 Januari 2003

Can someone give a hint? Thanks :) .

King Aaron
Jan 13th, 2003, 02:21 PM
okay here's a hint

"I admit I lost to Patty because of the different standards we're at but it does not mean I did not try."

At least Wynne gave a fight in the first set. Chasing every ball down, Wynne managed to lead 3-2. Unfortunately, she lost her rhythm then.

"For sure this is a lesson to learn."

The loss is hard to take. This is because Wynne had concentarted fully on the Australian Open. Because of that, Wynne decided not to play any warm-up tournaments with the hope of focusing on Melbourne.

That's all I can translate. The rest are not that important because it doesn't say anything about the match.

Steveg
Jan 13th, 2003, 03:45 PM

Sorry for the late reply, Adji... I got home late last night and didn't had a chance to surf the net.

I was there when Wynne played her first round match. They played great, especially Janet, she served well and vollied well. Wynne was not bad as well, her serve is improving and her forehand is a bit harder now :) Iva and Maggie played poor tennis in the first set, and tried to come back in the second set. They played quite well in the second, and fortunately wynne could hold her serve at the end :)

After the match, I did chat with her a bit and she gave me a free ticket for Thursday :) If you want more detail, just go to the non-tennis section on "Ask us Asian anything" thread :) I wrote some details there :)

Today I didn't go, as I had to go back to work. Unfortunately, Wynne/Janet lost  And tomorrow I am not going as well, hopefully Wynne can win her mixed double match :)

Her current prize money at the Oz Open is therefore :

Singles (R1) : USD 9.950
Doubles (R2) : USD 4,700
Mixed Doubles (QF) : USD 4,200

Wynne Prakusya will most probably not be playing the doubles season-ending Championships :

Tour announces format change for season-ending Championships (http://www.wtatour.com/index.cfm?section=main&cont_id=161955) [...] The doubles draw of the Championships will go from an eight-team single elimination format to a four-team single elimination event with the winning team sharing $250,000. [...] Nathalie Tauziat was complaining that the WTA was more and more arranging business for a minority of tennis players.

The way :

- ranking points are allocated in ITF events
- ITF prize money is no more taken into account for WTA membership
- the new season-ending Championships is arranged

It is obviously the case  . It is time that the vast majority of the players, who are the WTA (and not only some 10 players) take things back into their hands :( .

I understand Tauziat...BTW, hasn't she retired? Is she married? I know this week she plays double with Fusai in Paris...So, she is returning then...

For Wynne, never give up! Take this format change as a big challenge! It is very tough...be in mission impossible, Wynne!!!:( :D  :)

Wynne...another bad lost! 3 sets match against Nagy and she was gone in 2nd round qualif! Now 1-4, Wynne! Not so good...your ranking will get lower and lower...OK, it is time to regroup yourself and big time evaluation! You just lost big opportunity to be in MD! So many things to learn, Wynne...OK, now...just focus on your dubs since you have dangerous pair to play...Nastya and Dinara...they are tough! So, good luck in ur match with Janet! Bring back your mental toughness when you played mixed dubs! Come on, Wynne! U can do it!:( :wavey:

Wynne needs to rest and think about what she's doing. Has she put in enough effort to seriously challenge the singles players? Does she want to be a doubles specialist?

By the way, Wynne/Janet won their first round in Dubai

Wynne needs to shape her game i think! it's been a really bad singles record this year. she lost all her matches except 1 qualifying round, i'm starting to worry about her.

What she needs to do to compete against other players in the tour?? does she needs a better coach? does she needs to bulk up a bit? or what? what are your thoughts??

From what I remember hearing Tammy say, I think Wynne is having a bit of a complex right now because for a long time, everyone in Indonesia regarded her as the heir apparent to Yayuk Basuki, but she has been far surpassed by Angie. Angie also gets a lot of attention off the court (sponsorships, commercials, etc.).

Wynne is tough, though. She has a good relationship with her coach Susanna, and I think she is a hard worker. I know her luck will have to change soon. Go, Wynne!!!!!!!

Could someone be kind enough to translate the part about Vietnam and SARS :) ? And about a $25,000 tournament taking place in Hanoi  .

Thanks :D .

TAKUT SARS, WYNNE URUNG KE VIETNAM
11 April 2003

Steve,
Mainly the article said that Wynne changed her plan to play in ITF $25,000 in Hanoi, Vietnam, because of the SARS issue. I think she tried to limit her travelling due to SARS virus in Asia. Wynne said that she actually really want to play in Vietnam to gain as many points as she could and to maintain or improve her ranking.

Also she is now not playing in Arab, because the tournament has been postponed due to the war. Now wynne is in Indonesia to prepare for Fed Cup in Tokyo, and then after Fed Cup she will go back to Indonesia for a few days before heading to Berlin, Rome, and France for Roland Garros. She hope that everything (her plan) will be fine and she can achieve her target this year.

Wynne also told her fans that she is currently giving away her photo collections. For those who want it, just give their full addresses via her website.

You know our media here, Steve. They always present the wrong info :o However, I understand her decision not to travel to Vietnam even though not too many SARS cases in there so far comparing with Hong Kong, China, and Singapore. She just doesn't want to take the risk. As for myself, I also canceled my airline ticket going back to Indonesia early this month (and it costs me about A$300 for nothing  ), even though there was no SARS case in Indonesia at that time. Just a little bit careful and consideration :o
