First of all, I read on here and on her website that she wasn't playing this tournament??

Lucie is in the draw this week and it is a great tournament for her to be playing TBH. I can actually have expectations this week because 1. she's won this tournament in the past and 2. She had 2 good wins last week. Not only that but she got a very good draw.

1r: Amanmuradova - 19-20 record this year, best on clay, and not in form.
2r: Erakovic - Grass specialist, on a 4 match losing streak and less likely Jackson, who is fresh off of injury.

If she gets to the SF then its likely Benesova and the finals would probably be Dushevina, Parmentier, or Bacsinszky. Not the toughest road to a title. But now I am looking way ahead of myself.

Most importantly, good luck. :bigclap:

Good Luck Lucie.

Good to see that she will have a tournament in the US prior to US Open.

Let's not look past round 1.

Lucie vs. Agkul is the last match today.

Based on what's happening so far, we'll probably find out who won a week from next Tuesday. :help:

Lucie won Forrest Hills in 2005, so this could be a very nice tournament for her. :)

Lucie def. Amanmuradova 6-7(11) 6-3 6-3

Step 1, complete. She has 30 points points now, but 50 points would be nicer. Its almost better that she's winning a few close matches cause thats really whats gonna help her get her confidence back. I'm excited about the rest of the tourney. Onward, Lucie.

Quarterfinals: Jackson - just came back from injury, really unknown how she's gonna play.

Jackson beat Erakovic who is in bad form in 2 tight sets. As usual with Lucie 2008 its a hard match to call but I'm feeling pretty confident. Good luck, Lucie. :yeah:

Lucie Safarova def. Jamea Jackson 3-6 6-3 6-0

:bounce: Good job Lucie! I'm almost ready to say she's out of her slump, and I didn't think I would be saying that this year. Now she has 50 points, looking to make it 80 points. Next Up!

SF: Benesova - Pretty good form so Lucie is not the favorite here.

If she wins this match I'm ready to say she's officially out of her slump. Good luck! :yeah:

Great news to come home too. :hearts:

I don't think she is out of her slump, nor will I think so if she beats Benesova tomorrow (which I find highly unlikely). Still it has been nice to have back-to-back events where she was won two matches in a row. This is a very promising sign.

Lucie def. Benesova 6-2 6-4!!

I knew this would be her (re)breakthrough tourney. From what I've read from people who went to Forest Hills she's apparently playing amazing. Now she has 80 points, looking to make it 115.

Finals(!!!): Peng Shuai - Very much in form, but an off and on player.

Shuai is actually in my top ten favorites. I have good feelings about the match though, I think Lucie can do it.

PS - I doubt you guys care but these last two weeks have been amazing for me. Lena winning, Na getting 4th place, Lucie winning 5 matches, it's all too good. I can only dream of what will happen at the USO. :sobbing:

YES YES YES YES YES :sobbing: :bigcry:

I have waited for this result all year and finally it has arrived. I really don't care who wins the final because I love each of them but just a big :bigclap: for Lucie for not giving up and continuing to fight. So nice to see.

How is she playing, exactly?

I can't find it now but I remember reading a post from early in the week that said Lucie was practicing well enough to win the tournament. She must be playing decent at least, which is a big step up from earlier this year.

Lucie def. Peng 6-4 6-2 :inlove:

There's no way I would have ever guessed she'd win a tourney this year. Still don't think she's in form iPatty? ;)

I predict QF at the Open :p

She'll be #56 I think in the world next week.

I predict QF at the Open :p

Fifth Avocado, I like that prediction -- especially since your avatar and the fact that you started this thread both mean you are currently a good luck charm!

Seriously, I know Sveta in the second round is a scary (though also unpredictable) proposition, but we may as well be optimistic now after so many bad months. Lucie's given her fans a reason. Should they meet in the second round, I'd be very surprised if Sveta beat Lucie as resoundingly as she did earlier this year.

Plus, I'm not saying she's anywhere near that form, but Lucie did beat Sveta once. ;)

Anyway, whoo-hoo :bounce: to Lucie and all her fans.

I am thrilled she won this title, believe me. I am still not 100% about her being "back" but hopefully those feelings will be gone after US Open. She has a tough draw but if she plays confidently it is do-able.

Well done Lucka. :worship:

Well done to us, her fans, for staying loyal. We have finally been rewarded.

I'm thrilled. Really, really happy about this!!! :D :D

HOWEVER, I am not betting anything on the US Open. Although Lucie has started to win these past two weeks, let's remember this isn't beating Justine in straight sets wins here, this is Peng Shuai and Jamea Jackson.

Still, this is excellent. She now has more titles than Kuznetsova this year, so who knows... ;)

First, we still have Cirstea, though. I'm not thinking too far ahead here.

Any pictures???

No fucking way.
This title may be big for her confidence wise.

This is what Lucie had to say about Forest Hills:

"In terms of nervousness, the toughest match of the week was against Benesova in the semifinals; it's always difficult to play someone from your own country," Safarova said. "In terms of the tennis, today's match with Peng was my best match. I just tried to concentrate from the very first ball. I knew I had to serve well and I did that in both sets. I was also trying to control the points when I could, because when she's aggressive and in control she's very tough to play."

"I really enjoy it here; it's a very calm place and I have great memories from my first title here," Safarova said. "I was injured at the beginning of the year and haven't had my best results, but this week has helped me regain my confidence in time for the US Open. I'll celebrate this win and just look forward to New York."
